  1. EA was just on, said we do not have the dough to make the free agent splashes we made last year, but said that the team would be active. Followed up afterwards by Jim Mora saying the Giants are in VERY GOOD shape, said they have a good young offense, that ELI will be better and better and that the defense needs some tweaking and he expects them to do as well in 06.
  2. he looks like he could be a nice change of pace back and a good special teamer. His thighs are tremendous and his explosion out of the gate in the 40 was good. Not impressed with Lendale White. He looked a tad fat at his weigh in. My personal fave is FB Matt Bernstein of Wisconssin.
  3. I would watch this over the Olympics, NBA, MLB anyday. They have the linemen on now with the RB's up next. I highly suggest catching some of it.
  4. You guys do realize that the Giants were one of the 9 teams that DO NOT WANT to have increased shared revenue. The Jets, Giants, Eagles, Skins, Boys, Pats, Broncos, Texans and Panthers were the holdovers. Something tells me if the Giants are amongst those teams that want to keep revenue the way it is shared there is a surplus of cash that would help us compete greatly. As far as the idea the Mara's(comical because the Tischs own 50% too )would not have enough coin to compete, keep in mind that the Mara family bought this franchise for 500 bucks and owns 1/2 that is estimated at close to 800 million bucks now. Something tells me that the Maras would have no problem getting funds with that type of equity. Keep in mind the future stadium deals. Just a side note, you folks do realize how filthy stinking rich the Tisch family is right? Put it this way, they DONATE more money to charitable and non profit organizations on a yearly basis than most of us will EVER see in a year.
  5. You actually need 1 LB who can bring it on the blitz(case in point LT) and one LB who can play the pass and make all the tackles needed(case in point LT) The safety spot is not as much of a huge thing as you say, we won a SB with Terry Kinard and Kenny Hill at S and Greg Jackson and Myron Guyton. Size does not matter as well, George Martin tipped the scales at barely 250 if he was lucky and played 3/4 DE as well as there was. In a 3/4 the most crucial element is having a NT that can play 2 gap, not necessarily be great like you like you say but play the 2 gap and clog up space and MOST importantly you MUST have linebackers that can tackle and make plays.
  6. No problem at all, in fact I welcome the debate as long as people like you and I debate and do not throw insults based on opinions. I have said for a long time we have drafted 4/3 personnel and this idea of a 3/4 defense is silly. I do like the "looks" and "disguises" that the DC employs from time to time, but this is a 4/3team from the d line on down. I am not sure other than Clancy if there is a 2 gap DT on the roster that could play that NT and I am not certain if any of our DE's(maybe RObbins)would be effective 3/4 DE's. Strahan is so good I suspect he would be great in any scheme, but after 13 seasons(12 as a 4/3 DE 93 was still 3/4 in LT last year)I would suspect it would be silly to mess with success. That last drive against Minny killed me and was an example of the coaching staff getting too cute. It was almost as if they were surprised the defensive gameplan worked so well and wanted to change things.
  7. hence why i said "looks" and not a traditional 3/4 defense and used a word like "disguised" I am quite aware of what a 4/3 defense and a 3/4 defense entails. OUR d coordinator has gone on record(when he is allowed to speak in AUG)as saying that he "disguises" his 3/4 looks. I was merely pointing out elements and an instance where he tried to disguise that look with our current personnel.
  8. Griesen and either Green and Or Emmons will not be back. My money is on Emmons as his age and salary cap savings will dictate his release. In that event as of now its Torbor, Pierce, Green. My guess is the Giants sign a guy like Ben Leber(credit to Money) or some other middle of the road LB, who can be versatile at the Will and Mike spot. They then draft a LB and bring back Blackburn as well. In that scenario you would have Green, Pierce, Leber, Torbor, rookie, Blackburn. I do not think Julian Peterson is a possibility unless he structures a deal that is cap friendly for 06, and with NO CBA in place thats a hard thing to ask a guy to do. I am not sure I want Peterson anyway coming off the injury he had and the lesser of a year he had in 05 due to that fact. With a draft as deep at LB as this one is we can get some needed LB help for the future and plug in some spots through FA as needed.
  9. Umm we know that, but the pass INT was not called, thus it is a moot point. Mike Preira of course 2das ys later said we are sorry and the refs fucked up.
  10. I think the bottom line is that the players make the defense. There were times this year when Tim Lewis disguised a 3/4 look with OSI dropping into coverages. Zone blitzes and the like. One time in particular when I remember this used was the last minute drive by Minnesota(only time all game they really moved the ball on us). Lewis disguised his 3/4 looks, but there were some elements of it at times this year. We have too much 4/3 personnel with the 2 De's and Tuck and to a lesser extent Moore, but we can expect to see looks.
  11. Why I do believe that Suebert MAY have had a better chance than most O linemen is because if I am not mistaken he was recruited to Western Illinois as a Te and may have actually played TE for a year or so there. Bottom line was IT was PASS INT and no matter whether it was Amani Toomer or Keith Hamilton the Pass INT should have been called.
  12. this is a fucking joke. Cablevision is still paying 2 coaches(Wilkins, Chaney) have a payrollo that could support some third world countries and there is no end in sight. Do not worry NY sports fans, Cablevision promises to raise their rates, not offer NY Sports Net to their customers, so screw you Met fans and instead of baseball on a nightly basis this summer, they will show NY Knick Way of Life! Man what a company
  13. I heard when Isiah called to finalize the trade he told teh Magic secretary she had a nice ass.
  14. Marbury, Crawford, Francis Larry Brown will quit this mess asap
  15. according to published reports Steve Francis is a Knick for Penny and Ariza what a fucking mess. The Knicks are gonna play a team of 5 small gaurds that all love to shoot
  16. agreed, its hard enough for a rookie O linemen to learn the terminology, tendencies of players, footwork etc on one side of the line, to expect a rookie to learn both sides would be a lot to ask. Whitfield knows the offense(year #2)he is proficient at both tackle spots and he is a good veteran presence, one who says the right things and keeps guys loose. He is a much better option than a rookie in that backup spot.
  17. great read Money and I agree on most points. A few posts back you commented that our LB situation is not as bad as it seems and I agree, but I must think of one thing. As an avid listener of Sirrius' NFL morning show with Carl Banks I cannot ignore a theory that Carl speaks of when he says that you do not want to have too much overhaul among a LB position as it causes upheavel to the entire defense, in terms of reads and how guys react. I do agree that either Green and or Emmons must go. Griesen wants to be a starting MLB, so I expect him to be gone. I love the idea of Leber and also feel that Torbor is getting better and better and very well could be Emmons future replacement. As far as the secondary, I think the Giants will re-sign Allen, after reading yesterdays NYPOST its clear that the Giants want him back and Clements will bloat the market.
  18. Each year my buddies and I attend a road game, this year was tough with all the west coast games and a Xmas eve game. a few years back it was Baltimore, done a few Philly trips, Washington one and an Indy one in 02? Where should we go? Philly? Washington? Dallas? Seattle? Carolina? New Orleans? Jacksonville? Tennesee?
  19. No doubt, especially when you have seen in the past some of our 3rd Wr's that have gone elsewhere and flourished. From McCaffrey, to Patten to Jurevicous. I have no problem bringing back Carter, what I would like though is a cheap, sure handed, good route running vet to challenge and possibly contribute on passing downs.
  20. My definition of a spectacular catch and your definition are clearly different. Amani Toomer's grab against the Chiefs and his TD against the Hawks IMO were spectacular grabs. Ditto the one hand grab by plax against the Niners. When a ball hits your hands that you do not have to extend for(as Currency points out as he re-watched the play today)there is nothing spectacular about it.
  21. I know and I felt that it was his chest that created the drop. Perfect pass and you will not get many better.
  22. I cannot see him getting big money elsewhere and his speed is one of those things you are just afraid to get rid of.
  23. dude I was there live, he did not dive he dropped a catchable ball right in his bread basket. He also dropped a ball put right on his hands in the flat on a 3rd and 4 with about 25 yards of room in front of him. That pass he dropped was a play designed for him, Aaron Glenn has just come into the game and the Giants tried to take advantage of Carters speed, he got behind Glenn, the ball was thrown so only Carter could get it and falling down he dropped the pass, it hit him in the chest. Had it been off his hands maybe saying he dove for it was true, but that ball hit his numbers and initially many in attendance thought he had it.
