    Why would Lawrence miss time?

Although I do agree with most here, it's probably a six or seven win season at best.

Because he plays for the Giants. If we have one NFL-caliber starter in a unit that starter immediately gets hurt and that unit plays at a high-school level. WR, RB, OL... every year it's some unit.

This year it's the DL's turn. We have one NFL caliber player there (unless you count Burns and Thibs as d-line).

Honorable mention to corner that likewise has one NFL caliber player on the roster.

So we'll start the season 2-0, then end up 2-5 or 3-4 by week 7, then likely two more wins before the bye. My vote is we're an 8 or 9 win team.

Wow man you're generous. I'm thinking Dexter Lawrence and Tae Banks miss 8 games apiece and we're trotting out a defense of 7th round draft picks and free agents by midseason.

Also, we're having an honest conversation about whether or not Drew Lock should be our starter.

Offensive Line has gone from historically bad to maybe just bad if we're lucky, but we still don't have a starting Guard on the team (Runyan is not good) and may not have an NFL caliber center on the roster.

Way too many ifs with these guys.

    6 wins max, probably less.

Eli was fun doofy, Jones is creepy doofy.

Yeah not sure why Getty thought it was a good idea to draft a crosseyed quarterback.

Agreed, and then we have Dallas at home on Thursday, which is a pretty good draw, home on Thursday is an advantage.

Dude, on a Thursday night all of the Meadowlands Geezers will be selling their tickets.  That stadium is going to be 75% Cowboys fans.

Jeez CD, do you even Giants Fan?

Man, brats and eggs sounds fucking delicious.

I’d make Indy a no.  Richardson looked alright before he got hurt + missing a lot of the season basically buys him an extra year even if he blows in 2024

Oh shit I forgot Richardson was on their team. Another one off the list.

The Seahawks may be in the market for a QB is Lock sucks this year.

Cowboys might be looking for a QB as well if they dont tag Dak.

Lock is our backup this year. Maybe our starter. Dak will be a Cowboy for life, he's the new Tony Romo.

Just hope we don’t end up with Shaduer Sanders. That twitter bullying was low and he’s going to not be a popular locker room leader at the next level.

Yeah I want nothing to do with that guy. His old man is still an asshole too and I don't want him sniffing around the team.

Did I miss Dallas giving Dak an extension?  You could easily make them a yes.

And until we know more about next year's class, we really dont know.  If it is anything like the class when Jones came out, we will be lucky to find 2 with a 1st round grade, let alone 4.

Same for Steelers who have two guys signed to 1 year deals last I checked.

I thought they had Fields for 2 more years.

Also, the 2020 NFL draft was generally considered to be pretty weak the year ahead of time, but we got Burrow, Herbert, Tua, and Love outta that group. You just never know.

  8. Of course, we're all hoping Jones does well this year. Of course, we all suspect he's won't.

However, I heard a great argument this week for hope moving forward. If you look around the league, most teams don't need a QB right now, either having a good starter or a young player with potential already in the roster (especially since 6 were drafted in the 1st round this year).

Having a look, I'd say it shapes up like this:

    Arizona Cardinals - no
    Atlanta Falcons- no
    Baltimore Ravens - no
    Buffalo Bills- no
Carolina Panthers - no (unless Bryce REALLY sucks again)
    Chicago Bears- no
    Cincinnati Bengals - no
    Cleveland Browns- no
    Dallas Cowboys- no
    Denver Broncos- no
    Detroit Lions- no
    Green Bay Packers- no
    Houston Texans- no
    Indianapolis Colts- yes
    Jacksonville Jaguars- no
    Kansas City Chiefs- no
    Las Vegas Raiders - yes
    Los Angeles Chargers - no
    Los Angeles Rams - yes
    Miami Dolphins - no
    Minnesota Vikings - no
    New England Patriots - no
    New Orleans Saints -likely
    New York Giants - yes
    New York Jets -likely
    Philadelphia Eagles - no
    Pittsburgh Steelers - unlikely
    San Francisco 49ers - no
    Seattle Seahawks- no
    Tampa Bay Buccaneers- no
    Tennessee Titans- no
    Washington Commanders- no

So really, assuming there's 3 qbs worth a first-round grade, we really online have to worry about outbidding 3-4 of them to land a guy we like, and we'll still have Malik Nabers. That ain't bad.

Judge never ever was Head Coach material - it overwhelmed him and in Shurmur's case - i think he lost the locker room and that was why he was let go.

I remember watching an interview with Shurmur when Minny was in the playoffs. He was averse to eye contact, and had awful body language (lots of shrugs, looking at the ground, etc). Dude's just not a natural leader.

The reports were that Tisch was heavily involved in the firing of Judge.  So he’s not hands off.

    22 hours ago, TaylorBanksCarsonVanPelt said:

That was a smart move.  Get involved when it is necessary.  Hands off on most football decisions.  He wants to have a winning team... not another business to oversee.  All of these people are the third generation anyway... Mara is not the first or second generation Mara and Tisch is the second generation son of Tisch.  The Giants will improve and coaches, players, GM's and even owners are with a team for a time and that is not forever.  They change and evolve... sometimes it is worse and sometimes it is better.

Before the Judge meltdown he was probably going to get at least another year.  There would have been things to point to that were actually positive for him:

    1. His offense was awful, but Mara hand picked Jason Garrett.  Judge had his coaches for defense and special teams and they were both decent. The real Achilles heel was the guy Mara picked.

    2.  His practices were run like well-oiled machines, and despite the "run another lap" nature of them, free agents wanted to come here and play.

    3.  When he saw a problem he wasted no time addressing it, like when he fired Columbo and took over O-line duties.  It was never a great line but it did improve a bit afterwards.

Not saying it was wrong to get rid of him, but aside from the weird "this isn't a clown show" rant and the victory formation in your own red zone, there was a case to be made. Those two things did happen though and dude had to go.  He was in over his head at that point.

Thanks and glad you enjoyed it Chuck.  I'm good for one of those about every six months.

What worries you guys about this roster post draft? Obviously QB is going to be interesting to say the least, but for me it's a) Secondary still seems thin, even with adding a 2nd and 3rd rounder, and b) Much lesser extent but still on my mind is DT.

OL is another one people might say, though we added 4-5 bodies in the offseason, on top of Thomas, Neal, JMS, plus McKethan and Ezeudu in the mix.

There is no left guard on the roster. Like... he's not there. That's #1 to me. #2 is there aren't two starting corners. QB too but we're going to be fucked for a long time at that spot. I get that players want to win but we really fucked the franchise when Devito won those 3 games.

  13. Whelp, it’s once again time to see who we should have drafted instead of who Joe Schmoe drafted.  Now full disclosure: I barely had any time to research prospects this year, so I’m coming into this a little wobbly.  However, I’m 8-2 so far lifetime against Joe Schmoe, so I’m pretty sure that even on a bad day I can still probably get more right than him.   Let’s find out.

Round One: Pick No. 6: Malik Nabers, WR, LSU
Seph’s Pick:  Malik Nabers, WR, LSU

Jesus famously said, “Love your Nabers, he’s a dawg.” and I’m taking the Good Lord’s  advice here.  There will be lots of Hail Marys in our future. Dude has the ability to turn around an entire offense assuming he 1. stays healthy, and 2. doesn’t self-destruct.  I’m not positive either of those things won’t happen but I’m taking the shot on his talent here.

Round Two: Pick No. 47 (from SEA): Tyler Nubin, S, Minnesota
Seph’s Pick: Tyler Nubin, S, Minnesota

I’m happy with this pick… but man, how nice would Cooper DeJean have looked in blue?  If Brian Burns doesn’t suddenly become an All-Pro edge I think it’s really time to start petitioning the Maras for me to take that GM job.  But yeah, anyway, Nubin is a nice pick and we really needed another safety.  He should improve our turnover ratio by the second half of his sophomore season.  DeJean is a lock to be a Hall of Fame player because the Eagles took him.  I don't think Brian Burns ends up in the Hall of Fame.

Round Three: Pick No. 70: Andru Phillips, CB, Kentucky
Seph’s Pick:  Coober Beebe, G, Kansas State

So let me get this straight… Phillips allowed a 106 passer rating against him last year, had a 20% missed tackle rate, and had zero interceptions.  What am I missing here? Those are all bad… plus he plays nickel, which we already have 3 players there.   Meanwhile, I didn’t love Beebe in the 2nd due to his lack of lateral movement but would be more than happy to take a shot at him here; he’s big, strong, tough, and mean.  Whelp, we’d better hope he sucks because now he’s playing in Dallas. Oh yeah, there’s also literally no starting LG on the roster right now.  Did our line suck last year?  Did it suck historically? I forget.

Round Four: Pick No. 107: Theo Johnson, TE, Penn State
Seph’s Pick: Theo Johnson, TE, Penn State

The JPP of tight ends.  I likeded it.

Round Five: Pick No. 166 (from SF through CAR): Tyrone Tracy Jr., RB, Purdue
Seph’s Pick: Michael Pratt, QB, Tulane

Tracy is arguably the better pick here, but we only have Lock for one season and then we’ll be looking at having Tommy DeVito as our QB again (in this scenario, Jones is hurt because in every scenario in his career so far Jones is hurt). I think Pratt brings some real tools to the table and I’d love to see what he could do with Daboll coaching him up. I think he could be a top-notch backup with eventual (like 3 years from now) mid-level/hold the fort starter potential.  Probably a bit of a reach but it’s better than the 3rd round reach we took at corner.

Yeah… Tracy is probably going to be really good and Pratt will probably not be but I’ll take that chance anyway.  We're in so much fucking trouble at QB.

Round Six Pick No. 183: Darius Muasau, LB, UCLA
Seph’s Pick: Christian Mahogany, OG, Boston College

Muasau seems like a fine linebacker for a sixth-rounder, and what he lacks in speed he makes up for with instincts and power.  However, I really think Mahogany has a chance to develop into a very good guard with some NFL-level coaching.  His power is already evident, and his feet are decent for a man his size. Let Rich Mahogany take his leather-bound books and compete with Beebe for the LG spot and be happy at whoever ends up as the backup.  Also, not sure if you all were aware or not, but our line graded out as the second-worst line in NFL history, because it sucks.  I don’t think Austin Stinnie fixes that.

Yes if 2/6 of these draft picks end up as starters, that's an average draft. 3 starters and you have a very successful draft.

Bonus points if another 2 are solid backups and special team contributors.

60% of the Chiefs' roster this year were players they had drafted.

In not saying that this is your post... but there's this weird idea making the rounds that you only need to get 2-3 decent players out of each draft to be successful. Losers like the Giants might be happy with those results, but teams with sustained success usually have at least half of their team having been draft picks of the team.

  15. 1 hour ago, Mr. P said:

Yeah going full drafts without trenches is the stuff we mocked Reese for.

I was disappointed by this as well. I really was hoping we'd nab Christian Mahogany in the 6th. Andrew Thomas missed eight weeks with an injury last season and we only scored over 20 points once in that span (Cardinals). If Thomas misses significant time again we can't just not have an offense.

Otherwise though, I'm happy with the overall draft philosophy; take talented players who fell instead of reaching for guys 2-3 rounds early. Except for the linebacker and maybe the corner I expect all these guys to be decent-to-good players.
