Mitch Petirus? I can't recall his last name, set the record for most reps by an Olineman.

Thought "How could you fuck up drafting a really strong guard?"

    Well we did.

In terms of high round picks I thought Aaron Ross was going to a better DB then he was, but he never really lived up to it, was alright but nothing you would want a first round players to be.

Kenny Phillips was another guy I thought would be the next Sean Taylor of the NFL, but once again played better then say Ross but never really did much.

Steve Smith was a WR who I thought was going to be the next "#2 WR" guy talked about in the NFL and I was pounding the table for the Giants to draft him, but injuries got the best of him.

Also thought that TE Travis Beckam? Was going to be a weapon gadget player, turns out he just sucked and Gilly had the imagination of a rock to use him.

I liked Petrus too, he filled in for Seubert for two games his rookie year and looked great. Then there were like 4 offseason stories about his new.band touring the putting out an album and I knew we were in trouble.

Another thing about the Giants drafts of the last few years. Any Giants CB taken in rounds 5 or later, the beat writers really really pump up as if they're the next freaking Darell Revis or something.

    I remember major hype around:

    Tre Hawkins

    Rodarius Williams

    Corey Ballentine

Not to mention Sam fucking Beal. Ohhh man the writers really hyped the shit out of that guy.

I remember watching college film on Rodarius Williams and saying, "boy, he sucks." Then the coaching staff was raving about him and I said "nope, he sucks." He started 2-3 games and clearly sucked, but the beat writers and coaches insisted he played well... I was like, "am I going insane? This guy fucking sucks."

Turns out I was correct, he sucks.

  2. I'm in the "Trade up for Maye" camp too.

If we stay at 6, it'd be a fucking miracle if Maye landed there anyway. I'd alo take Nabers or Odunze there. MHJ of course if He's available.  I'll be moderately pissed if we take JJ McCarthy.

I'd also love a trade down with Minnesota and grab best remaining players at those spots. As others have said, Odunze, Olu, Latham, Bowers, etc all could still be there.

    Gonna be a fun night.

Big 10 RB's never work out for us. Granted Barkley put up nice stats, but was the wrong pick at the wrong time for us.

I remember watching one of his games where the line opened up a hole you could drive a truck through and Dayne had like a 50 yard run where a LB caught him from behind. I said to my dad, "sure hope we don't draft that guy."

Quite naturally, we drafted that guy.

  4. For me it was Will Hernandez and Deandre Baker. I also thought Dex Lawrence was a one-dimensional run stuffer. Tree will tell you that I also bought the hype on every mediocre day two WR pick for about a ten-year span.

I still think Neal will be a good guard, and could still be a good RT.

Funny though... all the pundits are out on Neal after two years but are sure Brian Burns is still going to develop into a top-5 edge player even though he hasn't been close to that in five years. I think by year 3 you more or less are what you are. Not trying to pick scabs or start an argument, it's just interesting to note the consensus opinion.

  5. For me, its J.J. McCarthy.  Looks like just an average, everyday QB to me.

For instance, here's J.J's highlight reel, and the highlight reel for Michael Pratt, expected to be taken in the 5th round or so.  Is there that much difference between their tape?  JJ has less velocity and arm strength but does run a more pro-style offense.

    Mc Carthy:

    Michael Pratt:

Also not seeing the Roger Rosengarten love (players named Roger always suck) or Graham Barton.

My QB rankings (first round guys)

Penix - he’s the best talent in the draft.  Injury concerns but he is the total package pocket passer qb

Williams - not so much because I have a lot of knowledge about him, I didn’t watch much. Probably giving in to popular opinion a little.

Daniels - immense talent throwing and running.  Hits deep balls like nobody else.

Nix - lots of starting experience, lots of success and consistency. Not the highest ceiling, but one of the highest floors.

McCarthy - has talent. Some guys succeed or fail based on the offense they are in. I think he did exactly what was asked but has potential for more.

Maye - just gut feeling. Again didn’t watch much and probably just the school he plays for impacting my gut.

    My list is this:

Williams - I think he's the real deal but "it's the Bears" also rings true.  In the right situation he can be a really special one though.  Holds the ball too long but does generally read the field well.  Those WRs sucked.

Maye - not sure what everyone else is seeing negatively but glad they're seeing it because I hope he falls to us.  He's going to need some seasoning and the NC offense isn't really an NFL offense but he's big, athletic, has a big arm, reads the field well, and made plays behind a pathetic Tarheels O-line.   I see him as a cross between Justin Herbert and Brett Favre in the pros.

Penix - I think he's the third best QB in the draft and would be a top-5 pick without the injury concerns.  But the injury concerns are huge.  Also a lefty with a weird release. Reminds me of Phillip Rivers with the weird release a little bit.

Daniels - looked awesome last year and was an unbelievable playmaker but who wouldn't look good throwing to that WR corps?  Does not read the middle of the field well at all. I think he's got real bust potential. He'll have a Michael Vick-type career.

McCarthy - looks like a completely average QB, not sure where the hype is coming from.  Seems to have an incredible work ethic and "is a winner"  just like Tim Tebow.  If he's around in the second he's worth a draft pick but this top-5 talk is absolutely insane.  He's going to need a lot of work.  I see him as a Brock Purdy type;  if he's not in the perfect NFL office he's just OK.

Nix - he looks pretty good but he's very old (only one year younger than Jones) and not a top-tier guy.  I think he can give you Matt Schaub-type production but he's not going to be a special player.

I think I'd like any of them except MCCarthy on the team, unless he somehow is still there in the 2nd or bottom of the 1st.

And it's a shame there really isn't a franchise QB to be had IMO that is going to fall into our lap.

Unless we trade for Daniels or something.

Giants FO should of just tanked the season by trading away Barkley or what not.

    But thems the breaks.

Never know though Shcoen is a fucking mad man so maybe we do go after one of the high end QBs.

Good thing we won those games against Green Bay and New England later on in the season.  I know five years from now when Caleb Williams and Drake Maye are tearing the league up I'll be saying, "yeah, but we won those two games back in '23! Who's the loser now!"

  8. With that pick I probably would have taken either Kellee Ringo or Nick Herbig.

Shakes probably would have gone with Clayton Tune.

If ANY of those guys turn out to be good players we get to curse Joe Schoen for the rest of our lives.

P would have a fucking heart attack. I think everyone else would too. No way the draft ends up that way.

I'd have no problem with Joe Alt dude is a 12 year starting tackle in the NFL.

The QB in round 2 would actually have a real Oline.

Something we haven't seen since 2009.

I'd be 100% fine with them drafting Alt.

Like we all said three months ago, the offseason priorities need to be O-line, O-line, and O-line.

Yeah, it's all head games and strategy up until the actual day. I don't think he's a head case, I just hope it's not a reverse Eli situation except this time we're stuck with a disgruntled player before we even pick him.

I'll never forget that look on Eli's face when the Chargers took him and he actually thought he was gonna have to play there.
