What QB could we afford otherwise?

A lot if we hadn't given 30 mil to an 8 sack/ year EDGE. I know there's not a lot of good QBs this offseason in FA but Drew Lock is awful... this CAN'T be the plan.

When you look closely, it's more mixed. For instance, Bobby Okerke was a great signing. Resigning Lawrence and AT to those contracts looks like a brilliant move now, considering the current cap and market expansion.

Overall I wouldn't call his record good but I wouldn't call it a disaster.

His main problem and potential downfall will be a) The QB situation, and b) failing to fix the OL.

I think this is a fair assessment.  Okereke was a good add for sure.  The other guys though, while it's good we resigned them... weren't Schoen's guys.  He's yet to add a real impact player through his drafts.

Again, small sample size, but that's bad.

  3. We've got two years of Schoen and he's arguably made more bad moves than good.

All of his linemen have been very bad (except extending Thomas). Glowinski, Evans, JMS, Isuzu, McKethan... all bad so far, and this was the ONE THING we needed fixed.  Horrible talent evaluation on his part. We have to hope some of them turn it around and you all know what I think about hope.

His mid-level FA signings last year have likewise been very bad (Parris Campbell, Jameson Crowder, Nunez-Roches, etc).  His trades have not been good (Darren Waller, Brian Burns remains to be seen... I'd argue he overpaid).  Some mid-season things have gone well (Fabian Moreau, Nick McCloud, Isiah Hodgins) and he's also pulled off some good things (Leonard Williams trade).

At this point though, can we convincingly say the roster is better than it was at the start of 2021?  I cannot say that;  in fact, I think that roster was probably slightly better.

That is a REALLY bad sign.

Schoen is obviously going to get this year and probably another, but this is far from a great start.

  4. Dan Duggan explains it here

In a nutshell, Joe Schoen guaranteed Jones 23 million in 2025 should he be injured and unable to pass a physical.  This is a guy that had a potentially career-ending neck injury, had one of four seasons where he didn't miss time with a significant injury, and is playing behind one of the worst lines the league has ever seen.  This was a HORRIBLE contract move.

I'm not quite there yet, but Joe Schoen is really losing me.  Not sure he's the guy.

lol, they really had to massage the numbers to come up with this list. Make the cutoff 7 sacks and there are some kind of scrubby guys on the list. Make the cutoff 8 sacks and Burns isn't on it.

I was thinking the same thing.  Reminds me of when we had the data manipulation unit for College Comp II.

"There is only a 8 in 2300 chance of you getting permanently ill from this product!"

"So like... a little under one in 300?  That actually sounds pretty risky."

I think Nabers is going to be the WR1 in this class. Might be the third off the board, but he'll be the best pro.

Aside from being incredibly talented, he understands the nuances of the game better than any college WR I've ever seen.  Head fakes, stutter steps, changing how he lines up... the reason why he's often 20 yards away from the nearest defender is because he's faked them out of their shoes.  He'll be an amazing pro.

Also wouldn't have a problem with Bowers at #6, but I never want him lined up the block.

The guy is Kittle without the ability to block.

    Make him a WR.

I gave had time to do a ton of work on draft prospects this year but I remember thinking he was actually a good blocker.

I guess if we take a WR at 6 he's going to be a #1 when Wandale hasn't really been given a chance yet to be the alpha WR. I'd just rather have Bowers if he's there than a WR, especially with all the WR depth in this draft. As much as all of us have been waiting for the 2nd coming of LT, we haven't had a great TE since Mark Bavaro. Ok, maybe since the Black Unicorn, but still....rather have Bowers was all I meant.

    What about Jeremy Droppy?

This time of year always gets me thinking about that 2005 offseason.  I was working nights and was constantly refreshing espn and GMB for updates.  Plax, McKenzie, AP.  Just a dream FA period that year.

That was the most exciting offseason I can remember.  Top it off with the draft that year that produced 3 All-Time Giants out of four picks.

Man that was a great off-season.

It really was.  We didn't realize how great it was until a few seasons later.

Stop. Just....stop it. You're just jealous Schoen isn't implementing your plan...AGAIN!

Burns is going to bring us all satisSACKtion this year.

You say this now, but when Schoen is on the street in two years and there's six All-Pros on my "Seph would have drafted" list, it'll be Schoen who will be jealous OF ME!!!!!!!!

4 qbs.  There are now 4 qb’s in that top tier.

Mccarthy is going ahead of Maye in some mocks now.

I've seen that too, but I attribute it to silly season... like when Malik Willis was a top-5 pick. I do think McCarthy will go in the teens though; any higher is too high for me.
