Usually roster adds this time of year tend to be bottom-feeding scrubs, but I'm really rooting for this kid. What an amazing story.

I don’t want to reach for a wr at 6.
Do you think Nabers is a reach? I keep going back and forth between him and Odunze over who I like better.
-
I don't hate this draft at all. Much better than reaching for a QB at six.
-
He was fine.

Lol
What the fuck are the Bills doing.
Dude must be a real asshole.

They're going to have a pretty much all-new WR room next year. Gabe Davis left via free agency as well.

Nothing you guys are saying change the fact that Vernon is a terrible comparison.
and again, stats don’t tell the whole story, watch him play.
I think what Shakes and I are saying is that Vernon was a "good not great" EDGE player that was paid like a top-5 player at his position. I think that's a valid comparison to Burns right now.
As far as what types of EDGE players they were I think they were certainly different. I think Vernon had less speed, but a little more power compared to Burns. I also hated how he was "the king of almost making the play." When you give that kind of money to a guy, he had better make the play, not almost make it.
I guess we'll see though.

Burns will likely never be the caliber of a Watt, Garrett, or Bosa is what I'm getting after.
6 minutes ago, BlueInCanada said:I think people just expect 30 million to come with Watt level impact of play.
Burns will never be a Watt or a Hutcheson.
However those type of guys will be resetting the pass rushing market in the next year or so and Burn's contract will just be the normal for 10+ sack type players.

which is fuckin stupid because stats don’t tell the whole story on a guys season.
And I can’t believe I have to say this more than once but here we are, Burns is nothing like Vernon. Has nobody here actually ever watched Burns play?
Here is Burns' advanced metrics over the past three years. Literally no top-10 finishes in any category.
I'm not sure what you're seeing that we're not, Pdub. He's a nice player but he's not worth top-2 money IMO. Again, if you think he is that's fine but the metrics say he's not.

He's being paid like a TJ Watt, Myles Garrett, or Nick Bosa, but has like half the production. Actually he's being paid more than them. Definitely overpaid.
If he puts up say 12 or more sacks, we'll all be shutting up. If he puts up 8-9, it'll look a bloated contract for a good not great player. This all really reminds me of Olivier Vernon, who as a player, I couldn't get upset with because he was pretty solid, but more was frustrated at the front office because he was just paid so much. Though I think Burns is a little better than Vernon.
This is exactly my take as well. We're paying for potential, not production.
-
I just don't think he's worth that kind of money +2 picks. It's fine if you guys do. On a team this bad, spending like that on a "good not great" edge who's largely one-dimensional isn't a wise investment IMO.

He put up 9 sacks and made the pro bowl the year you’re talking about.Exactly my point. That's a nice season but it's not the second best season by an EDGE player in the league in literally any season.

?? I thought the Brian Burns trade was the best of the lot. An excellent edge rusher who is versatile and very young and who might not even have hit his ceiling yet. Imagine that kind of a player with Dex and Thibs on the same line - a luxury he didnt have at Carolina.
And yeah, I dont think McCarthy is the answer either. Its going to be Nabers or MHJ in the 1st is my guess. I see a lot of mock drafts where MHJ is falling to us.
Burns arguably had a better line for at least one year when he played with Derek Brown and Hassan Reddick. He put up 8 sacks that year.
I've always thought that you draft potential, but you pay production. Burns hasn't had a season yet to warrant a contract this big.
Like you, I'd love Nabers ot MHJ at six. I'll be disappointed if we reach again for a QB.

Who’s gonna guard Penix’s blindside? Evan Neal?
Pick 23 after the trade with Minnesota of course.

If our front office loves McCarthy I’ll take him. They have my trust and I like his makeup
They do? I'm honestly still kind of on the fence about them. That first draft was awful, I felt like last year's was pretty good. I don't understand the Brian Burns trade.
From my perspective the jury is still fully out. I don't think McCarthy is the answer.

Desperation mode has set in for Minnesota and Denver. Darnold and Stidham certainly aren't the answers there.
14 hours ago, Virginia Giant said:I've been thinking he wouldn't get past Minny, couple others. I never could figure out where this 2nd round stuff was coming from.
Also read the first guys he talked to after his pro day was Daboll and Shoen. Would not rule him out at 6
If JJ McCarthy is there at 6, I think I'd be happy trading down to 11 with them, possibly grabbing Penis and having an extra first later.

I'm very mixed on Drake Maye.
Granted I haven't watched tons of film but there's a lot to like from what I've seen. He's only 21 and that NC line sucks every year. The film I have seen was very good, arguably best in this draft class.

Let's hope the Pats rumors are true and they hate Drake Maye, the true prize of the 2024 draft.

I bet he could have played first base or catcher, maybe a relief pitcher
I was thinking maybe DH, but honestly I think he's probably too big for that.

heh, well, I would too, but the thing is, pretty much all the guys in Basketball, Baseball, Tennis, or Soccer, are either more athletically gifted than the NFL guys, or they had the resources to spend countless hours developing a particular skill, or both.
The NFL is the only path to being a pro athlete for a lot of guys, whether that's due to limitations in their hand-eye coordination talent, or just whether they had the opportunity to have, for ex., golf lessons as a kid. But anyone who is sufficiently large, strong, or fast, can get a cup of coffee in the NFL.
It's true, that's one of the things I love about it.
For instance, Jason Kelce is going to end up in the Hall of Fame... name one more professional sport where he had a chance to make a roster.
-
I think he's the pick too.

Good. Looks like a fun new play that will also minimize injuries.

Im sure this won't get called in some playoff game with the game on the line.
The Giants will get hit with this 5 times this season and no other team will have one flag thrown against them.

I cannot believe there is another month of this.
The best part is that mock draft boards will change 30 times between now and then just to have the draft ultimately go the way everyone thought it would two months ago.

I had heard this about six weeks ago but hadn't heard since so I thought it was bullshit. This might push Odunze over Nabers for me if it's true.
