Giants returner Darius Reynaud ruled out for Sunday's game against the Seahawks

Maybe Darius Reynaud truly felt okay when he said Friday a hamstring strain wouldn't keep him out of Sunday's game against the Seahawks. Or perhaps he knew Will Blackmon was waiting in the wings and was hoping against hope he'd wake up Saturday and feel fine.

Whatever the case may be, Reynaud was wrong. He's been ruled out for Sunday's game.

The Giants said Reynaud won't even make the trip to Seattle with the team Saturday, meaning Blackmon will get a crack at returning kicks and punts just a little more than a week after becoming a Giant. If Blackmon has a solid performance against the Seahawks, it would be a very bad sign for Reynaud, who is averaging only 5.9 yards per punt return and 18.4 yards per kick return this season.

And with offensive lineman Kevin Boothe's time to come off the physically unable to perform list running out, the Giants could need Reynaud's roster spot in the near future.

Blackmon, who hasn't played since Week 4 last year because of a torn ACL and other leg issues, is averaging 11 yards per punt return and 21.1 yards per kick return in his career.

The only other Giants not making the trip are the ones ruled out on Friday: C Shaun O'Hara (foot), FB Madison Hedgecock (hamstring) and OL William Beatty (foot).

What I don't understand is why this guy is still even a Giant. Do they need a DB? Not that I know of. So why did they sign Blackmon if they were planning on Reynaud still getting the returns?

Bruce Johnson was placed on IR this week. Granted he was a backup at corner who wasn't seeing action other than special teams.

If Blackmon can improve our return game as well it will be an up tick.
