Plow
July 26, 2006 -- ARLINGTON - Looking to upgrade their backup catching situation the Yankees acquired Sal Fasano from the Phillies last night for an undisclosed minor leaguer, The Post has learned. Fasano had been designated for assignment by the Phillies last weekend and immediately caught the Yankees' attention because he was with them in spring training in 2004 and spent the season with Columbus (Triple-A). Fasano, 34, is expected to replace Kelly Stinnett. Stinnett hasn't hit the way the Yankees expected him to when they signed him to take John Flaherty's job this past season. Most alarming about Stinnett is that in 79 at-Bats, he fanned 29 times. He is hitting a paltry .228. * Johnny Damon missed his second straight game last night with a strained back but said he will be ready tonight. "At batting practice time it still wasn't loose but as the game went on my legs got loose and the back felt good," Damon said. "So it's a go tomorrow." * Joe Torre started Bubba Crosby (0-for-3) in center and used Melky Cabrera in the leadoff spot for the second straight game. Cabrera went 0-for-5. * Was there any doubt Derek Jeter would be in the lineup last night? Jeter, who ran and walked gingerly in Monday night's game and was removed in the ninth due to "general achiness" was at short last night. "I am fine, there is nothing to report, I am good," Jeter said before going 1-for-5 in the 7-4 victory over the Rangers. Asked about leaving the game in the ninth with the Yankees ahead, 6-2, Jeter said, "It was a big lead." * Mariano Rivera has to finish three more games this year to have his $10.5 million option to 2007 to kick in. Asked how long he wants to pitch, Rivera said, "I want to pitch in the new Yankee Stadium. Even if it's one pitch, I want to do that." The new Stadium is supposed to open April 2009. * Jorge Posada, who won't start today, needs seven more starts behind the plate for his $12 million option to kick in for next year. And since there is a $4 million player option for 2008, there is $16 million guaranteed. * Jason Giambi has talked to MLB officials about touring with a team of All Stars to Japan following the season. "If they put together a team I would like to go," Giambi said. "I like it over there." * Robinson Cano won't test his barking hamstring running the bases until the end of the week. Even if he gets into a minor league rehab game early next week, he isn't expected to be back for two more weeks. And that doesn't take into account a setback. * Octavio Dotel threw on flat ground yesterday in Tampa. It was the first time since Thursday Dotel threw. Blue Jeans
LMFAO @ SAL FASANO! He looks like a pornstar from the 60s-70s and had random groopies called "Sal's Pals" who wore his ridiculous facial hair and mullet looking thing and just kept rooting for him even though he sucked and they hardly knew who he was. njsmalls
Well Fasano might actually give Posada a whole day off, something Stinnett could not do.

LorfTVP
If he shaves off his mustache, will he still be Sal Fasano? There's no way he'll be allowed to keep it.

Ditto
He looks like the pizza guy who eats them himself. How do you get that fat playing baseball? He did OK though, laying down a bunt on a high fast ball moving in on him. He looks pretty good defensively, and gets involved with his pitchers. I don't know why Torre took him out. Cairo, #3 catcher, was already taken out of the game. If Texas ties it up, and Posada goes down, who catches?
RandolphScott
How do you get that fat playing baseball? It's pretty simple, you might get 3 or 4 plays to you (unless your a catcher or firstbase man) all you do is stand in left field, eat sunflower seeds and drink gatorade. And THEN you get to sit down.
