Eli wants the FO to draft a WR!

April 27, 2006 -- The more Eli Manning thought about it, the more he seemed to like the idea. Maybe the Giants will take a receiver with the 25th pick in Saturday's NFL Draft.

"If we can get a quality guy, maybe we take a shot at a receiver," Manning said. "It could be a possibility."

It sure could be.

The Giants are considering using their first-round pick to take a cornerback, defensive tackle, receiver or linebacker, having needs of varying degrees at each spot. They will not take a left tackle, and only would scoop up a running back if all other options are gone.

The smart money is on the Giants going with defense, but that could change if Ohio State WR Santonio Holmes is on the board.

Why a receiver? Well, after starters Plaxico Burress and Amani Toomer, there's not much in the way of proven talent. Tim Carter, a restricted free agent, was re-signed to a two-year, $2 million contract only after the Giants' attempt to sign Keyshawn Johnson failed and he instead went to the Panthers. That the Giants showed real interest in Johnson is evidence of their desire to add another target for Manning.

Carter, the speedster who has had trouble staying healthy and on the field, played in a career-high 15 games last season and had 10 catches for 186 yards. Behind him, David Tyree is perhaps the league's best special-teams player; the Giants view him as no more than a No. 4 receiver. Third-year Jamaar Taylor shows promise but has been unable to shake the injury bug.

"You'd like to have a threat at every position, especially on the offense," Manning said. "Every receiver, every running back, every tight end, everybody on the field who can possibly catch the ball or make a play you want the defense to worry about."

This is one of the weaker receiver classes in recent years but there always are a few gems to mine. Chad Jackson of Florida figures to be the first receiver selected, but there is a chance Holmes will be available when the Giants' turn comes. Coming out as a junior, Holmes made his last season with the Buckeyes his best, averaging 18.4 yards per catch and hauling in 11 touchdown passes. The Giants had to be impressed with the way he finished, dominating Notre Dame in the Fiesta Bowl with five receptions for 124 yards, including an 85-yard TD.

Holmes is not as big (5-11, 190) but he's tough - a Tom Coughlin requirement as a former receivers coach - and he's been likened to Terry Glenn in style and ability.

Why? Eli doesn't throw anywhere near his receivers - Opie should just shutup and start learning how to play QB - so far he hasn't shown much at all in the passing game. The Giants will need to win on defense to cover Eli's inabilty to pass the ball.

24 TD's - 11-5 record - NFC east Champ - multiple come from behind wins -

You want him to take a leadership role but when he does you criticize him...Once again you show you are only here to troll and add nothing to the conversation

who cares what Eli wants...

we want Ernie to draft a QB who can play at a serviceable professional level...a QB with toughness both mental and physical...not a guy who wilts and acts like a beaten step-child...

Eli shouldnt worry about who he is attempting to throw to, he should just worry about making the right choice in the pocket, and delivering the ball in a catchable area...

I'm so sorry Floyd. I just found out. It must be a terrible thing for you to go through life as the only man in the world with terminal PMS. You have my deepest sympathies. :(

Lemmiwink's, for Eli to publicly state he wants to draft a WR is not taking a leadership role.

By telling the FO what he wants and what he thinks will be good for the team he is taking a step in the right direction...

Eli can start being a leader by completing passes and not choking in big games like he did last season. Talk is cheap - once Eli starts showing it on the field he can makes requests - until then he should keep his trap shut.

Manute Bol is in for a tryout as we speak! At least Manute will show up for off season workouts.

Liar Lockfart, you claim to have been a star WR at some prestigious college you won't name and were never drafted to play anywhere other than Madden. Why don't you ask the Giants to let you try out? :LMAO:

I think Liar Lockfart is his "star WIDE receiver". That was what he claimed to be at that prestigious college he won't name. What the Liar won't admit to is that he starred in that role only in the showers and only for the real football players. :LMAO:

you are a one trick pony...and your sense of humor is horrible to boot...

lets keep this NYG relevant unless of course you are about as learned as RELYONELI and GO_ELI, then we as the FAB 4 will have to take special consideration with you too when we are engaged in a discussion

How is that taking a step in the right direction? And when has he ever been shy about telling the front office what he wants? Do you think that be telling the front office he wants another WR, he's going to gain any more chemistry with the WR's he's playing with? I doubt it.

Prestigous College does not do it credit - one of the world's leading institutions of learning is a more apt description, and I was indeed the star WR - adulation is something all FAB 4 members have and handle with dignity and grace.

The only way for this site to be relevant is for THE FAG 4 to leave and go somewhere else, like Hell. As far as being a one trick pony, that is the function of Liar Lockfart. He performs this trick with his mouth on the rest of the Fag 4. :LMAO:
