As much as you are usually right, it is you whos got this one wrong. Eli did a dipshit move, regardless of what that play calls for. And stupid penalties like the one Rolle did are FAR worse, especially when it gives them a 1st down and they shoulda been punting.

Not usually. Always. ;)

I've seen that play broken down on NFL film breakdown shows (like NFL Match Up... god, why couldn't that show be 3 hours, and ESPN NFL Countdown be 30 minutes), and allstarjim described it exactly right - the QB reads for press coverage, and if the corner is playing off then the quick toss to the isolated receiver goes live. But by design the QB doesn't have time to think about passing lanes, etc, as he would on a typical drop back - there's no 'aiming' the throw, its catch, turn, and fire, all on rhythm.

Like I said... you can fault him for not switching out of the play. You can fault Gilbride for calling it in the first place. But there was nothing wrong with the throw itself.

(Of course, I say that assuming the throw would have been on target... which we'll never know for sure.)

OK, explained that way, I agree with the whole breakdown of how that play should be and is executed......except for his throw. After all of that happened, he looked Kerrigan in the face and threw directly at him.
