Burress meeting

Plaxico Burress spent 90 minutes at the Giants' practice facility tonight for a much-anticipated meeting with coach Tom Coughlin. It was Burress' first visit to the Timex Performance Center.

Burress arrived at 6:30 p.m. and left shortly after 8. He spent nearly an hour with Coughlin. He followed with 10-15 minutes each with general manger Jerry Reese and team president John Mara.

"I can say the conversations we had were positive and that's what's most important," Reese said as he was leaving the building. "We'll see where it goes."

Burress also had conversations with many of his former teammates and coaches, including Brandon Jacobs as Burress entered the facility and Mike Sullivan as he left. The players' meetings finished as Burress was leaving, so he saw more players at that point.

"We'll see what comes out of this," Reese said. "Again, we don't bring people in for the fun of it. We bring people in to investigate into the possibility for the New York Giants. We think it's probably a possibility and we'll see where it goes."

At no point, though, did the team work him out.

"When you've been out for a couple of years you don't expect to work a guy out and see what you really think he can be because you'll get a bad concept fo what you want to look for," Reese said. "More than likely he's not going to look like he;s in midseason form when he's been away from the game for a couple of years. We didn't think it made sense for us to put him out there and work him out."

Reese said the Giants are "close" to a deal with first-round pick Prince Amukamara.

Speaking of cornerbacks, Reese had little public concern about the rival Philadelphia Eagles signing Nnamdi Asomugha.

"It's just one man," Reese said. "We love competition. He's a terrific football player but I'm just worried about the New York Giants."
