Delgado's : SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico -- Carlos Delgado traveled to Florida on Friday to have his injured left elbow examined by the New York Mets medical staff.

The Mets first baseman has tendinitis, which kept him out of the Puerto Rico lineup in the World Baseball Classic first round.

"He's day to day. He's feeling better," Puerto Rico general manager Lou Melendez said. "He went to Port St. Lucie so the Mets doctors can check him."

Delgado was scheduled to return to Puerto Rico on Friday night. He will practice with the team on Saturday, according to manager Jose Oquendo.

Oquendo hopes Delgado will be in the lineup in the second round, which begins Sunday and includes Cuba, Venezuela and the Dominican Republic.

"We hope he can do something tomorrow. We'll see how he feels after he does some hitting work in practice," Oquendo said.

Martinez's: PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. -- New York Mets right-hander Pedro Martinez threw 81 pitches off a mound during a bullpen session Saturday as he continues to recover from a right toe injury.

"It felt pretty good," Martinez said. "The results are great. I didn't throw too many at once. It's not time yet. It's just time to work."

Martinez took three breaks during the session in what he said was an attempt to better simulate an actual game.

He threw 62 pitches off a mound Wednesday, had a long toss session Thursday and took Friday off.

"I really have to work to get used to the mound and throw pitches around the plate," he said. "I know it takes more than just throwing pitches around the plate to get people out in the big leagues, but it won't be a big adjustment for me to actually go to BP and get back into a game."

He is still feeling his way through his pitching motion, though, seeing how his toe reacts each day.

"There is going to be a little this and that any time you go to the mound," he said. "It's not always just the shoe, sometimes my toe is sore, my shoulder is tingling and my elbow is sore. Something always happens. You go on and have great games."

It is still uncertain if Martinez will be ready for Opening Day. Left-hander Tom Glavine's schedule has been changed so he can start in case Martinez is not ready.

Martinez has never been this far behind in spring training, but he isn't fazed.

"I'm not worried," he said. "If I can recognize the mound, I can recognize the mound."

  2. If Fiedler has completely healed and isn't asking for too much i think EA should pull the trigger. We are talking about a proven player(Fiedler) vs. and unproven player(Hass). Let them battle it out in pre-season. I'm pretty sure Fiedler would win :worshippy:

    I think so too...

  3. Jay Fiedler, a guy who was never known as anything more than an overachieving backup with an average arm is coming off major shoulder surgery. There is no part of this guy I want. F him, he had his chance last year and chose the Jets, thank you very much, but no thank you.

    :o:clap:

  4. We have similar weapons if not better as the Skins at all positions such as RB and WR, a better TE, a better o-line, and a QB with much more potential who should only get better while Brunell may falter over the next season or two.

Very nice, Gateb!! all we need is a better 3rd reciever and I'll be happy

  5. I've heard from some various Padres fans that Nady really came on strong down the stretch even in that ballpark. Maybe he can contribute more then what we expected out of him.

I would like Nady to start over Diaz.... but is he quick?

  6. Yeah Carbo, Plax made no impact. Are you SH#@ing me!!! Since when have we had a wide receiver put up those type of numbers. Don't even say that he gave up at the end of the season, this whole team was lost in that Carolina game. Just as we were frustrated watching that game as fans, the players were pissed that the game plan was crap and we had no answer for Carolina's D-fense or offense for that matter.

Plax was a great pick up and we are going to see something awesome this year with this Giants offense. Believe me, being a fan I yell at the players all the time and say that they suck hoping that if you call them names then they'll do something good. Hopefully that's what your doing, because although true Giant fans get pissed at the players, like Plax for making some mistakes. We know that it is just a matter of time before they do something great.

This is our year Carbo, and they'll be looking for all our support. You make the choice BROTHER!!!

    :rock::rock::rock: Go get em G-Men

    Carbo is a troll

Giants add veteran corner MadisonBy Len Pasquarelli

    ESPN.com

Addressing one of their biggest offseason needs even before the free agent signing period officially commenced, the New York Giants on Friday reached agreement with former Miami Dolphins cornerback Sam Madison on a four-year contract.

The deal, which has been in the works for several days, is worth $7.4 million. It includes a signing bonus of $2 million and base salaries of $900,000 (for 2006), $1.2 million (2007), $1.5 million (2008) and $1.8 million (2009). There is also an annual incentive of $250,000 for four or more interceptions.

Released by the Dolphins last week for salary cap reasons, Madison visited with Giants officials early this week, and the two sides then opened negotiations. Agent Drew Rosenhaus declined to comment on the deal, but this marks the second season in a row in which he moved one of his high-profile free agent clients to the Giants to help bolster the defense.

Last spring, Rosenhaus negotiated the contract that sent standout middle linebacker Antonio Pierce to New York. He also signed wide receiver Plaxico Burress to a contract with the Giants in 2005.

New York coaches and team officials obviously targeted Madison, upon his release, as a veteran player still capable of producing at a position that figures to undergo an overhaul this offseason. Former first-round pick Will Allen, a starter since his 2001 rookie season with the Giants, is an unrestricted free agent and is not expected to return. His longtime starting partner, Will Peterson, missed all but two games in 2005 with a serious back problem, and his future remains uncertain.

The Giants feel that second-year pro Corey Webster, a second-round choice in '05, has the skills to emerge as a starter in 2006 and youngster Curtis DeLoatch still possesses great potential. But in adding Madison, the Giants have provided themselves with stability and veteran maturity, and acquired a proven player who has always been an excellent tutor to younger cornerbacks.

Since the end of the season, it had been speculated that the Dolphins would part ways with Madison, 31, for cap reasons. Madison said early in the offseason that he would not rework his contract to stay with the team, and conceded that would probably lead to his eventual release. But in later weeks, Madison indicated he might be open to readjusting his deal. The two sides were unable, though, to strike a compromise.

It marked the second spring in a row that Miami parted with a top cornerback, with the Dolphins having traded Madison's longtime partner, Patrick Surtain to Kansas City last year for a second-round draft choice, a move also forced by the team's salary cap overage at the time. For a period of about five seasons, Surtain and Madison formed one of the NFL's elite cornerback tandems.

A nine-year veteran and four-time Pro Bowl player, Madison has 31 career interceptions and 69 passes defensed. In 138 regular-season appearances, Madison, a former Louisville star selected by Miami in the second round of the 1997 draft, had 354 tackles.

  8. yeah padres.

and speaking of mets and padres let me be the first to inform you guys that you didn't get hosed on the cameron deal. nady's the real deal and single handedly kept our offense afloat in april and may last season. dont know if he'll hit the wall if he gets 500-600 at bats this season but IMO (and i watch plenty of yankees and mets games to compensate for not watching my own team) he's better than diaz and should be the starter

good info., bro... I'll try to find some video's of him online

  9. Recently there has been a lot of negative sentiment directed towards William Joseph, with posters suggesting his performance in 2005 was problematic and that he needs to be replaced. So I decided to investigate this issue and provide a detailed examination of the Giants defensive performance with and without Joseph in 2005. Here are the results of my research...

Passing Yards Allowed Per Game: 215.8

    Sacks Per Game: 2.3

    Conclusion

As the statistics indicate, the defense experienced a significant decline in production after Joseph was sidelined due to injury. By any objective measure, Joseph was a strong contributor to the defense when he was healthy, as evidenced by the drop-off in defensive output after he was injured. Therefore, those of you who suggest that Joseph was part of problem instead of being part of the solution are simply off base ... the defense performed better when he was in the line-up. Suffice to say, the methods employed by anyone who discredits William Joseph's play in 2005 are about as useful for evaluating defensive players as forks are for eating soup.

    Discuss.
