  1. Losing Phil Simms in 1994 when he still had a good year or 2 left was the worst personnel decision the Giants have made in recent(last 25 years).. Letting Tom Landry and Vince Lombardi go coach elsewhere ranks up there too, especially when you consider the man they chose was Allie Sherman. So in a nutshell. No this was not the worst personnel move the Giants have ever made. Probably if we think about the last 40 years, not even in the top 10, but thanks for asking it anyway.
  2. Two things dawned on my white watching that. #1) I want the Giants to win another SB this year and #2)we may never see a better finish to a bigger Giant game ever again in our lifetimes.
  3. I cite the 64 Phils as evidence that what happens to a team that collapses in epic proportions usually takes a while to recover from. I could not agree more, start over.
  4. ehh... he at this point is the 5th or 6th reliever of the bunch anyway... in a perfect world the Mets drive in some runs and Krod is pitching the bottom of the inning....truth be told he does suck though. My guess is he will be good(like Heilman)when he goes elsewhere away from the stench of this team.
  5. be careful with remarks like those around here you could get labeled
  6. Good to see the Mets still know how to run themselves out of an inning. Come on Razor know your opponent. Why did Santos a catcher not try and go at the catcher? Not a big deal, but I assume this guy has taken contact and is not afraid of it. Feliciano is paid to get lefties out(particularly on this team) and on back to back days gave up a cheapy homer to Utley, but an absolute bomb to Ibanez....Come on Pedro :brooding:
  7. No hubie was traded before the 85 season to montreal in the gary carter deal, along with top pitching prospect floyd youmans and outfielder Herm Winningham and 2 more guys I do not remember..... yes I remember the 3B trash and David Wright certainly is not it!
  8. they played the "chokers" clip from WFAN
  9. nah I like Zito and expect Omar to acquire him at some point so I will be forced to root for him. Sarcasm is a great trait to have...so is understanding it....
  10. UTLEY hits a deep bomb 1 row back in the bandbox. Thats an out in 29 other parks.....joke
  11. LMAO@ SNY playing the Hamels interview....pump that down to the clubhouse... EVERY INNING!
  12. this is consistent with your "body of work" blu
  13. The Mets would win 110 games if they played 81 home games at this bandbox..... Its been the tonic for the Mets offense since its opened though
  14. Why does it have to be that either Blackburn sucks? Or Blackburn is great? He is what he is, a very nice backup player who contributes on special teams and has played well at times when called upon to start. There is nothing wrong with having that type of player on your roster long term, it makes for continuity and continued competition as Chase has shown he will battle no matter what the position is for.
  15. Just to be clear here Jack, when Tom needed a coordinator he did not reach for "the best young so-ordinator in the business". He actually interviewed and "reached" for a young positional coach from a team that had had a very good defense for many years. In fact Spags HAD NEVER coordinated a game in his ENTIRE life before week 1 of the 2007 season in Dallas. In fact if you recall many people brought that up when his defense was torched for 80 pts in 2 games. I am sure though you did not, as you always knew that Steve Spagnolou was a terrific position coach on a team that had been a playoff one for many years.
  16. remember one thing about Omar, he was the long time assistant GM of the Mets under Philips and director of scouting so a lot of that talent we all remember from the old EXPOS days were players that were actually acquired under Kevin Malone in the early 90's. Omar was also the GM when he traded Cliff Lee, Grady Sizemore and Brandon Philips for 2 month rental Bartolo Colon. Omar was a terrific Latin American scout with the Mets and was responsible for guys like Reyes and Melvin Mora. I agree with you 100% on the ownership aspect.
  17. I am with you on Schneider as you can hear Mike and heyman also basically say his "skills" are a myth. You are correct though they are a bunch of clowns.....Omar is next on the chopping block, but sadly as long as Jeff and Dodger Fred are there this franchise will always be 2nd rate.
  18. I guess its not new news, but it speaks volumes for the type of guy he is and the Mets horrid catching situation. They kill Schneider too, who if I am not mistaken you also have no use for and have been very critical of. Why would the Mets even want Ramon? I just find it incredible that a pro athlete would be content not playing all the time.
  19. Today on WFAN on Mike Francessa's show in an interview with Si.coms John Heyman it was revealed that Ramon Castro DID NOT want to be the Mets starting regular catcher. Yes he declined to be the starter when they asked him! Disturbing to say the least and IMO sums up all you need to know about this franchise. Why would you even WANT a player who is content with being a backup? Here is the listen its about a third of the way into the interview Heyman with Francessa
  20. agreed. Blackburn reminds me of that 4th outfielder in baseball who plays very well for your team when asked, gets big hits when called upon and is a good backup to all the regulars. Only when you see him on a conistent basis like the regulars he fails to then meet the constant expectations. There have been a on of Giants over the years like this, from Lewis Tillman to Chad Bratzke etc. sometimes its best to realize what a guy is good at and even though it might not be for all the glory and money, its what he does well. Backing up and playing St's is what Blackburn does well.
  21. One of the key elements to spags defense is blitzing and I think a lot of times certain guys get left out on "an island" so to speak and they sometimes get burned in coverage, particularly when they would send the safeties and it was the MLB or WLB responsibility to get that TE or RB out of the backfield. I am in no way making exuses for Pierce, he had a down year and has never been a great cover LB, but I think most Lbers might not look as good with that type defense in coverage. Although I am not a huge Pierce fan, I think he does a lot of yapping(although he has been very quiet this off season which IMO is a very good thing)I think we can get by with him. The transition will begin soon away from Pierce as the starting MLB though. I am not sure though that Blackburn is that guy. I think the coaches like Goff and kehl more as starters long term.
