  1. he is doing all that giants would like to be getting out of jacobs, and instead they got attitude and "use me"...now they have to use him, and he demonstrates what he has demonstrated his whole career...without a gaping hole to gallop through, he tip toes. the dog has no great allegiance to barber, but hole or not, he hits the line full speed. and his ypc is deceiving - for example, up by several scores against detroit, he carried the ball exclusively at the end of the game as they ran out the clock. no threat of a pass meant just run full speed into the line and end the game...that, along with being a short yardage specialist at this stage limits ypc...jacobs can't even do that well, and this just in, hasn't been great at it over his career...but the dog will agree, he is done.

Didn't Jacobs get stuffed on another 3rd and 1 last night (not sure, I was listening on radio with fuzzy reception)?

But, if he did, is he not be paid if for nothing else to make that first down?

How may times has this guy been stuffed on short yardage situations?

  2. '

I can sum it up in 2 sentences:

    1) Eli is not elite and made errors and displayed poor judgment at critical junctures.

    2) The Giants defense is overrated. :o

Interestingly, I can sum up Giants/Eagles in 2 sentences -- by simply relying on my summary of Giants/49ers.

What say you BigBlue? Do we have a pattern forming here? :o

  3. Not making excuses.. just keep in mind Eli plays in NY... under the microscope if you will.. and whoever that jackass announcer last night.. Chris Collinshit.. he just couldn't hide his disdain for the Giants. One thing we can focus on regarding last night.. it's rhythm.. Eli placed the ball where it needed to be and on a lot occasions.. balls were dropped... can't fault him for that.. Eli is solid... the Giants had a shitty game last night... NO QB can do better when he's being harassed on every play.

I don't know, Nas. The INT's he has thrown the last two weeks were as bad as any QB I have every seen. And you have the protect the ball better than that on the last fumble. He steps up to avoid the rush so he has to know guys are behind him -- especially given the pressure he was under all night.

That was not an elite effort last night. Montana, who is the definition of elit, didn't finish off drives like that. If he had, we wouldn't even remember who he was...

  4. I can sum up the loss in a very few words.

Fewell got bambozzled and played the 49rs to run all day......we never adjusted and brought the heat because the 49rs from play 1

came out planning to fool us and pass all day.....unbelievable, what did we blitz twice or 3 times all day?

Eli only threw to Nicks twice all day

Coughlin stubbornly refuses to play DaRel Scott at RB

They removed Boothe from the OLine for Baas

Depite Tom's promise last year his KR blockers would not peel back until the ball was solidly kicked.......We got fooled again

what a shock that team with half our offense would try a trick play :o(

    '

I can sum it up in 2 sentences:

    1) Eli is not elite and made errors and displayed poor judgment at critical junctures.

    2) The Giants defense is overrated. :o

  5. And lost to the Patriots, while the Giants didn't have there number 1 receiver, number 1 running back and starting center.

    Goes both ways, dick.

Calm down, I was not trying to make a broad statement about anything, or make any comparisons what so ever to the Pats or anyother team.

I was just attempting to point out that it is not necessary to go back in time and kidnap Joe Montana in the prime of his career to thwart this ever indimidating and seemingly unstoppable 49ers team. :WS:

Get a guy with 2 healthy lungs, a live arm, and fire away... :P

  6. as i recall egg dog was front and center in hailing mcdaniel's/orton's 6-0 start (at the same time down playing the giants equal record) kind of arguing against itself.

gman is of course correct. people who root for giants in baseball and football are naturally intuitive.

For the sake of simplifying all of these posts and sticking to the topic at hand -- a Giants team that will eventually be exposed and sent home, partically because of overrated QB play -- let's set the record straight for the 100th time:

I am not the Dog. I agree with much of what he says but I am a Dallas fan and I too am curious who he roots for. If he is a Cowboys fan he should come out and say it -- because I don't appreciate closet fans either.

And you're not getting under my skin by blending us together. I just find that it wastes time and space.

Now BB will never get this. But that's what makes BB special. There are some things that he'll just never get.

But the rest of us can probably agree to stop wasting time and space of the dog/egg nonsense.

  7. well nas, this may not be the best time for the dog to state that the 49ers are not as good as the 7-1 record sounds. so yes, the dog frankly believes that the giants are going to win this game. call it downplaying if you want, but the league is in an odd place were there is no clear cut upper tier of teams....and quite frankly, if you feel that 6-2 given the schedule is elite, than good for you.

I agree here Dog. The Giants should win this game. Let's not forget that the Cowboys beat them with a QB that had 1 working lung and a WR named Jessie Holley.

  8. Our run D is not as good as what it used to be but it's not like RBs have lit us up either. This week we face one of top rushing teams in the league with Frank Gore leading that attack.... at the end of the day what matters is who gets that W. But I'm sure if the Giants win that game, you and Egg would still downplay the event... It's sad because I happened to be one of those who gives credit where credit is due... notice our reaction to the Ware thread.. many of us stated our respect and admiration for him... maybe that's our persona... The Giants are 6-2.. and Eli is currently 5th in the league in QB rating and the best in the 4th qtr... you are what your record says you are.. and right not the team's record and Eli's record.. are.. Elite.

Nas, go back and look at my posts. I have more than given the Giants credit for being 6-2. As I said earlier, they are doing what they need to do and their coaching staff has been outstanding to this point.

Now why is that not enough?

Why are you not satisified unless we get down on our knees and pay homage to Manning's little brother?

  9. True.. and we all thought the Eagles would be unstoppable too.. at least some of us did. The difference here is those rankings are based on solid stats not projections.

These "expert" opinions are based on past performances against 8 opponents who may have 8 of the first 10 picks in next year's draft when all is said and done. That's the problem with throwing around the word "elite" in week 8, especially with a team and QB that has by enlarge failed to live up to the hype on the back end of the season.

  10. I failed to address your other statement about the Pats game. My bad.

You mentioned the Patriots averaged 4.4 yards per carry as an indictment of the defense? They had 2 carries for more than 10 yards, none for more than 20. BGE had an 18 yarder and Welker had a 13 yarder on a reverse. They totaled only 106 yards rushing. Not phenomenal but a big improvement. In fact, other than the 18 yard run BGE averaged 3.1 ypc on his other carries. The Giants stuffed a good deal of his and Woodhead's runs. That was what I SAW when I watched the game Dog, instead of regurgitating stats. But if that's your style, than I give you this:

4.4 ypc is a big improvement over 7.6 ypc (Fred Jackson, on 16/121/1 TD), 8.2 ypc (Marshawn Lynch on 12/98/1 TD), 5.1 ypc (Beanie Wells on 27/138/3 TDs), and 5.3 ypc (LeSean McCoy on 24/128/1 TD), which was the Giants (lack of) peformance in the 4 games prior to the Dolphins game.

I see greater effort in stopping the run, Dog, but feel free to continue throwing shit at the wall.

Not to get into the Dog's way, but what I SAW during the Giants/Pat's game CONFIRMED what I already KNEW:

Danny Woodhead is not Fred Jackson. Not Beanie Wells. And not even Marshawn Lynch. And McCoy? Let's not even go there. But, by all means, thump your chest for shutting down the dreaded Danny Woodhead.

I willing to bet that the Giants would have shut Woodhead down week 1. But would be gashed by Fred Jackson next week.

And all of this proves my point: When you need to resort to Wes Welker running a reverse, your offense desperately lacks playmakers. Brady has no one that can legitimately stretch the field. And no one that can run the ball.

  11. Yes, he has made some great plays since Eli has mentored him to know what he's doing out there. I'm not taking anything away from Victor, he's shown great hands, a little wiggle, and pretty good quicks. But some people were saying Steve Smith was irreplaceable and he's on the scout team now with Philly. It seems Eli's play has something to do with what is transpiring with the receivers.

Yes, when Victor Cruz made a 1-handed bobbling catch between 2 Seattle DB's after his "elite" QB wisely threw into double coverage, it was Eli "willing" and "mentoring" him into the endzone.

Same could be said when he turned a short pass into a long TD against the Eagles. Or when he wrested the ball away from Eagles defenders for the last score.

As to Steve Smith, when he was 100% healthy it could be argued that he was irreplaceable. In fact, what made Smith great was that he almost always found a way to get open. A credit to Smith and the offensive coordinator...hmmm...

Speaking of which, could the fact that the Giants WR are having so much success be attributed to the "mentoring" of the coaching staff?

    Nah...It's all Eli.

  12. this, like much of what you wrote (or of what the dog actually was patient enough to read), is as silly as anything said on this board. you know why "allstar" jim? because the giants are a handful, less than 10, plays away from being a 1 win team, that's why. every win with the exception of the rams, which wasn't very impressive anyway, was in doubt in quarter 4. and if not for a play or two in each of those games, the giant record could be the polar opposite of what it is now, against teams with a combined 22-42 record.

and please do tell (in 4,234 words or less please doll), how many teams that rank dead last each year in total defense are putting a dominating defense as you put it on the field? that is laughable.

little eli has played well. virtuoso? too funny!

Without digging up the videos and statistics I seem to remember Victor Cruz making Eli look good a play or two.

Granted, he didn't catch the ball with his helmet but...

    Just sayin...

  13. mods please pin...this is phenomanol, expert, dare the dog say elite commentary. this type of analysis should quite frankly land you a spot on the NFL Today pre-game show. so the defense has to stop the running back with the 5th most yardage in the league to date? the dog hopes the giant coaching staff is listening. but to not stop there, and to eloquently state that the 49ers have a strong D, when they are ranked in the top 10 overall...gold, pure gold. what's more, going out on the proverbial limb and stating that you "don't think" the 49ers will pass for much, given that they rank 30th in passing yards per game was not only genius, but speaks to one's ability to look inside the numbers, a skill that so many forget when assessing a pending game. please, if you will, take us through the remaining games of the week so that zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz..................

    :LMAO:

Here I am, in my mother's basement, laughing my ass off.

  14. You know whats hilarious?? Is that ALL cowshit fans were bragging about almost beating the Pats. They were VERY good when the cowshits played em, not so much when we did........

Shut the fuck up egg and crawl back in youre hole. The sooner you deal with having a choke artist for a QB and no brains in your head the better off for you.

Who brags about almost beating the Pats?

You know I think you make stuff up.

I stand by what I said. I would love to say that the Cowboys almost beat an "elite" -- there's that word again -- an "elite" Pat's team. Truth is, Pats aren't that good. They weren't that good when the Cowboys played them and they still aren't that good. Hell, I'm not impressed by how the Cowboys played against a crappy Seahawks team last weekend. Great teams don't let the Seahawks hang around. Period.

Romo is not a choker. But I'll save that argument for another day and a more worthy adversary. :owned:

  15. If.. then.. else..

this is the NFL.. no teams "suck".. Case in point.. the Eagles have a terrible record but they manhandled your team. What I see is you will never give Eli credit.. and the only knock against him is.. he's not Rodgers. Stats say he's a top 5 QB in this league and is the best when it matters most... he's 4th Qtr rating.. is #1.. that's better than Rodgers.. and to think he's missing his top WR... and his top RB... and with a reshuffled OL.. come on now..

The reshuffled OL has nothing to do with it because they still block pretty damn well.

Nicks is hurt but he was not having a no # 1 WR type year anyway. The Giants WR are pretty damn good, with or without Nicks.

Ballard is doing pretty good as well.

Truthfully, you put Brady on the Giants last Sunday and give him the Patriots defense to pick apart and he runs up 350 yards and 40 points. Manning is not Brady. Not now.

IMO, the Giants are extremely well coached. And they have a done a good job putting talent around Eli.

And you have to give them credit for being 6-2.

But to label last Sunday and any of the Giants accomplishments thus far anything more than solid team play is absurd. Especially with 8 games to go.

And by the way, that was a great pick Brady Jr threw in the endzone. Elite decision making.

If Tom Brady had any weapons to work with the game would have been over at that moment.

  16. The Patriots were 5-2 when we played them. There's a reason for that. And even if we concede your point... if the Giants take 2 more wins out of the 9ers, Eagles, Saints, GB stretch, will you admit they're on par with those teams?

Sure...I will admit they are on par with those teams. But if they make the playoffs and are obliterated by Detriot, will the Giants get a special trophy for being on par with those teams and will Eli get the "on par" MVP award?

  17. Say what you will Egg but you just can't go against an overall QB rating of 98. And you just can't question not one but TWO td drives in the final minutes of that game.

You can't take away the TEAM win. A win is a win. But to elevate this to anything more is just silly.

I had the Cowboys as an 8-8, 9-7 type team at the beginning of the year. The most disappointing thing about their loss to the Patriots is not that they lost to the Patriots, is that they lost to an average team.

That's what the 2011 Patriots are. Average. By year's end, they may be a joke.

The Patriots are smoke and mirrors and their coach and QB deserve tons of credit for what they are doing.

Average to below average defense (actually statistically ranked dead last in the NFL).

    No running game.

    No deep threat.

    Nothing.

At best, the Patriots are one and done in the playoffs.

Take it for what it's worth. One more step in the ladder that the Giants need to make a run.

But if you are labeling anything or anyone elite at this point you are fooling yourself.

    And you're smarter than that.

The rest of the season will prove me right.

  18. And so, Dog, here we are, at the midpoint of the season.

I believe a sufficient passage of time, and accumulation of statistics, allow a more accurate assessment of Eli's performance this season.

In fact, many other critics have modifed their opinion of Eli Manning. I have even heard the term "elite" bandied about.

And so, please consider this a "truth and reconciliation moment".....your opportunity to revise your opening comments.

    Hmmmm...the "critics"...

The same critics Giants fans ridicule every year for picking their team and their QB to be average...

The same critics that jump the gun on almost every judgment...partially because it is their job...

Let's see what these critics are saying in Dec and Jan when, some numbnuts safety on a Patriots team that is not even in the playoffs is not around to obliterate a covered WR at the 1 yardline to whom, our "elite" QB admits that he was not even looking to hook up with -- our "elite" QB was actually throwing the ball away...

I'm sure there will be plenty of people "revising" their comments by year's end. I don't think I will be one of them.

The house of cards will fall. And I'm not talking about Arizona.

  19. Yawn.

That pass was tipped twice for that interception after Cruz slipped. It wasn't Cruz's fault, but it damn sure wasn't Manning's, either--it was just a good defensive tip drill. And if you look at the replay, Manning was already throwing when Bradshaw was slipping out of the pocket, so how the hell is he supposed to throw to him?

Disregard, of course, that he had driven the team down the field and came close to yet another come from behind victory.

I know, he's not like Romo, who's always able to find the open defender.

    4...FOUR...count them...4 Turnovers my friend...

Maybe one of the reasons that Eli always has to come from behind is because...

HE IS NOT PLAYING WELL ENOUGH THE FIRST 3 QUARTERS OF THE GAME... :o

SEE...Gift INT TD he gave to the Redskins in Week 1, which I believe was the 2nd Q...

  20. the dog got to watch most of the game...shame about the 95 yard game clinching interception when the pressure was on...

Forgetting about the FUMBLES and the other picks, according to the GIANTS radio broadcast team, had...

Mr. Eli "Elite" Manning looked he would have seen that Bradshaw was so WIDE OPEN he could have "MOONWALKED" into the endzone. Those are not my words... :puke:

But I guess Eli doesn't get paid to make those reads. Gilbride's fault.

But here is the bright side...You guys could be saddled with Mr. Tom "4 interceptions' Brady...

    Right, Fishy????

  21. the dog suggests you go back and review the games. defense controlled the buccears. now, certainly the giants in general handled that game in all aspects, and again, manning played a solid mistake free game. go to dallas. after a sluggish start against the run game, that defense tortured that o-line and romo all game. the fact that eli completed a short out pattern that toomer took 54 yards after breaking a tackle doesn't strike the dog as dominant. solid, yes. solid game overall, yes. go to green bay. defense stymied that team as well. eli didn't turn the ball over (very much to his credit, by the way, given the circumstances). he played a solid game. and the super bowl was more of the same. since the defense played a key role in all of that, it fails to be a bullshit argument.

and please highlight another 4 game stretch in his 7 year career that eli played mistake free football and was solid throughout? when you do, then you can call the dog's comment backhanded...until then, deal with the facts.

Bottom line is that there are probably more than15 other QBs that could have won the Giants the Superbowl in 2007 and would not have needed a freaky circus catch by a no-name WR to do it.

  22. define performance under pressure (and the dog is being serious)...is it the defined by performance when being rushed by defenders, or is it defined as performance when trailing late and needing to come up big in the end?

and by the way, to highlight brady's 4 pick day, and the dog can count on one hand how many times he has had a bad performance in his career, is odd and has no place. here is the thing, if the dog is so off about manning, then why do these issues and debates continue to pop up? if he is so good, then why are people constantly making excuses for him not delivering overall (see the following: Gillbride's system...Gillbride's playcalling...losing burress...shockey being a malcontent....tiki barber was a bad lockerroom influence...coughlin is out of touch...jacobs is injured...WR are injured...jacobs is injured again...running backs fumble...wr don't understand the system....lineman are hurt....he has a bad foot...he is a slow starter....jacobs just got hurt again....he lost his security blanket in burress...he lost his security blanket in smith...(he has more security blankets than Linus)...etc...etc...). Every year it's the same. at some point, the dog would imagine it is more exhausting to list excuses than it is to accept that he is a solid QB held back by his constant inconsistencies...

    Linus? :LMAO:
