It isn't a "right move" if you are unaware of the ramifications of all of the moves available to you. It is more akin too stumbling around in a stupor hoping something goes right.

 

It is extremely hard to make the playoffs in the NFL. For a head coach and / or his players to view a game as a meaningless when, in actuality, it takes away a path to the post season tournament is the height of idiocy.

You're looking more and more foolish every post. They were aware of the ramifications and they made a choice. To argue that they were unaware of what was going on is just silly.

Even if they lose to the Giants I believe it was the right choice. If they can't beat the Giants Sunday night, they don't have a prayer in NO or GB. Period.

Their QB had a bad throwing hand. Becuase they did not think they could win with Steven Maghee (the 3rd stringer because the 2nd stringer who beat the Giants last year in the meadowlands was also hurt) they chose to rest other guys. I think Felix Jones has a bad hamstring. DeMarcus has been banged up as well as Ratliff. Makes sense to me.

I think its stupid to "claim" the game was meaningless. They sound foolish saying that.

But again, if you cant beat the 8-7 with the medicore defense you will not have a prayer in the playoffs. You rest your guys, try to get them healthy, and go play an opponent who is VERY BEATABLE. If you lose, you lose.

The game that haunts the Cowboys is the Cardnals. But againt, at the end of the day you are a 9-7 type team whose glaring weaknesses happen to match up with the incredible strengths of teams like NO and GB.

In all likelihood, as painful as it is to admit, this is just not the Cowboys year. And, if you are being honest with yourself, it is not the Giants year either.

Fair points Badegg I was just trying to grind your gears haha. Romo isn't a bad QB and he is better then Rexy, but not by alot. He's a top 10 QB, but he's definately in the 9-10 range where Eli is top 5. Romo does choke alot though you can't lie.

 

I think the key to Sunday's game for the cowboys is there defense. I think the Giants D will be better.

I don't think Romo chokes and I think he and Eli are alot closer than people here want to admit. If I were building a team right now and I had my choice, it would probably be Brady, Brees, Rodgers, Peyton Manning if healthy and maybe Rothlesberger. Maybe. But after the first 4 Eli and Romo are basically a toss up for me. They both have their strengths and they both tend to make inexplicable bad plays from time to time that keeps them below the guys mentioned above IMO. I don't necessarily think its choking. But maybe stupidity.

I think you are spot on with the defenses. The Giants generate a better pass rush. The Cowboys back side of teh Cowboys defense and their pass rush are capable of a very good game from time to time, so maybe they bring it Sunday. But most of the time, they haven't. Again, they just don't have the talent to run the type of defense Ryan wants to run. Cowboys fans who were being honest with themselves in Sept realized this back then. He needs to change it up a little Sunday night,

2 weeks ago he missed a wide open miles Austin to win the game and the division.

To argue that Romo "chokes all the time" is just ignorant. Their failure to win a Superbowl while Romo has been around is a Cowboys/coaching issue more than a Romo issue. They just have not been good enough from top to bottom.

The play 2 weeks ago looked awkward to begin with and neither Austin nor Romo looked like they were on the same page. Austin has since admitted he lost the ball in the lights and I'll buy that.

I don't look at Sunday night as Eli vs. Romo. Fact of the matter is that the Giants D-line is playing better than the Cowboys o-line right now and vice versa. If the Cowboys protect Romo, it is more likely that he'll put 30 points on the board then choke. If the Cowboys generate a pass rush that actually results in some sacks, they have a chance. If they blitz and don't get near Manning, like 2 weeks ago, they most likely will loose. The defense has to do something, it's not all on the QB.

And I love how you guys come in here chirping like we didn't beat you just a few weeks ago.

If you check my posts most of my Cowboys chirping this season has been to the tune of 8-8. See, I got it all figured out. Just like the Giants...until they play the 49ers, Saints, Packers or, of course, the dreaded Redskins.

You should be worried after the Giants finally figured out how to produce a Giants-like defensive performance. Brooms are out, get ready for a sweep.

This is what I love about you guys. Everytime the Giants have a good game, the Giants have "figure it out." The 2011 Giants have a knack for figuring it out against bad teams and getting blasted by good offensive teams. I guess it's a good thing that they won't be seeing Rex Grossman any more this season because they haven't "figured" him out.

Win or lose Dallas isn't going anywhere. If the Cowboys blow it again this year against this Giants team. It should be the death blow for the Romo era.

The second part of that statement is crazy. I'm very optimistic about the next season. This weekend is a gage of this season but means very little for the future of either team. Really, Sunday night is two teams that have been injury riddled and hurting talent wise in key areas battling out after a short off season in which neither team did anything of significance to better themselves. I think the Giants would be foolish to can Tom this year, regardless of what occurs Sunday night but that's just my two cents.

But as far as the Romo era is concerned, if Murray comes back and plays as well as he did this season, the Cowboys are loaded at offensive skill positions, even if Witten is getting older. They need some help on the OL. On defense, they need atleast another good pass rusher, a DB, or preferrably both. But I think in this day and age, they can fix their weaknesses fairly quickly and be very good next season. The fact that they may have permantly answered questions at RB, K, OT, and MLB this season is a good thing.

LOL. For a team and a fan base that likes to think of themselves as "knowledgeable" this is a real head scratcher. You, of course, are not the only mathematically challenged ladyboy though because I heard this from quite a few other dummies as well.

 

 

If Dallas had won Sunday against Philly, they would still be in the hunt for the last wild card spot and would have gotten in with a loss to the giants and an Atlanta loss to TB.

 

So if both Atl and Dallas both lose Sunday you can rest easy in the knowledge that you are going home because your Ivy League coach is too stupid to understand the playoff system/.

I don't have an issue with Garrett holding Romo out because his hand was supposedly the size of a greatfruit, so I don't know how he throws the ball. Also, and this is not a cut on the Giants, but they aren't a great team. So if you can't beat the Giants in Dec, you are probably not going to fair very well against the 49ers, Saints, or Packers on the road or even the Lions at home. Never say never but I don't see either the Cowboys or Giants going to the Superbowl. Anything can happen, but their weaknesses play to the strengths of the Packers, Saints, and even the Lions. I also wouldn't count on TB beating Atlanta when something is on the line and wouldn't have risked Romo for that.

I didn't see much of the game but they have a number of guys banged up so I don't have an issue with them resting any of them the Philly game once they decided to sit Romo. Personally, I don't know what Austing was doing playing the entire game. And what is interesting is that they lost another guard that game anyway, which hurts.

I'm sure Garrett undertands the playoff system and to suggest that he doesn't is absurd. The fact that the Cowboys chose to publicly SPIN things the way they did may have been silly, but they still control their own destiny so to that extent the game was meaningless. Beat the 8-7 team or go home like you should.

I don't think the eagles would stand a snowballs chance in hell against the Saints or the Pack. By a good run I assume you mean they play in the NFCC. If they play either the saints or the pack before the NFCC they will IMO lose. I don;t think they match up well vs either of these teams if by chance one of these teams gets knocked off early, then I would have to agree with a "deep" run.As far as the Giants, this team is so erratic there is no way to gauge them. They seem to be a team that can be easily demoralized. The Eagles loss this year will never leave me, they where punked, and to me, once you get punked like that everyone knows your a pussy. A few int's or blown plays early and they fold. The whole play off scenario for this division is proof of how weak these teams are.

I don't know about that. I think the Eagles have just enough speed to keep up with the like of GB and NO if Vick plays well. I think between Vick's running and McCoy's running, they can slow it down if necessary and hold the ball.

I also think that they have just enough on defense to make life difficult for these teams, even more so for GB.

What struck me about their lopsided win against Dallas was not the fact that they scored 35 and held Dallas to 7. It was the way they did it. There defense didn't dominate the Cowboys. The Eagles offense held on to the ball for long periods of time, and never really gave the Cowboys offense a chance to get in any consistent rhythem.

With all that being said...

Detroit probably wins the Superbowl...

IMO Eagle are going to take the division. at 8-8 our division is a disgrace.

If the Eagles get in I think they make a legitimate run.

But I don't know if I see the Jets beating the Giants anymore. Don't get me wrong, I would love for it to happen because the Cowboys could wrap it up Sat, but this is a game that the Giants should win.

if anyone thinks either of these teams can compete with SF, GB or NO, they are sadly mistaken.

 

 

Eagles have the athletes to give those teams trouble. I hope they get in.

The Eagles are best equipped to play with these teams. And I agree that SF,GB, and NO are all better than the NFC East.

But the Cowboys beat the 49ers and the Giants gave them trouble. Any team that can score and play some semblance of defense can give the 49ers trouble. I'm not sold on them because they beat Pitt. And what's laughable is that one commenator started throwing around the "E" word when writing about SF/Pitt. Yes, now SF is elite. They beat Pitt because the QB was hurt and Pitt was not very explosive on offense. The type of team that SF will match up well against.

I think teams will also be able to hang with GB with a little luck. Still not sold on running game and defense. But NO in NO is trouble.

You do have to tip your hat to the Eagles a little bit. In the offseason, they did the most to try and improve their team. The Cowboys did not address the secondary and getting Rob Ryan, without more, is not enough. Meanwhile, the Giants probably could have done more with their LBs or O-line, no?

Last week I had the Cowboys beating Tampa and the Giants beating the Skins. I never thought the Giants would lose that one, but I did think that the Jets would beat the Giants. I though the Cowboys would beat the Eagles and it would come down to New Years day.

But now, I have no idea what the Cowboys will do against Philly.

And I think Philly's destroying the Jets helps the Giants. I can't see the Jets feeling too confident after that beating. But they can't let the Jets slow the game down and keep the score low, like the Skins did.

But If I'm being honest, of the 3 NFC East teams, if one get's hot, I think the Eagles have the potential to do the most damage in the playoffs. But who knows.

Romo is having a very good year Egg. If he didn't single handedly lose the Detroit game you wouldn't have to worry about week 17 at Metlife Stadium if the Giants win on Saturday. For me though, he needs to prove his mettle in the playoffs and he has yet to do that.

I agree, which is my point. I'm going to label Romo when he retires. But for now he is playing well enough that I want him as the QB. But yes he and HIS TEAM need to play well in the playoffs, should they get back there.

As far as the Detriot game goes, I cannot defend some of the throws he made. But the bigger issue in that game was the lack of a running game, which will come back to haunt them this season and maybe this week.

When you are up by 3 or more scores in the third, and your QB is playing lights out, you should not have to throw the ball 40 + times to win. When you drop back that many times, bad things will happen.

Felix Jones is not going to get the tough yards in the fourth. It killed them in Detriot and it killed them against the Jets & Giants. And it will kill them later this year, unless they get something more than I expect out of Morris.

I'll respond for the 100th time because you are the only person that does not get it. The Dog and I are not the same person. We share similar views, however, and I will admit that when I blow by the Sportswrath website from time to time each week, I will see if the Dog has posted, read what he says, and if he is around, I will log on if I have time.

Back to the Manning "elite" debate let me say this: I don't think there is a point to labeling any player elite until they retire. And I still don't care about the labels. I know some Cowboys fans that will argue until they are blue in the face that Emmit Smith was the greatest running back of all time. And then there others who will counter that Barry Sanders is and Emmitt is the product of a good o-line. Personally, I don't give a shit. In my opinion, they are two of the greatest RBs to every play, I don't really care to label one over the other, or call either one "elite."

But, if we are arguing that Manning is elite based on his performance this season, I get great pleasure in the fact that Romo is having a better season in every single QB statistic there is, except for yardage, which Manning has a slight edge...

As far as fourth quarter comebacks go, Romo has quite a few in his career as well.

The biggest thing that separates the two QBs is that Patrick Crayton dropped the ball in 2007 instead of catching it with his head.

because as the dog has said on a constant basis, eli is like clockwork with the inconsistent performance. again, he is a solid QB and has had a very good year. elite he is not. but lest you think the dog is holding some sort of vendetta against him, let's investigate, shall we?

did you know that eli has a career losing record in december (17-21)? throw away year 1 to be fair, and he is a 500 QB in that time. he has a career 4-3 postseason mark, but has won a post season game in only one season. he is 0-3 every other season.

 

every year down the stretch there is at least one giant egg that is layed...the cowboy win was a huge victory, completely diminished by yesterday's performance, which was as predictable as a snow storm in january in anchorage alaska...

But I give credit to the Giants offensive line for keeping Manning upright. Rob Ryan was a big help because he tends to run the type of defense that he wants to despite the fact that he does not yet have the talent to do it (hence my original 8-8 prediction). But we'll see...

I still contend the Giants did beat the Packers... aside from all the bs calls.. taking away Ballard's TD and giving them a bs TD.... that's 14 points right there... we end up settling for 3 and they end up getting a td instead of a FG... that nets 7 points... and that's only those two bad calls... that were reviewed mind you...

Why didn't the Giants simply stop GB on the last drive and win in OT. It's not like that option was off the table when they "took away" Ballard's TD, assuming that it is even true, which is debatable.
