  1. Didn't pay attention during the Eagles game that much, but Diehl was decimated in the first two games.

He gave up three sacks in the Redskins game all EXACTLY the same way. He just got shoved to his left and then the guy blew by him to his right. The plays were even so similar I had to keep checking that I was actually watching different plays as opposed to watching the same sack over and over. And against the Rams he gave up a sack again against EXACTLY the same move.

I think CD is right he's not used to a more balanced attack from either side. He's probably still adjusting from LT where he probably spent most of his time shoving DE's on the outside rush deep into the backfield. We'll see, but he was awful to start the year.

I'm not quite sold on Beatty, but it's really not crazy that he'd need help against Cole. I personally think Cole is better than our ends, he's just a beast.

  2. This is McCoy's TD run

If you watch JPP he makes the huge mistake of turning his head away from the ball carrier during the play to complain about the no holding call. If he keeps his head in the play he's in perfect position to seal off McCoy's cutting lane to the right.

Basically if he keeps his head in the game McCoy doesn't score there. As frustrating as getting held is, he's gotta wait until after the whistle to complain about that.

I love the guy, but this was a no no. I'm sure the coaches noticed this, and I hope someone delivers the message.

  3. The Bears and Packers are the next two "payback" victims

Unfortunately as things stand right now we wouldn't beat Green Bay. They have too many threats that are simply too fast, and Rodgers is lightning quick getting the ball out. Any type of soft zone against Green Bay and we're dead. We need to be able to play tight press coverage and the pass rush needs to bring it bigtime, which it hasn't been doing yet.

We can definitely take the Bears though. :)

  4. True...6 years...that's quite a tradition...makes the NY Yankees and their so-called "storied history" look irrelevant.

I don't get your point. I'm talking the team as it is today, and in recent memory with many of the players who are still on the team now.

If you want to talk historically, then yes as per profootballreference.com the Cowboys have the second best winning percentage of all time, and the Giants are tied with the 49ers for 8th. So the Cowboys have won more, but the Giants can more than hold their own.

Historically the Giants have a tradition as rich as any team not named the Packers, 49ers, Steelers and yes, the Cowboys.

That's all fine and dandy, but also irrelevant. I mention the last five years because well, it's the last five years and relevant to the character of the teams today.

The Giants never get any respect, and if you haven't noticed, that's really fine for most people on this board. I like it that way. Every year people underestimate us, and every year we're capable of making a push.

  5. I can't watch vid at work so I don't know if it's the same play, but there was one where Rolle made a perfect form tackle on McCoy in the backfield yet failed to bring him down. It was weird, like he was surprised he'd got him and forgot to hold on.

McCoy made a lot of people look silly this season though. He's a slippery son of a bitch.

That was a different play...the vid I posted was the Mccoy TD run...

I remember the play you're referring to though..I remember in the super slow-mo replay it was funny seeing Rolle's grip go from Mccoy's legs, to ankles, to shoes to......

  6. YES! That was the one, thanks Zelmo. And you're exactly right, absolutely no way Rolle makes that play. Rolle, a "pro bowler" couldn't even hold a stopped Mccoy in the backfield for a negative gain on a crucial 3rd down....

    No problem....

    Here's the play

  7. Rolle is so far the only one disappointing me on this defense. I thought Ross made a few nice plays last week, enough to show that he can still play, and ya, he got beat once or twice, but as someone said, nothing defends a perfect throw and Grossman had a couple of those. Then he came in and played amazing against the Eagles.

Kenny Phillips potentially saved a touchdown again this week coming in to lay a hit being the last guy....I can't remember the play, I'll try to find it.

Mccoy had busted free up the middle on a run...Phillips was the only thing standing between Mccoy and the endzone, and he took him down....Rolle doesn't make that play

  8. K I found examples of what I'm talking about

    In the Eagles game:

Reception 1 - 8:00 to go, 1st Quarter...1st and 10...Nicks catches a slant with about 5 yards to go for the first and instead of accelerating forward and to the leftish into some open space and the first down, he kind of folds into Asante Samuel approaching from the right.

Reception 2 - 11:37 to go, 4th Quarter....1st and 10 Manning finds Nicks with two yards to go, Namdi flails at Nicks and falls to the ground, completely missing the tackle, and then with one yard to go for the first Nicks again allows the lateral pursuit to engage instead of just quickly falling forward for the first.

    The Rams game-

1:22 to go in the first half...2nd and 6....Manning finds Nicks over the middle with three yards to go for the first and Nicks runs laterally and goes nowhere, leaving three yards to go.

There were a couple of other plays I didn't exactly like what he did, but they weren't obvious or for sure on him as opposed to just good spacing and tackling by the defense so I left them out.

It's not a major flaw, just a habit of his I don't like.

  9. Crazy. I'm not criticizing Nicks for anything. The guy is a beast, I don't know what you're seeing, Z... Nicks tentative?! He's as physical a receiver as they come and he is constantly breaking tackles or at least getting that extra yard or two as he's getting tackled. This game was not the game to judge him on. Eagles did a pretty good job of taking Nicks away as a factor.

It's something I noticed during the Carolina game last year when on a long pass Nicks scooted out of bounds at the 1 or 2 instead of making a play at the endzone. I have NFL game rewind I'll do a quick run through of Nick's catches this year and see if I can point it out.

  10. I haven't heard anything about an injury to Ballard, but they were checking him out very closely after his 15 yard catch. One of the eagles speared into his head and the eagle about had his head taken off as he was blown backwards almost out of his shoes and Ballard acted like it was nothing. But when he went to the sideline, the medics were all over him testing his head and Ballard seemed to be having a hard time holding his head up. I thought maybe he had a concussion or something.

I can't find anything on the net so just wondering if anyone had heard anything.

It looked to me like he got the wind knocked out of him.

  11. Did anyone understand the call here? The Giants had 11 guys on the field that you could see on TV, and Deon Grant wasn't one of them. The announcers said he was caught running off the field. But then wouldn't that be 12 men?

Doesn't really make a difference, but just wondering if anyone understood what happened there.

Did they actually mean to call the offsides on #94? (Who absolutely wasn't offsides btw!)

I thought the announcers were terrible this game.

  12. I was gonna bring this up. I love Hakeem Nicks, he's excellent, but he shows no aggression at all in getting upfield after the catch. He's very tentative and leaves many first downs out there on the field, short by a yard or two. It's frustrating. Not to sound too much like Madden, but he needs to make the catch and BOOM turn upfield.

  13. :clap::clap::clap:

Way to attack the Eagle's weaknesses...Just a beautiful gameplan....he got away from it a bit in the middle of the game but got back to it....

The Eagles DB's are overrated...oh don't get me wrong they're good...but way overrated...Namdi is great but he isn't even in the same universe as Revis, that's a stupid conversation....And Samuel? Another guy who's good, but a guy you were able to pass on five years ago even. (Trent Cole on the other hand, that guy is a freaking handful.)

    Huge win. Props all around.

  14. This defenae needs to have a consistent pass rush to have success bottom line. I think the complaints about Fewell's zone schemes are valid too. I have visions of Tim Lewis dancing in my head.

    This

You can't give QB's in the NFL the kind of time we've been giving.

Unless you have an absolutely stellar secondary, pass defense is a holistic system...and it all starts with the pass rush.

  15. League Issues Statement

It's ridiculous that the Giants are the ones getting thrown under the bus for this.

The truth is though that Grant and Williams, first of all shouldn't have gone down together, and second shouldn't have done such a lame job. Everyone does it, but once you make it that obvious people are gonna make a stink.

Best way to do it is probably to just not got up after a tackle, then you could just lie there and discuss the weather with the trainers for a minute, then be helped up and slowly walk off.
