Ha any attention grabbing headline will satisfy him. Atleast he is being semi positive.... kind of
I did say the 2007 SB may have been a fluke.......we seem to have hit a crossroads
I meant a fluke in terms of a 4-5 year run as a SB participant
We could not sustain our momentum last year.....if we do not regain it this year history will judge this era of the Giants as johnny one note
-
IF Plaxico is available, we draft an impact LBer, and Sheridan dials up an agressive D I think its possible. Pierce has become an unbearable liability on the field, especially in pass coverage.
We also need to see accuracy improvement from Eli, and some of those young WRs to step up.
Tuck and Osi must be 100%
If Danny Ware is as good in the regular season as he was in last pre-season (where I thought he looked like a #1) that would also help immensely.
I also think we need an experienced saavy vet at WR, not so much to play as to help coach the young guys on the sidelines. Ideally Toomer signs for a pay cut, and plays his last year as a Giant.
We are still a top 5 team, and from that starting point anything is possible. You can argue last years team got derailed by injuries but good team can overcome a few injuries........we didn't.

The title of the thread is "rings you don't see too often" not "rings you never have or never will see".
ohhhhhhh thats cold

I don't know where people are getting 3 months from. If anything, the speculation I heard from Sal Palaontonio on ESPN was starting at 5 months. Possibly up to a year.
I read that 80% of those in his situation just got probation, and perhaps community service (that alone could be a problem for Plaxico)......hes a first offender with no criminal intent (he shot himself)......these are routinely reduced to a lesser offense and no jail time despite Bloombergs campaign
-
True, he's bounced back in years past, but the older you get the harder it is to do such a thing. He is done.
I didn't care too much for his comments either. I thought he was pretty shitty considering he's been with us for so long.
But ofcourse it's all about the money with these guys. The players and the suits.
That wouldn't have been Coughlin's decision.
What exactly did Amani say anyway? I missed all that in my coma over our 4 losses in 5 games
-
I dont. I know I talk shit about DAL regardless, but seriously, this yr they're horrible. I called it last yr, that they wouldnt make the playoffs, and this yr its even more obvious. They lost their starting talented and game changing WR, they lost a HUGE presence on the Dline, and also in the secondary. The patched all that up, with an over the hill LB. Romo has already proven he chokes, what more proof do you need?
Dallas could easlily have beaten us the year we won the SB......it was a very tight game
Neither team is as good as they were 2 yrs ago.
Minus Burress, Mitchell, Wilson, Ward, Toomer......and a laundry list of others we are not as good right now as the SB team 15 months ago in my opinion
I hope Jerry drafts a LBer that can come right in and play......our Jerry, not Dallas's
-
Oh, till June. Yeah, that stinks. Hopefully June will come, and they will iron out some kind of probation or something. If that happens, then he just has the leagues suspension, verdad?
Bergen Record today calling for Giants to rid themselves of Burress
Their contention is he will only screw up again if this is dismissed.......I'm not happy about Burress attitude but come on this is entertainment, not a church service
Imagine if all public figures with a crime conviction were banned from the public eye......it would be a much smaller talent pool
As long as he is a free man, and complies with team rules, and performs on the field- I would like him to remain on the team
If he continues to defy team rules the fines should get stiff, very stiff.......ultimately he must be replaced unless he truly redeems himself. Right now we need his WR capability to compete at the highest level.
He is a very good WR, and very entertaining.
I can't forget Vince Lombardi's statement to a player who despite a $1000 fine broke curfew and slipped out at night.
Vince raised it to $5000 (a lot of money in 1960) and told the culprit that if he still wanted to slip out at that price, to call him and he would party with him. The guy was Max McGee who went on to win the MVP of the SB that year.
Personally, I would advise Burress to hire a couple of good body guards and not carry his own weapon if he feels that threatened.......or stay home. His gun handling capabilities (all legal issues aside) seem pretty weak....if someone did approach him Plaxico is more likely to shoot himself than anyone else.....the "Barney Fife" of gunslingers LOL
I have a feeling if we release Burress he will wind up in DC playing for the Skins.

I'd like to see the NFL Champs play the College All stars in the 1st pre-season game
at Canton Ohio
before the regular pre-season slate starts
Then go 18 regular games, and 3 pre season games ......
-
it wasnt a mistake letting wilson go for what we would have had to pay him
Ok granted Wilson got ridiculous money but as it worked out it was not the long term payoff he thought it would be
Mitchell signed for $5 million as I recall.......he was worth 5
-
Toomer is done Jack. He had plenty of opportunities to shine last year, and he was a ghost for most of it.
The fact we kept plugging him in and getting nothing back, didn't help the offense at all.
I'd take him back at vet-min and he would be resigned to depth.
I don't think so......Toomer like the rest of the Giants did not have their best year
Toomer has come back from the dead before. He brings a vet savvy that we really need in that young receiver corp
I heard the Giants would not bring him back due to comments he made after the Philly game......that ridiculous but typical Coughlin-esse
Coughy does his nice guy act unil he has a chance to ban you for good......then he is unforgiving

I was watching the SB run today on NFL network
Amani was a big reason for winning the Lombardi, especially in the Dallas game.
By the way Canty looked awesome in that game, as did "gulp" Strahan, and Mitchell.
Also Strahan was much bigger in 2007 than when he slimmed down to 250 for the ladies in 2005/6....Skinny Mike was horrible......... 270 lb Mike was a load and a terror
Canty is going to make Dallas much worse and us much better up the middle. He is very tall, and makes opposing QBs pass around him......hes also a sure tackler
Too bad we let Wilson and Mitchell go........big mistakes....they were pivotal that year.
I also heard the NFL thinks we will be vulnerable this year on D......they look at this as a learning year for Sheridan, and hope to out maneuver us while he learns to call plays
Mitchell was directing defensive allignments often in the Dallas game.....I never noticed that part of his contribution in the one too short year he was with us.....when you think about it Mitchell brought a lot to that 2007 team, and he played his best ball ever.....he might have known more than anyone on the Giants that year that was his one shot at a ring.
Mitchell, Wilson, Osi and Strahan brought a defensive physical presense we lacked in 2008. Kiwi is a fast player but a little slim in the waist.
My other observation was what a good QB Eli was down that stretch, and also Romo.......say what you want but Romo is a pro bowl QB, and not the reason Dallas can't get over the hump......its other factors that deny them glory
I fully expect Dallas to reload this year and give us fits
-
RBs? Really? RB is the safest pick you can take. You are full of it Jack.
Yes guys like Ron Dayne??? LOL
Rocky Thompson???
This guy might be the exception....I would take him- Darrius Heyward-Bey
Is he Ironhead's son? does anyone know?
-
I coulda SWORE it wasn't the last game that yr. Oh well, fuck Jack anyway.
Not only was it the last game
Poor Mark Gastineau graciously attended the game and was dumbfounded by the farce in the 59th minute
Mark was speechless, and embarrassed.....all caught on camera
the whole thing smelled
should have been taken away by whoever in the league approves these records
-
If anything college is more wide open, Jack... a lot more spread offenses, but it differs among the programs. But they are far more pass-happy offenses in college than say a program like Navy, which relies heavily on the run.
We have to get receiver right... the other needs are not as pressing.
I don think WR's,QBs and RBs are credible coming out of college
......you really cannot judge their college book of work to well
Joe Montana was drafted inthe 5th round, Johnny U in the 6th
Lineman and LBers are much easier to grade coming out........this is why a lot of teams do not like to get top 10 picks and trade down in the draft....they trade them away, or go for the beefier players
besides we need a LBer over any other position
Our mangement team will do the right thing.....they usually do
-
any WR in the draft is a krap shoot
they run the ball in college
its not the same game......
best we draft LB, OTin 1st and take care of WR RB in later rounds
we ned to draft 2 LBers, 2 WRs and a saftey
-
I didn't find that surprising at all. There isn't a receiver on the team that has Burress's size or skill set.
I did......the passing game was dreadful without Burress.......bad
-
i read that in the record this morning
i hope Osi is right
he admitted his information as hearsay evidence though
bloomberg has stated he wants to lock up Plaxico and throw away the key
who knows........whatever we needed him badly last year, and I for one was surprised no one could step up and fill his shoes
-
yeah jack i want more depth just not new starters, not yet
who said anything about the starters
I've been asking for Diehl at LT since Flinch had about 5 offsides before halftime one Monday night a ways back
people assured me Pettiflinch was our "best" OT Really good grief
if he was our best
how bad was our worst
to Lukes defense though he was being paid enormous money and had a terrible disk problem in his back......he played in a lot of pain
The Giants should have paid off his contract and sent him home
-
Let me correct you on a few things, even though I'm pretty sure you're just fuckin' with us, cause no one is this stupid.
You said a few posts back, that Warner had us at 5-0 before we pulled the plug. If Eli struggled the last half of the season, and half the season is 8 games, that leaves us at 13 games. Now, I know youre playin stupid right now, but you do know there are 16 games in a season, right? Warner had us at 5-2, then lost 2 straight, the last one I had the pleasure of watching in person because it was against AZ. Why the fuck did we throw with 14 seconds left to half, they ran it back for a fuckin TD!!!....anyway, enuff venting form something 5 years ago
The Eli came in, week 11 with 7 games left. He almost beat ATL for his first career win. He then got shellacked the next 3 games, vs. Philly, WASH and BAL. 3 of the top 5 D's that year and 2 of em were div opponents. He took those beatings and didn't flinch. Then came the PIT game, and thats when I knew we had something special. He nearly outplayed Ben and if not for a play where Amani got raped and no flag was thrown, the Giants win that one. He played well. As he did the final 2 games, a 1 point loss to the Bengals, and a win vs. DAL where he audibled at the line and sent Tiki over the goal line. He's been good at reding defenses from his rookie year.
So, your memory aint too good, cause Eli didnt struggle but a few of those games.
thanks for the trip down memory lane
admittedly mine is sputtering as I age
Eli's a good kid, a good QB, and knows how to keep his mouth shut
When you think about it Eli, Ben and Rivers were the best 3 to come out together in 40-50 years
I'd like to see Eli improve his spiral and accuracy this year.....He also tends to blow hot and cold.......hes still learning the position but doing well
-
my point was Kurt Warner was doing well
The giants should have waited a bit longer before pulling the plug
As I recall Eli was running for his life the second half of that season
-
ill let it go, i didnt bring it up but i have no problem letting it go.
no i was not one of those guys. i wanted eli thrown in earlier than he was. warner was makin me sick with his play in ny.
so not enough said since you are incorrect about what i thought
as of right now eli and warner are both good qb's. warner is throwing to fitz and boldin though in a dome. its hard to say.
we won with pegleg patrolling the middle which you said would NEVER happen
Wow you are so right i did say that
Apologies on that one.........Tuck was so strong that day we could have won with Britiney Spears at MLBer
I still think Rivers was the pick of that crop, but Eli aint so bad......hes actually good and has some rope to improve yet
as for Warner I think he had us at about at 5-0 before he had a bad game so the could rush wunderkind into the battle
-
weve got one of the best olines in the league
i dont want to change the starters soon
We do,and Deihl is just fine but we have no depth
We need O-line rotation like we have on the D line
-
we only drafted rivers because thats who san diego wanted in the trade
its widely known we would have drafted big ben if we stayed
face it, palmer sucked
Palmer is irrelevant now
let it go. Weren't you one of the guys jumping all over HOF QB Kurt Warner's bones as a NY Giants QB?
enough said about your QB picks
I would guess your now going to tell me Eli is better than Warner..... LOL......please save it...... HAHA LOL
Ben, Rivers, and Kurt all better QBs than Eli
who is decent, but not great.....we can win with Eli but it takes a tremendous supporting cast, and btw we even won with Pegleg patrolling the middle
so anything is possible if your team is that strong
-
He wasn't good enough to be in that spot in the first place. Just like people on here talking about Lorenzen (sorry Nas). These guys showed when they took the field that we had no chance to win with them. Palmer lasted 5 minutes in the league after he left us, Lorenzen is in AFL2, "competing" for a job.
So I'll tak that as a NO he was not given a fair shot in meaningful games
Dan Reeves once said you cannot evaluate an NFL QB until he has played 3-4 "meaningful games" in the NFL.
We'll never know how Jesse would have done.......so let it go
I have
the 3-4 sorry ax games Jessie played the giants played to lose......the funny part was Palmer almost won one of those games single handed and that must have really pixxed off Giants Management as they drove for Manning draft status
The sad part, as it was they had to trade away a ton to get Manning anyway and would have been better off to just keep Rivers who they drafted and traded
seriously what would you rather have had River and Merriman, plus all the other draft choices we gave up.....or Eli....
PLAX RELEASED
in New York Giants

This has Coughlin's thumbprints all over it
He pushed out Tiki, Toomer, Shockey, and now Burress......also refused to even consider bringing back Strahan when Osi went down
Coughlin has now gotten rid of anyone who had the audacity to speak back to him
He is THE KING........we'll see how the king does now that he has gotten all he asked for.
Bellicheck operates under pretty much the same atmosphere and thrives so we'll see......Bellicheck also has Brady
