Gagne going to the Sox improves an already pretty tough bullpen. I do not understand the Betamit deal though. Can someone fill me in on his numbers. I always though Cairo was a solid player. No he doesn't hit home runs but situationally he is terrific.
Cairo in 12 seasons - .267 BA with 290 RBIs
Betamit - 5 seasons - .263 BA with 102 RBIs
Cairo averaged 24 RBIs per year
Betamit averaged less than 21 so what's the big deal here?

Poor Bastard is struggling trying to get this over with. Brutal watching nearly everyone on the team hit a homer except him.
-
A-Rod isn't going anywhere. The Yankees are the only team that can afford his ass. And Procto sealed his deal the last 3-4 times he pitched. He stunk!!
I don't know much about Betamit but the young arms - Joba, Hughes and Kennedy prolly all will be brought up soon.

Lets face it guys ...we still need some more quality traffic on the SportsWrath boards !
I know the GMB has lots of quantity and very little quality with some awful posters and trolls ! .....but we need a bit more volume over here too ( IMO )
I probably dont get on here that much at peak times ( being 5 hours + ahead ) ...but we could do with about 20 more high quality , intelligent posters to enhace a more instant response on current topics
Having said that ...i think SportsWrath is great ( and even the trolls are worthy ! )
Thanks UK, I think we are getting a pretty good group of people on SW and since I post alot over on P&R there are some of my favorite liberals who post there too.
-
Welcome Blue and please tell your friends about SW. Mostly good solid people here and the few that are ranters well you can always put them on ignore. I have been to the Egirls site once or twice to talk trash but I figured out that all it takes is one bad game and they have your ass.
So now I just post here and since I am one of the oldest Giants fans on the board - I saw Tittle, HUff etc play back in the days when they practiced at Fordham U (my Alma Mater) in the Bronx in the early 60s. That was amazing to walk into the student union building and see all the Giants Players gathered around 6-7 tables for breakfast & lunch.

I worked in Chicago for 8 years and read alot about Mr. Jacobs at SIU. I said he's the real deal and a steal when we got him where we did. I hope he makes us forget all about Tiki.
Thanks for the post VG

Tells me pretty clearly there is a new sherriff in town. Get Strahan's attention. IMO

This is not the first time the Yanks have turned it on. They have shown that they are just as capable of being pretty bad. Like I said, they'll probably have to play this way until the season ends. Can they sustain this level of play for another two months? They've been too inconsistent to believe they can, but we'll see.
Also, they do have a game in hand... that 8-6 game against Baltimore that was suspended.
How will that work? I don't recall the circumstances.

It also couldn't hurt to see Boston have a few key injuries. Nothing serious but we have had so many people out injured nice to see it evened up.
-
Well, we need it all to happen first but I am a fan forever and as much as i have been frustrated with Torre many tiimes for not playing small ball, there is enough talent on this team to win as long as everyone gets and stays healthy.
-
Sorry Dog, but I mentioned this on another post. I always have a problem with people who refer to themselves in the third person. What's with that?
-
AS much as I admire Joe Torre's ability to keep calm, I now thinkn it's really because he is in a coma. Whe we have 1st & 2nd and nobody out and you don't have your 8 hitter try to lay down a bunt and instead hits into a DP, something is wrong.
I have never liked Torre as a Bench Manager. His use of the bullpen has been suspect for years. And for awhile Meyers was in the Bullpen as a lefty specialist and you don't bring him in to pitch to lefties, WTF?
This team has so much talent top to bottom and the last couple of days was better than batting practice. But and it's a BIG BUT other than Wang the starting pitching is going south. Mussina, sorry to say is close to done, Petite, not good and Clemens no longer has a heater that buckles knees.
The kid Igawa may turn out to be a 54 million dollar mistake - I hope not. Now if Hughes, Karstens and one more of the young arms can deliver. That kid Joba Chamberlin looks fantastic so where is he?
-
Sorry but that is such donkey dust. Ali though a great one was beaten by Ken Norton, Larry Holmes (Knocked him out) Leon Spinks & Trevor Berbick - Joe Frazier was a great one. But Spinks and Berbick?
Alli was 56-5-0 with 37 KOs
Rocky Marciano who gets my vote was 49-0 with 43 KOs.

Thanks MMSFH

interesting...because it appears you respond whereever the Dog is, and most recently, when the Dog hasn;t been engaging you in a discussion...weird...
I don't know you Hotdog but anyone who refers to himself in the third person has issues. Sorry.

that is dominating the minor leagues even more than Phil Hughes did?
Joba- 69 strike outs in 34 innings...thats fucking insane.
Who is he? Where is he playing? 2 per inning is amazing.

Gifford, the Baby Bulls.

Seph, let them doubt. It'll be that much sweeter when Jacobs makes them all look retarded.
Seph, remember I worked in Chicago and read alot about Jacobs while he played for SIU. He averaged 6.7 ypc for his entire collegiate career including his time at Auburn. What many forget about him is he can run. 4.4 or something like that. So when he gets a crease he will go a long way.
-
Who goes and who stays? I think Joe Girardi tipped his hand when he didn't take the job. So Torre is gone. How about the players. Does A-Rod stay? I say he goes to the highest bidder which may still be the Yanks if they don't make the playoffs which is strating to seem like a far distant dream at this point.
Now as a fan for 55 years plus I never give up hope but it is still looking tougher & tougher.

I believe this is the year that Eli demonstrates his leadership and his ability. No more Tiki so the passing game must improve. I was against what we traded to get him and if he doesn't improve then it will have been a very bad deal IMMHO.
-
I have a distinct advantage posting today but yes barring anymore injuries they make th playoffs and with a little luck they take the division. They were like 14 1/2 games out 2 weeks ago and now its down to 8 1/2. Plenty of games left.

No...But he is one of many Giants fans who have fallen into Ike's Jedi mind tricks in believing that Ike was a good WR. I'm sorry, but Ike was not very productive.
Was Ike dominating? Hell no. Sure, He'll have one, maybe two (if we're lucky) 100 yard game in a season. I'll always wonder why people consider Ike to have good hands. He was always among the leader of drop balls, even though he spend most of the season on the IR list.
My favorite quote among Giants fans "Ike was fearless going over the middle." Are we sure about that? Because I do recall him having a bad case of Alligator arms through out his career. Which probably lead to all those drop balls...(Enter Jedi mind trick: Ike was never among the leaders in drop balls. He was fearless over the middle and had great hands. He had 4.20 speed)
All you have to do is see the catch he made in the SB over the middle and drove 2-3 guys 4-5 yards to get a first down.

We added a new Navigation bar to the forum. Hopefully this will make it easier to travel from forum to forum.
Nice job, Nem. Well done. Keep up the good work. You have a really fun (for me at least) site. I have made friends (& I suppose a few enemies) here although most of the guys I disagree with I still have respect for their opinions. Even though they are mostly wrong.

Who was saying Betamit would take A-Rod's place. You've got to be kidding me.
A-Rod who is the ONLY player to hit 35 or more homers and have over 100 RBIs in 10 staright years being replaced by a back up? Please. Cairo still looks better although he is several years older.
Cairo in 12 seasons - .267 BA with 290 RBIs
Betamit - 5 seasons - .263 BA with 102 RBIs
Cairo averaged 24 RBIs per year
Betamit averaged less than 21 so what's the big deal here?
And you would put Betamit for A-Rod? Give me a break.
