  1. Well, I'll tell ya, picking up Grandy would make Damon obsolete in a hurry. I don't know if he's a smart a player as Damon, or as clutch, but that short porch in right will draw him headlines. Plus, Damon's defensive skill have been crap lately. I hate to give up Ajax, though. Call me sentimental, but I'd like to see our players come up from down under. Kennedy I'm not sure about. We can live without Coke, and I'd pay someone to take Dunn.

  2. is he going to be in the pen or starting next year? to me its just a shame to see two young guys (the other being Joba ) with immense talent and just be Relief pitchers

I agree completely. Concerning Hughes, it seems his degree of success depends on arm strength, and I don’t know how else you can get that without pitching till all those little muscles in your body are near exhaustion, or maybe roids. I wouldn’t have put him in the pen to begin with. He was just starting to come on when he was put out there to make room for Wang when Wang wasn’t doing too bad out there himself. His sinker was working lights out. No one can predict, but it’s possible Wang would have stayed healthy if he did stay out there.

As far as Joba goes, I’m not sure he has the mentality to be either a closer or a set up guy. Although he was able to work out of few jams of his own making. He was pitching well in the first half of the season, so who knows what went wrong, Joba rules, lack of maturity, or what.

I just hope we don’t trade either of these guys for a 32 yr old pitcher, especially if we have to throw in Moreno and Jackson.

  3. the dog sees tyree's potential role as multi-faceted. it would be a big job, because he would also have to teach the 265 pound "beast" to actually run like a professional RB instead of catching a screen pass in the open field and tip-toeing around the field like he is wearing high heels.

Ordinarily, talk like this from an outsider would piss me off, but I think the dog is right on this one. Jacobs=no mas. The guy needs to grow a set and realize he has to fight for a yd or two, even if there isn't any holes opened up for him.

  4. They definitely tried the Hedgecock on 3rd and Short before...it didn't work and the coaches were ridiculed by everyone from announcers to everyone on this board.

I don't remember it, but I'll go with that.

We have a finesse offensive line...not a big, mean, physical one...that's why we historically can't gain a yard on 3rd and short.

    Yep!

But btw, Eli Manning is having an exponentially better season than even last year. If he continues to produce as he has been, he's on pace for career highs in just about every statistical category.

According to his rating, yeah. 92 vs 86 last year. He just seems to be rushing his throws or dumping them too early, and he's not using the pocket like he used to.

Btw, I think Phillips being out has a lot of our defensive problems.

  5. If Eli were playing at his pre-2007 level, this team is 2-8.

If he'd played at the level he did last year, we might be 8-2, even with our shitty defense. I don't know whether it's him or the rookie receivers running the wrong routes, or both. We also still can't consistently punch out a 1 or 2 yd gain when needed, either.

That's another thing. Why don't they ever give Hedge the ball on short yardage. If anything, it would show their defenses that he's an option.

  6. I know I'm a tad late to the party, but I thought we had a Yankees section mod. How the fuck do we let Blu get jumped by someone with 143 posts? I'm a Yankees fan through and through and have been since I popped out of the womb, but Blu is a righteous dude. Maybe if others were here more, they'd see that. Oh well, guess this doesn't get seen until next spring. Sorry Blu.

Blu is still mad because before the Yankees bought the Babe, the Giants owned NY. :smartass:

  7. Unless Pettitte retires, I don't see a need for another starter. Don't forget, we also have Wang, and that makes him, Joba and Hughes vying for two starting spots. And, we can also put together a package to lure Halliday away from the Jays if their new GM is up for it.

As far as M. Holliday and Bay go, they will be expensive. In fact, the Mets will be crazy if they don't go all out for both of them.

  8. I disagree somewhat. Matsui was healthy this year and he's a very good DH - and not only against right handers as he hits the snot out of left handers as well (maybe better), which makes for an excellent DH.

I agree we need youngsters coming up through the ranks, but more than anything, we need to solidify the back end of the pitching rotation. And as much as I love Rivera, we need to be finding a young guy for the future closer. I think Mo can do it for another couple of years, but at 40 years old, his future will be on the downside.

So it would be nice to pick up a stud young outfielder or two, but that is not where we are weakest and vulnerable. We need top notch pitching to keep up the caliber of team that wins the whole enchilada. Pitching, pitching, and more pitching.

It makes it more of a dilemma since we also have an aging catcher and SS. You don't want to take either of those bats out of he line up, and although Jeter's holding up now, who knows about next year. The Yanks might be able to squeeze in either Matsui or Damon, but not both.

I totally agree about the pitching. As far as replacing Mo, that's not going to happen, at least not in my lifetime. The guy is unflappable, and it's amazing how often he hits the target a catcher gives him. Until we find someone close, we'll probably have to go by committee.

  9. It could be that pitchers, especially hard throwers, lose that extra pop on their fast ball without putting noticeably more effort into it. Then his location has to be near perfect. Just saying.

Hopefully, that won't matter with Pettitte tonight since he relies on junk and finesse. Anyway, put me down as being against the 3 man rotation.

  10. Bill Arnsparger/Rod Rust coached team when I see one

The Maras have pulled a fast one obviously to boost fan interest and brought those two back as consultants.

What's this about Arnsparger as a consultant? I didn't know he was still alive. The guy was a defensive genius, just not a good head coach.

  11. If we match CC with Lee and Pettitte with Hamels, AJ and Gaudin should be able to take care of the rest. And also don't try to throw too many high fast ones like the last time. Fuckers were hitting them out on pitches they had no business swinging at.
