One day Girardi takes him out when he should have left him in. Then another day, he leaves him in when he should have taken him out. I agree: F*&^ S^%@ C@CK SU@%$!!
-
I don't know. It sure seemed sudden to me, just like with Sax and Knobby. I remember Clark as one of our better players of the era, and he was what, a .260 hitter? But he was a rally starter who could steal a few bases.
I agree about Stots though. Would have been HOF on another team.
-
Oh yeah....I thought he was going to the big stud to carry the Yanks for a few years and he vanished just as quickly as he had gotten hot. Talk about vanishing.....one day, Chuck Knoblauch rolled out of bed and forgot how to throw a ball. Geesh, I watched him actually run the ball over and hand it to the first baseman because he was afraid to throw it. Anyone with seats along the first base line had to really be on their toes because Knobby would likely hit you in the face with an errant throw. They called it the Steve Sax syndrome.
Never seen anything like it in my life.Horace Clark? He started it. I wonder if they all used the same locker.

Giants hitting coach now
Then he's still a bust.

I don't understand. You're saying you can DH those players and thats why NJ is hurting the team, but NJ is a hell of a lot better than Pena or Cervelli, who you'd have to play in the field at that point.
First of all, no one's better than Cervelli at this point. He's been super clutch, and the pitchers love him. Second, although you don't want to lose Jeter's, Arod's or Posada's bats from the line up, they are over the hill age wise. They can no longer take the grind every day. Posada particularly is becoming a hindrance behind the plate. You can also rest some of the younger guys, too, since they're more apt to break down mentally.
-
Nick was not hurting the team. He got on base 38 percent of the time in the number 2 hole... I'd like to see Miranda or anyone else who replaces him do that.
He's hurting the team when you can DH Arod, Jeter, or Posada, all of which (whom) have high OBP's and can play a position without breaking.
I swear, if George was younger, Cashman would have a size nine footprint on his ass for the deals he pulled off this winter.
-
Seattle. He covers ground, played an excellent right field in SF, toughest right field in the majors- but he has a noodle arm.
Worse than Fenway?
-
How's Randy Winn doing?
Not too bad. Kind of an automatic out, but he hit a big homer the other day. He's not as good a fielder as I remember from when he played for whoever.
-
Since he's still proving he's made of glass, it's time to cut him loose. We have Miranda rotting away in SWB and is well capable of filling in for Tex. That DH spot should be reserved for our old guys, anyway.
Another thing, get someone up here who can spell Gardy once in awhile. That dude comes up lame, we're f'ked.
Might want to put Posada on the DL and bring up Romine. I don't care how young Cervelli is. Playing the same catcher every day is asking for trouble.
-
Cervelli is a brash kid that seems to thrive in clutch situations, not unlike Thurmon Munson. Only difference so far is, Munson tore up the minors.
Montero is slated to be a slugger, but is rough defensively, not unlike Yogi Berra at that age.
Romine is ready now, which shows how much it sucks to be a Yankee minor leaguer. The fact that he's tearing up AA ball is probably driving Cashman nuts.
-
Cervelli, Romine, Montero= dilemma.
-
This one's gotta hurt. I know he wasn't hitting, but I like the way our OF as a whole was playing with him out there.
-
He looks absolutely lost out there right now. And his next scheduled start is game one of a series up at Fenway. Thank god there is an off day beforehand that Girardi can use to skip his spot.
Oh and speaking of Girardi WAY TO WALK A GUY TO GET THE "TOUGH" LEFTY THAT MARTE CAN GET OUT!!!!!
The problem is, Hughes is on a pitch count. He can use Mitre to maybe give us 4 or 5 good innings. And, Marte? I don't care if he was good in the play offs. He otherwise sucks.
-
The Mets hit first place and still no response. WTF!
-
If Girardi has any compassion, he'd remove him from the rotation NOW, before his next start. Just sayin'.
-
Some of those missed calls were shoddy glove work.
-
see, like I said, it was one game..just happened to be the first game of the year in which he blew...Im sure last nights performance is much more indicative of the CHOP the relief pitcher.
He's an idiot! Seen on TV doing high kicks the day before he went on the DL with a hammy.

Dealing Lee had less to do with money and a lot more to do with an effort to replenish the Phils farm system. Although I think I would have rather just seen them blow their load and go for the gusto the next few years by giving both Lee and Werth (who will probably walk after this season) contracts, I understand the decision from their perspective.
It'll be a sin if they don't sign Werth. He may not have super star status, but he's way better than an average player that make things work. Sort of like a Paul O'Neil.
What gets me about the Phills is they have a tremendous fan base on both sides of the Delaware. And, if you don't mind me making a pun, you people really are fanatics (Obnoxious, too, when you're winning ). But you need to win to keep selling those tickets. Why not spend the money to extend their first ever dynasty?

Joe West is right on. While I agree with Lubeck that going deep into the count is a big reason these teams are consistently great (the other big reason is $$), the posturing and staring is ridiculous.
I've said it for the last 2 year. I record those games because I still like to watch them but with the fast forward button firmly in my grasp.
However, since players and managers are not allowed to bitch about umps without reprisal, the reverse should also be true.
I still miss Earl Weaver and Billy Martin. What I'll never miss would be freaking mandatory replays if they ever pass it.

Used to be a landfill.
I think it used to be called the marsh lands when i was little. There had to be some reason the area wasn't developed for so long.

they are afraid of ATT park, i guess. i know holliday is- bay i'm not sure. seems citi is just as vast.
Citi has all that heavy swamp air, too. I didn't know ATT was hard to hit 'em out.
-
hey ditto- what hitting should the giants have bought?
I don't know. Bay? Holiday? I'm sure there were others out there.

AL East
Yanks- Catching and OF concerns, but pitching pretty damn good on paper.
Sox- helped themselves too much with Lackey. Hernandez will be harder to keep in the line up without benching Veritak.
Rays-Come back team, but not enough
O's- pitching?
Jays- pitching?
AL Central
Twins
Tigers
Indians
WSox
AL West
M's- Pitching
Rangers- Young guys more experienced. Could easily flip with M's and surprise everyone.
Angels- Lost too much even for Scoscia. Figs, Vlad, Lackey, Jr.
A's???
Wild card- RSox
NL East
Phillies- Cheap bastards should have kept Lee. Assholes
Mets- All the bad luck they had last year could mean they're set for the decade. Cheap bastards should have spent more on OF. Assholes2
Braves- Bobby Cox
Marlins-
Wash-
NL Central
Cards
NL West
Dodgers
Giants- Cheap bastards should have bought some hitting. Assholes3
Wild Card- Mets
WS- Yanks>Cards

day late ditto...hoffman was cut and the dodgers grabbed him back...Thames made the team and will be used against left handers(even though he is a terrible outfielder). But Im not complaining about a 5th outfielder. I dont think Thames will see much playing time after April
Yep! I saw that on the game yesterday.
I'm not sure I'd like to keep Thames, though. I know he has some power, and they're saying he can hit lefties, but it sucked watching him not run out fly balls this spring.

Did Girardi pull him after that botched fly ball? This was after he nearly cost us the game the nignt before when he went up the fence five feet from where the ball hit off Jason Bay's bat. Seriously, the guy's a hazard out there. I wondered all year how Girardi can replace Swisher with him for defense in late innings. He might have been good once, but he's a total joke now. He's got nothing on Mel Hall.
