  1. Bengie Molina does suck... Maybe he's better than Brian Schneider, but whats that really saying? Molina has some pop, but he barely gets on base... And you need hitters to get on base for them to be considered good (at least in my opinion, and in the opinion of most who study the game). OBP and OPS are infinitely more valuable in judging players than batting average is, and Molina's are among the worst in the league for starting players. Jesus, I haven't looked at his offensive performance in a long, long time, but they are just god-awful... Good, or even mediocre hitters don't fail to get on base 30 percent of the time, its just not done... Thats not adequate even for a catcher.

I liked him when he was with the Angels. I even rated him above Varitek as the best in the AL. I wouldn't worry about the low OBP. That's not what he's about. Think pitching. And as Blu says, he's clutch. Who would know better than someone who sees him every day? Besides, Blu likes him even though he doesn't believe a catcher can make a difference with a pitching staff.

  2. I dont love Bay, but the Mets had to sign him...as far as Bengie Molina, why do they want him? Im going to go right ahead and say it..Bengie Molina is the worst player (who starts) in baseball.

Ollie, Maine, and Pelfrey. If Molina can help just two of them to turn it around, he'd be the best catcher for the Mets since Gary Carter.

  3. Once the Giants are out of it, I usually pull for the NFC east teams, especially the Cowboys because me and those cheerleaders go way back.in my fantasy world. Then again, since they rarely show the cheerleaders anymore, I may pull for the Eagles since they are closer, and a lot of my friends are Eagle fans.

Then again, my son in law is a Colt fan, so...

  4. I can't see where the networks have any leverage at all since they have to sell the ads. It doesn't matter though because in the end, we will pay, and it won't matter if it's DTV, Fios, or whatever.

  5. Right now if I was Reese...I do not even wait for Cheerleader...I would sit down with videos of the 4 forty point plus losses and review every play over the next week and look at effort, technique and heart. Anyone who failed 2 of these or even one consistently would have an X marked off on his chart...and out the fucking door you go. Immediately right now Rocky Bernard would be stripped of his playbook, uniform, helmet and whatever else he stole from the Giants this year and told to get the fuck out. Eat his salary and know better for the next time.

There are about 10 other guys that deserve immediate dismissal...not including coaches. Sheridan Gone....Gilfuck gone as far as I am concerned....but whatever....the ultimate Cheerleader ...gone..kick up stairs...put him in an office next to Reese...include him on all the meetings...the guy deserves it...but the game has passed him by. Bring in a Cowher or Shannahan...once that was accomplished Gilfuck would be kicked the fuck out anyway. Definitely not going to happen especially with the coaches except for Sheridan.

I would start with that pussy Jacobs.

  6. Ok, let me rephrase that.. athletes do stretch.. but not enough. I only knew the value of stretching after my 3rd pulled hammy.. and by then i was in my late 20s. So my point stands.

I don't know, Nas. Maybe they're overdoing it with the weight room and everything. I didn't pull a hammy until I was in my 50's, and I did it by....stretching.

  7. I’ve been reading some stuff from Bob Neyer about how great a glove Rolen is, never mentioning Lowell. Was he really better than Lowell, because I didn’t see that when they both played in the AL. I thought Lowell was better, and by more than just a little bit.

  8. thats not true at all...Vaz was 10-5 with an ERA barely over 3 for his first 3 1/2 months as a yankees. He hurt his shoulder and had a really bad case of pink eye and should have sat, but Torre kept running him out there becuase Brown and Mussina were hurt. He is a solid pitcher, not an ace, but a solid pitcher and he is being asked to be the yankees 4th starter not their ace. Name another team that has a 4th starter that will give them 200

innings and 200+ strike outs. This deal is awful.

I don't remember a sore arm, but I do the pink eye and the fact that he became unglued after a couple of losses mid season. Come to think of it, it might have taken Posada that long to turn him into a basket case.

  9. Vasquez didn't have the fortitude to pitch in NY before. Did he suddenly grow a set? This trade is like the old days when we acquired Whitson and that other putz from the NL in the 80's after one decent season.

I'm glad to see Dunn go, but I'll miss Melky's defense.

  10. Not Bay AND Holliday, just one of the two. They are both LFers. I prefer Bay, because I think he has the bigger bat. But I would love for the Mets to sign him and Lackey, although both might be a pipe dream. If they could do it, though, they would re-energize the fan base.

Well, that settles it. Lackey's going to the Sox.

I don't understand Happ and Blanton going to the Jays for Halladay, and they are now trying to trade Lee to Seattle. Where's the gain?

If I were the Mets, I would try to sign both Bay and Holliday. It would give them a solid OF with potent line up. I realize Bay's asking price is inflationary, though, so I can understand if the Mets reluctance to pull it off.

  11. Actually....because Hoffmann is a Rule 5 draftee, he has to make the 25-man team or he goes back to the Dodgers. He's a great defensive outfielder and a decent right handed bat. I see him platooning with Granderson who hits great against right handers, but sucks against left handers.

I see the left fielder being Melky, Gardner, and Damon (who will sign). To me, that means Melky or Gardner are more likely to be shipped.

Also, I think the Yankees would part with Joba before parting with Hughes, but I don't know. Montero is a given. Perhaps Montero, Melky (or Gardner), and a pitching prospect other than Hughes or Joba will work to pry Halladay over to the good guy's side. :D

Why would you opt to keep Hoffman over Melky or Gardner when he hasn't even proved he could hit ML pitching? And why are you so anxious to give up our young pitchers when Boston isn't willing to give up Bucholz?

  12. In Boston, he's worth the most. although a man of your advanced years should know that you don't measure a player by the size of his contract. Put him in new Shea and his power numbers and average will drop. I'm not saying he's bad, maybe 25 to 30th best hitter.

What ever happened to our buddy, Donny, alias Herculesthong, alias Admiral Awful, alias etc., etc.? He’d straighten you out.

  13. Too much is made of this by our thick-headed organization. It's the pitchers' job to execute the pitches well. At any time those pitchers can shake off a pitch. Either way, if our pitchers just pitched better, hit their spots and had the consistent velocity that some of them were supposed to have and didn't, I'm pretty sure nobody would question the catchers game-calling. Get me a catcher that can receive the ball, has good fundamentals, can throw out a fair percentage of base stealers, and CAN HIT!

That's an argument for the ages, Jim. I know they say a catcher's gear are the tools of ignorance, but the theory is that most pitchers have delicate psychs, and easily become flustered or whatever. You could have seen that in the first half of last season when the Yes channel was flashing the Yanks pitching stats when Posada was behind the plate vs the other catchers. The difference was enormous and pretty pathetic for Posada vs Cervelli and Cash.

Not to change the subject, I hear the Mets have just started showing interest in Bay. I really think the Mets can afford, and should try to sign Bay, Holliday, and Lackey to get back in contention with the Phills. If they hurry and sign one, it might help lure the other two.

  14. Since we signed Pettitte, I see no reason to trade Montero. He's not a major league ready catcher now, but from I read, he's improving both defensively and his throwing out runners. Let's not make the same mistake the old Cardinals made in turning down Yogi because he was a pretty pathetic catcher at that stage.

  15. My first thought about the trade was that we lost out on Halladay because AJ would've been necessary to pry him away from Toronto.

But the more I think about this trade, the more I think that ultimately, the Yanks plan on trading Melky. I think we'll see Gardner platooned with Granderson. Melky might play left field, but I wouldn't be surprised if Damon ends up re-signing and the Yanks pick up DeRosa to be the regular left fielder that gets platooned with Johnny.

Melky has high value in trade and I'm not sure the Yankee's brass are all that thrilled with him.

We might see a Hughes or Joba combined with Melky, and Montero shipped to Toronto to lift Halladay.

Anyway....just speculating here. I think Melky is more likely to be gone than Damon by the time the dust settles.

My gawd, man! Tone it down a little! Hughes or Joba combined with Melky, and Montero? Or maybe you want to throw in Cano to cement the deal. Hey, I like Halladay, too, but we hold the upper hand in this, not Toronto. And if Pettitte signs, we won't even need him. Besides, save some for the other guys. If we don't have any competition, it becomes one long boring season.

On the other hand, I agree with you about Melky being on the trading block, but only if we can sign Bay or Holiday. Even if we do sign Damon, he has leg issues, and if, or more probably when he goes down, it would leave us with only Grandy, Gardner, and Swisher. Melky might be a little bit of a let down, but at least he shows up every day. He's like a bulldog.
