  1. Yanks signed Marcus Thames today. I like the signing better than Winn. Should put a little competition back into the mix at Spring training.

I like Thames. I remember when he came up through the Yankee farm system and started playing with the big team. I thought he had a lot of promise and poof, the Yanks traded him away.

Rumors of Damon coming back seem pretty far fetched after the signing the Yanks have made with outfielders.

Thames isn't showing the hustle he had the first time we had him, so I think he's a goner. I still don't think Winn will be happy as a 4th outfielder. And, Hoffman? I doubt he'll be on the roster if we get to keep him.

  2. 1. Jeter

    2. Nick Johnson

    3. Tex

    4. Arod

    5. Posada

    6. Cano

    7. Gunderson

    8. Swisher

    9. Gardner

I would personally switch Tex and Arod, but I doubt Joe is listening. Arod has a higher OPB and it would take him out of the pressure situation.

When Posada's out, move Swish up and put Cervelli at #8.

Nick Johnson in the 2 hole has a high OPB and should be good for 15 homers or more in this stadium.

I think Winn will be unhappy sitting on the bench and would be used as trade bait.

One thing I'd like to suggest. Bat Arod 3rd since he hits for a higher average, and it will be better protection for him than Posada or Cano.

  3. For many years the Giants had adequate (at best) receivers. Mostly to match our barely adequate QB's. Toomer was a big upgrade over status quo.

Then, Burress came along and I saw how having that stud guy opens up the whole offense even if he doesn't catch a pass.

If we put Marshall out there, it will instantly make the OL better, the running game better, and the QB better. Manning would win MVP. The Defense will take a while to fix and this is an offensive league right now.

This is a move that will pay off immediately.

It's shit like this that me me proud to know Blunatic. That some kinda forward thinking, old timer.

The only thing is, I'd rather work on the defense.

  4. I don't think that's a serious ailment. It's kind of a take a pill and live with it thing.

It says an over active thyroid. If he takes a pill for that, he'll gain weight. Then the speed suffers.

  6. Bud Selig to be honored with statue

    Comment Email Print ShareAssociated Press

MILWAUKEE -- The Milwaukee Brewers are erecting a statue of baseball commissioner Bud Selig outside Miller Park and will unveil it on Aug. 24.

    Selig

Selig headed a group that bought the Seattle Pilots in bankruptcy court in 1970, moved the franchise to Milwaukee and renamed it the Brewers. He became acting commissioner in 1992 and took the job full-time six years later, turning control of the team over to his daughter, Wendy Selig-Prieb. The Selig family sold the team to a group headed by Mark Attanasio in 2005.

"The Brewers and Miller Park are in this city because of the commissioner's vision and dedicated efforts," Attanasio said Monday.

Selig's foundation donated statues of Hank Aaron and Robin Yount that were unveiled when Miller Park opened in 2001. Selig's statue, which will be more than 7 feet tall, will be built by the same designer, Brian Maughan.

I say it should be a big syringe with a blindfold.

7', huh? NY ought to build a statue for George to rival the Colossus of Rhodes.

But that's a good one about the syringe.

  7. who are just Spanish speaking Haitians who play baseball instead of soccer (football).... :smartass:

    Don't those muffers speak French?

What you guys really need to consider is whether the baseball plant was damaged as that is where (Haiti) the majority of baseballs are manufacturered. ....ironic ain't it. :P

You mean they work cheaper than the Chinese?

  8. well- waddaya know- bengie's coming home.

    A potential Met target is off the market. Free agent catcher Bengie Molina has agreed to a one-year contract with the Giants, the Daily News has confirmed. Molina will make $4.5 million, according to CBS 5 Sports in San Francisco, which first reported the news.<br style="padding-top: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; "><br style="padding-top: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; ">Read more:http://www.nydailynews.com/blogs/mets/2010/01/molina-a-giant.html?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+nydnrss%2Fblogs%2Fmets+%28Blogs%2FSurfing+the+Mets%29#ixzz0d6ld8mVh

    NEW YORK (AP)

Female admirers of Yankees most eligible bachelor Derek Jeter could be cheering a World Series victory in November — then mourning his marriage a few days later.

Minka Kelly appears to have scored a big victory -- getting Derek Jeter to settle down.

    Askmen.com

The New York Post reports Sunday that the star shortstop of the World Series champions and girlfriend Minka Kelly have a date to be married — Nov. 5 on Long Island. Acting on a tip, a reporter posing as a bride-to-be spotted an entry reading "JETER wedding" on the calendar for the Oheka Castle in Huntington, N.Y. Sales manager Rick Bellando insisted that a celebrity wouldn't be listed under his real name when the reporter pointed it out.

"Oh, that's not Derek Jeter. We wouldn't use his real name if it were," he said according to the Post. "When the Jonas brother got married here last month, we used a different name."

The Oheka Castle is the second-largest private residence in the United States and recently hosted the wedding of one of the Jonas Brothers.

Jeter, 35, has previously rounded the bases with a bevy of beautiful starlets, including singer Mariah Carey, actresses Jessica Alba and Jessica Biel, model/talk show host Tyra Banks, Victoria's Secret model Adriana Lima and Miss Universe 2000 Lara Dutta.

Kelly, an actress, starred in the TV series "Friday Night Lights" and appeared in the movie "(500) Days of Summer."

Ordinarily, marriage extends a guys life, but she might kill him.

  10. ditto, you old goat -i didn't make that up it's a long standing baseball term- almost older than you even.

and how you get that i don't think catchers affect the pitching staff from that is a long strange trip. please don't put words in my mouth.

I'm sorry if you're offended. I was just putting 2 and 2 together. In fact, since I considered you a true student of the game, I was shocked that you said it.

I don't know if it is older than me, but you're right, it is old.

  11. did i say that?

What? That he's clutch? Yes, you did. That you liked him? No, but you insinuated it. That you don't believe a catcher can make a difference with a pitching staff? Well, you once called catching gear the tools of ignorance, so yeah.

  12. I am thinking about going Fios myself....the satellite networks still have problems with bad weather don't they?

When I had cable, I rarely had a down time, but neighborhoods around me did using the same company. The thing is, when cable goes out, it stays out for hours or longer sometimes. When satellite goes out, it's only for a few minutes during an electric storm.

Fios would probably be a nice option, but Verizon hasn't laid their fiber optics here, and they probably never would. I doubt they even know we're here. In fact, I doubt God knows we're here. I have to travel 20 miles just to get decent Italian bread.
