  1. I think there is going to be a rotation between Tuck and Strahan. I also believe Tuck will start and get the majority of play time.

Definitely and I don't think Strahan will care much. Considering he held out all of pre-season I am sure he actually wants to ride pine while somebody else plays.

  2.

For the link challenged (so far):

    CUT

    *S Will Demps

    *QB Tim Hasselbeck

    *K Josh Huston

    *CB E.J. Underwood

    *CB Gerrick McPhearson

    *DT Jonas Seawright

    *OL Todd Londot

    *S J.R. Reed

    *WR Brandon London

    *DT Tui Alailefaleula

    *T Jon Dunn

    *TE Charles Davis

    *WR Kevin McMahan

    *DE Marquies Gunn

    *OL Ryan Keenan

*Justin Jones (Not confirmed by his agent but a source said he's been waived)

*C/G Matt Lentz (Also not confirmed by his agent but a source said he's been waived)

(Some of these players might resurface on the practice squad. I'd expect Underwood to definitely be there if he's not snatched up by another team. London is another possibility.)

BUBBLE GUYS LIKELY ON THE ROSTER

    *QB Anthony Wright

    *RB Ryan Grant

    *S Craig Dahl

    *CB Kevin Dockery

    *K Lawrence Tynes

    *DT Manny Wright

    *OL Grey Ruegamer

    *FB Robert Douglas

I guess the legend of Seawright is over and Demps should have been kept for depth. This team drops like flies especially on D so if he isn't picked up then he will probably be back mid-season. :brooding: No real surprises though and Hasselbeck should have dropped a while ago.

  3. As a surprise to no one Strahan is not retiring.

Agent says Strahan will play for Giants, fine will be reduced

    And for the link challanged:

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- Seven-time Pro Bowl defensive end Michael Strahan has decided to end his holdout and return for a 15th NFL season with the New York Giants.

"He went with his heart instead of his head," Tony Agnone, his agent, said in a telephone interview with The Associated Press on Friday evening. "He felt at this point he was part of the team, and he was going to go to battle with them."

The decision came a day before the Giants had to cut their roster to the 53-man limit and a little more than a week before the season opener at Dallas.

"He knows he'll be ready to go," Agnone said of playing in the season opener. "He's been working out like crazy."

Strahan left the West Coast on Friday and planned to be at Giants Stadium on Monday when the team begins preparing for the Cowboys. He will have four practices before the game.

And Strahan might play more than the 2007 season.

"This does not mean at the end of the year that he is going to retire," Agnone said. "He is going to sit down again in March like he always does, and he said: 'I won't be doing this next year.'"

Agnone said Strahan informed Giants general manager Jerry Reese of his decision to play around 5 p.m. ET. Agnone would not say when Strahan made up his mind, but he added the NFL's single-season sack leader did not want to keep the team hanging.

Strahan, 35, missed 36 days of training camp and amassed a $514,368 fine.

Agnone said the Giants agreed to reduce the fine total, but Strahan still will pay a "significant amount of money."

Giants spokesman Pat Hanlon said the team had no immediate comment, and Reese did not return an e-mail seeking comment.

The announcement of Strahan's decision came just hours after a frustrated coach Tom Coughlin said he was taking the approach that Strahan would not play this season.

Coughlin seemed upset that Strahan still was mulling whether he would play more than five weeks after training camp opened. He also was annoyed that Strahan's absence made it tough to make final roster decisions and to pick a practice squad.

Third-year-man Justin Tuck has started at left end in the preseason, and he has played well.

Strahan, who is to make $4 million this season, had mulled retirement while considering a career in television, insisting the decision had nothing to do with money.

In a letter to Giants fans last month, Strahan said the holdout had nothing to do with his recent divorce, in which a judge awarded his former wife $15.3 million. Strahan has paid half that amount, and an appellate court granted him a temporary stay while it considers whether the award was too much.

  4. im glad he wasn't here, he probably would've gotten hurt like half the league did this preseason and every preseason. as long as he produces i dont care what he does

Watching teamates getting injured every pre-season game I am sure is making him want to wait even longer. When pre-season is over he will probably have an epiphany and decide to play.

  5. he's proved to me in th last couple of weeks that he "could" carry the load. He just needs an O-Line like Dallas had in the 90's. If a QB does not have the time to do his play the route gets fucked up. He has an arm as we all know, but his accuracy lacks, and pressure situations are less than 50% good unless it's been a 4th quarter situation. We need to somehow raise his confidence level. Lets face it, it's hard to be a NY anything... Whether it's coach, QB, RB, baseball player, hockey player, basketball player, or anything... He does have better stats than any QB of the Giants past since Simms, and maybe Hosteller

Almost every QB could have succeeded on Dallas' O during the 90s.

  6. Agreed, I believe preseason will be at least down to two games in the near future.

It does suck when players get injured during pre-season but if you couldn't make it through 4 games then how many games of the regular season were these guys going to last. Also for players battling for a position it's going to severely hurt their chances of making the roster. There are many players that are good in practice but just can't get it done during regular games. I know it doesn't happen too often but the under dog player is going to have even less of a chance with 2 games.

  7. I don't know why people are so down on Coughlin on this board. Maybe he isn't the second coming of coaches but he has been effective with an underacheiving team of complainers (ask Fassell about that). Won a division championship with a young QB and then lost to Carolina that went all the way to the NFC campionship game. Last year made the playoffs (all the NFC was ugly) and should have beaten the Eagles if the D could make just 1 drive stop. The only thing I don't like about Coughlin is his stupifying expressions. He always looks like he is confused (his constant what the fuck look) and playing with retards that can't understand football.

  8. Yeah, my faux pas.

If Merriman were subjected to say the Olympics drug testing he wouldn't play again.

Correction he would have never been caught. Olympics only catch athletes with poor cheating skills or who took the wrong cold medication.

  9. Jennings was on fire last night. He had Mix, Moss and Tyree shaking in their boots. Such a pity. Great hands.

As to the injuries I don't hink you can put them on Baltimore being thugs. Madison and Jennings were untouched and Demps only has himself to blame for poor technique. That was one ugly hit. Smith's concussion was unfortunate but not dirty IMHO.

I think Jennings would have made the roster as 4th WR this year and I think Moss has to be the odd man out at this point (Tyree makes the team because of special teams). Out most of last season and doing nothing again this pre-season isn't going to help him make the roster.

  10. the post this morning said 4 - 6 weeks is typical. Demps said he had the same injury his rookie year and only missed 3 weeks. I guess we will see.

The Jennings thing was unfortunate because he seems like a good kid but with Smith here he was a #4 at best and was fighting Mix for a roster spot.

Madison's injury has me very worried. Depending on the severity that could hinder him for the whole season. Bad Hammies take a long time to heal 100%.

I think Jennings was going to make the roster because we was mentioned more than once during training camp and was getting throws during pre-season. Too bad he is done now but most people here seem to like Mix so he has a good chance of making the roster now. What the hell is going on with Moss? He's had 1 catch for 10 yards in 2 preseason games.

  11. So if I am to assume, since Wright was signed to a two year deal, Timmy Hassleback is gone on cut day?

He would seem to be the odd man out since the Philsbury Throwboy is out playing him. I am sure it's going to be Manning, Lorenzen and Wright.

  12. damn mike Jennings ruptured his Achilles , Madison grabbed for his hammy and Demps got a stinger frigging pre-season injury's

when will the injury bug get the hell of our back its going on 3 years straight now . I think its time to look for a new conditioning coach.

The way this is going we are going to have backups playing by the time the season starts. Fucking unreal.

  13. I am going to have to scan the NFL Network and try and watch this. It's bizarro world that the O was much better than the D when the D looked so promising in practice. Was Kiwanuka any good or was he as bad as his training camp reports?

  14. Why would other black executives hopes at advancement be attached to Reese? That kind of logic I have never understood. Why can't merit count instead of skin color?

It's the Superbowl all over again. It's why there is still racism because anytime a minority accomplishes something it has to be pointed out. I swear if I was Lewis or Dungy I would have ripped somebody a new asshole for bringing that up.

  15. Apparently, Eli is the third best-looking QB in camp. Wright has looked pretty sharp, and Lorenzen is apparently playing lights-out football. Eli looks inconsistent and erratic... in other words, he looks like Eli. I know "it's still training camp," but to have the fourth season in a row where Eli looks "inconsistent and erratic" is pretty troubling, considering he's been playing QB since birth.

By all accounts, Hasselbeck looks awful, missing passes, underthrowing receivers by five yards, ugly passes... in other words, he looks like Hasselbeck. He sucks, has sucked, and always will suck. I've always said that guy couldn't start in the Arena League; I have no idea how he still has a job.

I am sure he will be gone at first cuts. Seems like J Load and Wright are impressing so that's a good thing for our backup QB situation.

  16. Reese didn't need the Strahan deal for him to learn to say No comment Fish. He's been spouting of quite a bit, his comments about Luke were out of line.

New system yes, but a system that needs 2 defensive ends like last year. Sure there's some adjustments but in the end, he's still playing the same position.

I'm not saying he's right, but I'm trying to measure how 'wrong" he is here. The guy is 35 and plays one of the most demanding slots on the team. Forget the money for one second, I think he's earned a few breaks. Strahan has rarely let Giant fans down in the past. He'll be back in a few days.

That's what I am thinking. The old guy probably just wanted the week off.

  17. Probably just to old and wants to miss training camp but this guy needs to shit or get off the pot.

Giants begin fining Strahan for missing days at camp

ALBANY, N.Y. -- The chances that seven-time Pro Bowler Michael Strahan will play for the New York Giants this season are a lot better than Osi Umenyiora moving from right end to left end to replace him.

After chatting a couple of times with Strahan over the past few days, Umenyiora said Monday that his 35-year-old friend's holdout wasn't a joke and that he was seriously considering retirement after 14 NFL season.

"I know what he is telling me, and it's still 50-50 whether he is going to come back," Umenyiora said Monday.

With the holdout now in its fourth day, the Giants on Monday informed Strahan through his agent, Tony Agnone, that he would be fined $14,288 for every day of camp he misses retroactive to Friday, the day the team reported to the University at Albany.

Agnone did not return a telephone call seeking comment.

The team confirmed that if Strahan does retire, the fines will not be assessed.

Umenyiora refused to discuss the reasons Strahan gave for contemplating retirement, but he advised him to return for another season.

"Of course, I am going to tell him to come back," said Umenyiora, who went to the Pro Bowl with Strahan in 2005. "I am going to tell him to come back every day because as a person, as a human being, I like being around the guy. He is a good friend of mine."

If Strahan doesn't come back, the Giants will have to consider other options. One might be signing veteran Simeon Rice, whose 121 career sacks rank second to Strahan (132½) among active players.

Rice was released by Tampa Bay last week after failing a physical because of a shoulder problem.

The Giants plan to give Rice a physical on Wednesday. He would then go through a workout to decide whether the team will sign him.

Umenyiora said the proposed move didn't seem to resonate with the rest of the Giants.

"I mean we're not talking about Julius Peppers," Umenyiora said. "Simeon Rice, he is an outstanding pass rusher, but that's what he is."

Rice has been criticized for being soft against the run. Signing him would also create the problem of where to play him. Rice can't play the left end because that is where the majority of the opposition's running plays go.

Umenyiora was adamant he was not going to move to the left side so Rice could play the right end.

"I'm a right end," Umenyiora said. "I have been successful at right end. I don't feel the need to move to a different position, that's kind of crazy if you ask me. Ask me to move to left defensive end because Simeon Rice is here? It's ridiculous."

When told that Strahan moved to left end early in his career, Umenyiora got defensive.

"Michael was never successful as a right defensive end," he said. "He wasn't if you look at his play. When they moved him to left defensive end, that's when he blew up because he is a natural left defensive end. I don't think you can make that argument with me."

Strahan also balked at moving to the left side.

"I am not going to move to left defensive end if they sign Simeon Rice," Umenyiora insisted. "That's what I'm telling you. If the team asks me, 'We need you to move to left defensive end because we need you at that position,' I will. But I will not move to left defensive end because Simeon Rice is coming in."
