Texans talking about trading top draft pickAssociated Press

INDIANAPOLIS -- Heisman Trophy winner Reggie Bush might not land with the Houston Texans after all.

Texans general manager Charley Casserly said Sunday the Texans have been talking to teams about possibly trading the first pick in the 2006 draft.

It has been widely speculated that the Heisman Trophy winning running back out of Southern California would end up with the Texans because they recently gave quarterback David Carr a three-year contract extension.

The Texans, who finished 2-14 last season, have multiple needs that might be filled with one major move.

"There's clearly players at the top of this draft that are marquee players," Casserly said. "Players that are impact players, players that are going to go to the Pro Bowl, players that are going to sell tickets. We're going to get offers for this pick. We've already had discussions with teams. I think there's value in our pick.

"Whether it's Reggie Bush, Vince Young or Matt Leinart, those three players are going to produce trade offers. We are definitely going to have some choices when it comes to draft day."

Might just be posturing trying to drive up the price. Maybe they'll take our 1st rounder and Tim Carter for it?

It's definitely posturing at this point to try to drive the price. Casserly was on the NFL Network and did give a sneak peek as to how far down the Texans might be willing to trade back. He made a specific point about that it wouldn't make sense to trade out of a position to draft a player as special as Reggie Bush. My translation of that statement is that they'd trade down for D'Brick and that's about it. There's no way they'll trade out of the top 10 unless it's a Herschel.

I've heard the Jets and Oakland are the two teams that have shown alot of interest in moving up. The Saints are another team that may be willing to move down.

The Jets moving up wouldn't make much sense, they need a lot of people, with the way the team collapsed and the relative age of the team, probably should blow it up.

The Raiders need any able body person that can play defense, so unless they are moving up for a QB it doesn't make sense there either.

Saints moving down does with Payton really loving Cutler who will be available down the road.

I've been saying since we have known that the Texans had the #1 overall pick that they should trade down. Davis is an excellent back, perhaps their best player. And their o-line is undescribable, just... awful. They should trade down a few slots, get some day 1 picks, draft Ferguson and they should be on their way to an improved season from there.

well ya gotta look at it like this. pennington is under a huge contract. he feels he will return 100% and is not renegotiating at this point. if the jets (who are in big cap trouble) moved up to take another qb it would be stupid. HOWEVER martin DID restructure his contract and is on his last legs. i could see them moving up for bush as martins replacement. if chad were to return healthy and add bush and coles in the mix you have a good offense. they do have a lot of hole to fill so i dont know. when you bring in a new headcoach you may as well say your rebuilding. look at the giants. we coulda used all our picks we gave SD but we decided to gamble for the sake of our future. our neighbors might do the same. if we were the jets would you make a manning like deal for bush? bettin you would.

touche. i've been riding the Reggie Bush bandwagon since last year, so if I'm a Jets fan I'd be happy if they move up for Bush, a move for a QB would be silly IMO because one should be available for them at 4 if thats the way they want to go. If the rumors of them moving Abraham for the pick I would think its a good idea.

I wouldn't be happy if the Jets moved up. We are $23M over the cap. We have holes at every offensive position and a few defensive positions. Our OL is a complete mess. We need to trade DOWN and get more picks.
