N.Y. Giants GM: Tuck, Nicks deserve to hit open market

Justin Tuck said last month that he would love to retire as a member of the New York Giants, but he still wants to see what the market is for his services this offseason.

Speaking at the NFL Scouting Combine on Saturday, general manager Jerry Reese confirmed that Tuck, Hakeem Nicks and Jon Beason all are expected to hit the open market.

Offering a refreshingly honest take on free agency, Reese said all three players deserve to see what the market is and to get as much money as possible.

Translation: Reese already has set a walk-away price, which none of them have been willing to accept to this point.

The Giants will keep their options open on all three players.

Here's what else we learned from Reese on Saturday:

» The team's brass is confident that Rueben Randle will make a "significant jump" in his third season, which would seem to suggest Nicks won't be back. Reese also said Jerrel Jernigan finally looked like the player he selected in the third round of the 2011 NFL Draft.

» Despite speculation to the contrary, Reese said veteran guard Chris Snee definitely wants to play another season. Coming off October hip surgery and an elbow operation, Snee will have to accept a pay cut to return to the Giants.

» The Giants aren't going to put all of their eggs in David Wilson's basket at running back. Reese will address the position in free agency or the draft.

Sucks about Beason. I've never been a big fan of taking in other teams cast offs, but every now and then a few come through. Beason is one of them. Although I have to wonder, is Beason that good, or was the team just so bad that anyone would have made an impact? Anyway, it'll be interesting to see who we keep.

It's not like Beason is a top 10 LB, heck I'm willing to say he's probably not even in the top 15 MLBs in the league, but he is a starting quality LB which is more then can be said for any of the other LB on the Giants.
