  1. agreed, but since the Maine, El Duque and Sanchez coups of 2006, Omar has been off a bit.

Yeah. It seems like he's gone to a strategy that goes along the lines of signing a bunch of washed up players and hope one of them turns out great and make him look like a genius (tatis).

  2. Since the Seo for Sanchez deal before the 2006 season season Omar has on his resume...

Brian Bannister for Ambrioux Burgos, because he likes having power arms in his pen

    then...

trades Heath Bell(a power arm in the pen) and Royce Ring to the Padres for Ben Johnson and jon Adkins(not a power arm for the pen)

    then....

trades Matt Listrom(a power arm) and Henry Owens(a power arm) to the Marlins for Jason Vargas and some other bum I cannot even recall(neither of which were power arms in the pen).

So my question is where exactly does this thing even out?

I'm just talking about with trades sometimes you win and others you don't. We got El Duque in the 06 and some of 07 season and John Maine who looks to be a solid starter for Kris Benson.

  3. the Mets and in particular that kook Rick Peterson fucked Bell up. Up and down up and down, man was just back from Norfolk one year and sent back the same day. You could tell from day 1 this kid had good stuff and once he got his weight under control he really showed it. I always liked him. I am not sure you are not right in your assesment that maybe NY was not the place for him, but he has definitely proven that for Ben JOhnson and Jon Adkins he was a steal for the Padres and a demerit on the resume of Omar Minaya, IMO.

This stuff evens out. Dumb trade but shit happens.

  4. The Bills just became a legit contender

They already had a very good team

if they draft well we may well see a 1990 repeat SB

I would love to have Kivka Mitchell back from that squad

The Cowboys are not going to get better by subtraction

    Trent Edwards=Jim Kelly

  5. First and 5 at the Eagles 20 late in the first half. We'd been running the ball well, passing poorly, and we need to eat off time so when the Eagles get the ball back they don't have time to get a score. Three straight passes, 15 seconds off the clock, we make a field goal.

After their O flounders the whole first half the eagles march down the field, make a field goal, and steal momentum.

That sequence of playcalling was inexcusable. I know it's just a small part of the entire game but it was awful.

  6. I dnt want a WR

we dont need one with Plax or without him through draft

the only way id want a WR is if we trade for one.

Manningham, Moss, Hixon, Smith are all young, talented receivers

What did young and talented do for them last year?

Smith is a nice complementary receiver. Complementary. Moss sucks. Hixon's decent but he had his chance last year. And I'm sure as fuck not pinning any hopes on Mario.

We need a WR if we don't get Plax back. Period.

  7. All reports still say Seattle is still shit crazy for the kid and the teams trainers have been visiting with him non-stop to see how the foot is going.

Unless the guy looses his foot due to a botched surgery look for the 'Hawks to be taken him regardless.

What if Seattle signs housh, who they are supposedly front runners for?

  8. In his sophomore season Brandon Marshall had 102 catches with 7 TD's. In his rookie year he wasn't afforded the same opportunity.

Randy Moss had an unreal rookie season, yes that was a long time ago, though. Anquan Boldin had 101 catches his rookie year. Dwayne Bowe had a 70 catch, 995 yard, 5 TD rookie year. Calvin Johnson had a pretty good rookie year I believe as a 3rd WR. Andre Johnson had nearly a thousand yards his rookie year with 4 TD's. Fitzy 780 yards with 8 TD's his rookie year.

Not trying to be a contrarian, but you inspired me to search some information about rookie WR's. Not saying it will happen with Britt, but it's possible he could give us more than what our current stable of receivers can.

True, but the guys you mentioned came out with rare talent with the exception of Bowe and Marshall. Britt has talent but he doesn't have those guys' ability.

I'll make it tougher on you. Can you think of a WR in the 6'4 range without superhuman abilities that was a #1 receiver on a contending team? That's the circumstance with Britt.

  9. I can't help but be a little mad that the chances are going even higher of 2011 being a strike season. This team has a chance to make its mark on the league for the next 4-5 yrs IMO. It's hard to project that ahead but I don't want a strike getting in the way of what we're building.

  10. Hey, I agree with EVERYTHING you said until the last sentence. And truly, I have been a proponent for trading for Edwards. I just don't want to see Kiwi leave in that trade. We can afford draft picks right now, and of course I'd throw in Sinorice Moss :hehe: .

We got a 2nd and a 5th for Shockey. Why should we give anymore for the league leader in drops for 2008? Do I want him? Yes. But for fair value. Meaning Kiwi and a pick is overpaying, IMO. We'll see what happens, though. I want to see Kenny Britt on the Giants. And with all the picks we have, and little else to do to round out this roster other than getting 2 safeties, 2 offensive lineman, and a linebacker, we can afford to draft a couple of WR's and see what happens! Britt with one of the first two picks, Greg Carr in the 5th!

You may want to acquire the guy who led the league in drops in 2008 but the Browns may want value for the guy who was a top 3 WR in 2007.

With a stacked dline and a plethora of draft picks it's a reasonable deal, as long as it's not a first rounder.

And we need a WR who can make an immediate impact as a #1. Britt has tools to be possibly a very good WR one day but I can't remember the last time a WR with his height made an immediate impact as a #1 in his rookie year.

  11. Oh, gateb, let's please not talk about Kiwi leaving! Kiwi is a Giant! I don't want to see him leave. Personally, with the crap year that Edwards had last year, Kiwi AND a draft pick would be grossly overpaying, that is not buying low! A starting caliber DE AND a pick for Edwards, who may be psychologically damaged goods? I would give a 2nd and a 6th for him, MAYBE upgrade the 6th to a 5th, but no more.

He's talented enough to be a top 5 WR and he's proved it as recently as 2007. This team needs a gamebreaker at WR and he provides that.

It's easy to say "oh let's just bring Plax back he's locked up anyway" but it'll be a circus in training camp. There'll be too much stuff about him and if he gets off to a slow start with dropped passes then there'll be a lot of negative discussion circling the team.

Edwards doesn't even need to be an 80 catch guy. Plax had 40 catches in 8 or 9 games with avg. production but he was arguably our most valuable offensive weapon. We just need a guy teams can respect down the field.

Not to mention I think Kiwi will be an FA within the next two years and there's no way we'll be able to give him what the market demands.

  12. Well gateb, if Osi comes back 100% with him and Tuck on the ends it's going to be frightening. The addition with Boley is huge and Phillips and Johnson are our safeties, and Phillips looks like he's a great player, Webster is starting to be recognized by unbiased parties as a shut-down corner, and even on a down year Ross was pretty good... throw in Terrell Thomas and Dockery as our depth at corner, and your right, we are missing a LB and some depth at safety. Come on, gateb, that is pretty sick! Even if they moved Chase Blackburn to SLB that would be sick. But don't be surprised if they wind up with Brian Cushing to play that spot, my friend! It could happen. No matter what with the way this defensive line looks, opposing QB's will be losing sleep over having to face this defense next year.

It's gonna be great but I think all time defenses are made through outstanding linebacking. Our LBers look to be improved next year but won't be at a level that will place us among the all time defenses.

Trust me Jim I'm as excited as you right now. I can't wait for football season.

  13. I would feel bad if Robbins were released, but it could help him and at this point the Giants have shown that they are willing to move on with certain guys and not overpay for aging players as they once did.

Possible too that Kiwi is being shopped around to teams. Remember Zona just lost a DE?

Yeah and they also have a WR I hear wants to be traded...

I read somewhere Kiwi and a draft pick for Braylon Edwards. I would love to buy low on this guy.

  14. With the defense we'll be trotting out there, I think the offense only needs to worry about scoring about 14 to 17 points to get a 'W'. This might be the kind of defense that is mentioned alongside the '85 Bears, '86 Giants, and 2000 Ravens. I'm talking BETTER than last year's Steelers team. All-time good. A lot of it will have to do with health, but we are officially loaded.

Let's take it down a notch Jim. Ross is iffy at CB right now, no one knows who our safeties are, and we're still basically missing an LB right now.

Top 3 defense? Most likely. But I doubt they will make it to all-time status. It's one helluva rotation on d-line.

  15. It's official!

New York Giants agree to terms on a contract with defensive lineman Chris Canty

    by Mike Garafolo/The Star-Ledger Sunday March 01, 2009, 3:59 PM

Chris Canty will still get a chance to hunt down NFC East quarterbacks. Only now, he'll do it in a Giants uniform.Three players in, three players added.

The Giants have plugged another free-agent piece into their defensive front today by signing lineman Chris Canty to an undisclosed contract, the team announced moments ago. Terms are not yet available. The former Cowboy will join LB Michael Boley and DT Rocky Bernard - both signed yesterday - as integral members of the Giants' front seven.

Canty, 26, is the biggest of the three additions - and the biggest surprise. A 3-4 defensive end for four seasons since the Cowboys drafted him in the fourth round of the 2005 draft, the 6-7, 304-pound Canty will now likely switch to tackle in the Giants' 4-3 scheme. It won't be that big of an adjustment, though Canty will now have to adjust to playing over opposing guards instead of tackles. He had 10 sacks (6 1/2 combined in the past two seasons) in his four years with Dallas. There's also a chance the Giants could line Canty up at end in some situations.

With a contract like the one he's about to officially sign, Canty will surely be a starter, which means either Fred Robbins or Barry Cofield will soon be in a backup role as part of a tackle rotation.

Robbins was one of the Giants' best defensive players through the first six games of last season, as he equaled his career-high of 5 1/2 sacks. But Robbins didn't register a sack the rest of the season and didn't get nearly as much penetration after suffering two broken hands and a shoulder injury. Robbins also injured his knee in the playoff loss to the Eagles and, like Cofield, he recently had his knee scoped.

Cofield is expected to be 100 percent by late spring and Robbins should also be recovered in the next few months. But Robbins will be 32 next month and will be a free agent after this upcoming season, so he might be the one losing his starting job for Canty and his days with the Giants could be numbered. And Jay Alford, a third-round pick in 2007 who's also the short snapper for field goals, is now seemingly fifth on the depth chart at tackle.

This is a great move. Terrific off-season so far.

Now we can be flexible with our draft picks and trade up for a stud OL or playmaking WR, or stay put and continue to add good players.

  16. Yeah, but I wouldn't want Robbins to leave either. The guy is a team captain and I'm

sure his teammates love him. The only reason his play suffered is because of 2 broken hands

and a bad shoulder. 2 BROKEN HANDS, I still can't believe that.

I love what Reese and Coughlin have been doing for the past 2 years, but I have to question

    this move.

I think we'll keep Robbins. We'd cut Tollefson and I bet Robbins would restructure.

  17. NFL Network are fools for thinking that we are going to go DE in round 1. We have Kiwi, Osi, and Tuck there, with Tollefson there, too, who played pretty well last year. We are going to go with someone who can come in and make an impact right away with our 1st round pick... and that will be a strongside backer or a WR more than likely. I can see us taking an end later, but not with the first pick.

I think it's going to be:

    1 LB

    2 WR

    2 S

    OR

    1 WR

    2 LB

    2 S

Depending on what goes on with the rest of free agency. We have no depth at safety right now. We need some young talent there, and at OL and DL.

BTW, with the 2 moves we've made in free agency, I wouldn't be surprised to see us move up higher into the first.

One thing about the Giants is it seems like they don't draft according to position. While safety and corner were needs the last two years, those players were up high on their board too.

  18. The first pick will be a WR and they will trade up if need be.

What if Plax wins his trial and the league says there will be no further punishment come draft time?

I'd still draft a WR in the first day but it gets trickier.

Maybe trade up for a stud tackle.

  19. this was a no brainer to go play for Ryan in NY. I think the Jets are going to be a fantastic team over the next couple of seasons...Ryan is a hell of a d-coord.

Their o-line is reshuffling for the third straight year, they have 10 combined starts with all 3 of their quarterbacks, and have no receivers.

It seems like the Jets got a lot of hype from February to August.
