  1. I can assure you it's not outdated. Coyle waits until after the combine and most of the Pro Days to go to print. His Draft mag only just came out this week. I will say that every year there are guys he ranks significantly higher than others and conversely players he's not nearly as high on. Funny thing is, had the Kiwanuka ranking come out during last season I don't think it would've gotten nearly as much argument. Kiwanuka hasn't done anything wrong, I just think a bunch of other guys have improved their stock. I keep a pretty close eye on Coyles stuff all year long and he's always been high on Kiwanuka. Coyle isn't a frontrunner either. He's kind of the anti-Kiper. He's not looking for accolades. He's been doing this since before anyone had ever heard of Mel Kiper. He's not afraid to make the unconventional pick. I tend to agree that Whitner will not be there in the 2nd but I wouldn't find it shocking if he was. I too am not a fan of drafting 3 WR's. Like I said earlier I'd much rather see us stick with the late round WR's and take an OT in that 3rd round slot but looking at what he had available, Stovall was definitely a better option. I'd also much prefer to get a linebacker on the first day but Anderson on day 2 would be a gem. I'm not as high on Ingram. He's a bit rigid. I've seen him compared to Brandon Short. One thing that stands out about both of the linebacker prospects Coyle has us taking is special teams play. They're ranked 1 and 2 among linebackers in Special Teams play.
  2. Frank Coyle's Scouting Service has the Giants draft going this way: Rd. 1 (25) - CB Antonio Cromartie - Fla. St. Rd. 2 (56) - S Donte Whitner - Ohio State Rd. 3 (87) - WR Maurice Stovall - Notre Dame Rd. 4 (123) - LB James Anderson - Virginia Tech Rd. 5 (153) - LB Clint Ingram - Oklahoma Rd. 6 (184) - WR Jonathan Orr - Wisconsin Rd. 7 (216) - WR Ed Hinkel - Iowa I know it's a mock but I'd be OK with this draft. He has the prized linebackers being drafted before the Giants first pick. I'll take Cromartie if he's a consolation prize but I don't want us to select him over guys like D'Meco Ryans. I'll be ecstatic if we can land a guy like Whitner in round 2. I don't see him being there. I love the late round picks of Orr and Hinkel. I don't dislike Stovall either but I don't know how high I am on three WR's being drafted. Zach Streif is the highest rated Tackle on his board when we selected Stovall in the 3rd. I'd agree that Stovall presents better value. Some names I've seen tossed around here that fell to the second day: LB Kai Parham LB Terna Nande WR Brandon Williams LB A.J. Nicholson Guy's he has going earlier than I've seen in most drafts: LB Chad Greenway - 12th overall to Cleveland DE Mathias Kiwanuka - 13th overall to Baltimore!!!! LB DeMeco Ryans - 14th overall to Philly CB Ashton Youboty - 19th overall to San Diego WR Devin Hester - 2nd round to Minnesota QB Brodie Croyle - 2nd round to Denver
  3. I agree the Rams D has gone horribly downhill, although that fall started immediately after the Super Bowl title. Lovie was still with the team for a few years. As much as I like to blame Martz for his general stupidity, I won't hang the defensive failures on him. The Rams have just had some shitty luck with their defensive draft choices. Team GM Charley Armey runs the draft and I assure you, he listens to Martz about as much as I do. This is simply a case of the Rams going through a run of bad drafts. However, before you label Armey a failure, realize that maybe 5 years ago his name was being mentioned among NFL GM elite. He drafted Torry Holt, Leonard Little and Orlando Pace. The Defensive Tackle failures have been his undoing although you can't blame him for the choices he made. 9 GM's out of 10 would've taken guys like Ryan Pickett, Damione Lewis and Jimmy Kennedy. They just haven't panned out. I just think you can't shy away from a position just becuase you've been burned before. Ngata is widely regarded as the top Defensive Tackle in the draft. Having him fall all the way to the Rams was a blessing. I'm not down on Lawson but I still take Ngata in that slot.
  4. How about we trade Goliath for a stack of used porn?
  5. Did you really shy away from taking a defensive player because the Rams have drafted busts on D several times?
  6. If I'm Cleveland I take Ngata over Lawson too. They needed a run stuffer. Ted Washington is a 1 year rental.
  7. Bulger's fine. He might stay healthier if Martz drew up a scheme that involved pass blocking. I don't think the Cutler pick is all that bad for the Rams in this slot but I agree that defense is the greater need. Haloti Ngata as well as multiple defensive backs would've made sense here.
  8. Add my name to that list too. Justice over Cutler is a no brainer.
  9. There isn't even a statue of that guy in the entire city!
  10. People have been saying that exact thing about Arrington since he came into the league. Wasted potential, career underachiever ... I think those terms more aptly describe the guy.
  11. The Brick wasn't breaking the story, Looney was. For what it's worth, I'm leaning towards the belief that Favre is hanging 'em up too.
  12. I am willing to allow for the "Millen factor". If the Lions owner doesn't make the cutoff, give 'em the highest ranked wide receiver!
  13. I thought Karras played for the Detroit Lions but yes, I am very aware of Dobler's reputation for dirty play.
  14. Stick with your Draft Board policy. Even if it doesn't make sense for the team, it's what you said you were going to do. Not only that, if we do go back and grade the players teams got, it wouldn't make sense for teams who weren't present to have solid grades. I bet I can guess which player you're considering for the Bills. Regardless, whoever you select is still a top 15 player but I'd stick with the rules you stated.
  15. Mario Williams was my first choice. I thought there was a good chance he'd fall to me. Once he was gone, Hawk was in the crosshairs. Packers had the good fortune to have access to 4 top notch talents who would all satisfy a positional need: RB Reggie Bush OT D'Brick DE Williams LB Hawk AJ Hawk teamed with Nick Barnett will pay quick dividends for Green Bay's defense. I give myself an "A"
  16. I agree, we should change the Cowboys representative. Even though I always had a ton of respect for Bill Bates, a better representative would be Defensive Tackle Randy WHITE. I always though Conrad Dobler was a Defensive Lineman. If not, Pat Tillman can represent the Cardinals.
  17. The early Chris Hovan was that way. The Chris Hovan in his final two seasons in Minnesota was a bum. Underachieved like crazy. Maybe it's something about being a Minnesota Defensive Player. None of them seem to perform to expectation (EJ Henderson, Udeze, E. James, D. Thomas). Anyway, Hovan needed to get out. The change of scenery seems to have done him good.
  18. I was encouraged when we signed Brimmer and Shivers but to be honest, I don't have a preference at this point as to who makes the team beyond Demps and Gibril. Training camp and the preseason will be excellent proving grounds. Whoever emerges from the war of attrition will have earned the spot. It's a much better situation than last year when we knew Brent Alexander and Shaun Williams would make the team. I like what Alexander gave us in his limited time here but he was still a liability.
  19. I should do a "All Time White Guy" roster. I think there would be a LOT of Montana to Largent, with a bit of Unitas to Alworth mixed in! That team would have to be a pass first offense. Not too many running backs to choose from. Handoff Larry Csonka! Goal line carries go to John Riggins!
  20. This time of year it's all about acquiring as much talent as possible. Don't worry about how many safeties are on the roster. The only one's guaranteed to make the team at this point are Wilson and Demps. Everyone else is expendable due to their cheap price tags. I will say that watching the safety competition in camp will be one of the better positional battles. Butler, Brimmer, Shivers and Quentin Harris will all be banging heads
  21. Thank you ... I don't know why I was drawing a blank with the Steelers. I knew there had to be some obvious choices. Let's go with Lambert.
  22. Had you already shoved him at the moment this photo is shot? If not, and he's already gotten rid of the ball, I might flag you for Roughing the Passer.
  23. FWIW, Eli's effectiveness, even in the 2 minute drill, dropped off as the season progressed. I think the no huddle has it's place as a mismatch maker but I don't like the thought of us going that route on a consistent basis offensively. If Eli can learn to quickly line up the troops after a play to catch the opponent in a substitution or force a timeout, I'm all for it. But I don't think we should eschew the traditional offense for a base no huddle like the Bills and Jim Smelly used to use.
