  1. I for one (and most likely only one) think he still could be great...He played alot better at the end of the season then given credit for and had he been given a chance I think he could have had a comback against Phili. What Im looking at is even when he was playing Shitty they were still scoring (Saints aside) The O averaged 22 points a game and whent 8-8 ...If the D could have helped out down the streach the season would have gone alot different...By the way The D averaged 22 points agame aswell... I dont care who you are if your D cant stop anyone then your going to lose....I think with a New DC a more "powerful" run game and Gil calling the plays he should make a Giants leap forward this year...Hopefuly :)

  2. Anyone know if he's still facing jail time?

He was down on yards last year but had two 1200+ seasons the previous two years.

    From SI

He was arrested but later acquitted on drunken driving charges and had a domestic violence case against him dropped by prosecutors in Denver citing a lack of evidence.

CLEVELAND (AP) -- Reuben Droughns, Cleveland's only 1,000-yard rusher since 1985, was traded Friday to the New York Giants, who need a feature running back following Tiki Barber's retirement.

In return for Droughns, who became expendable after the Browns signed free agent Jamal Lewis to a one-year, $3.5 million contract on Wednesday, the Giants sent Cleveland wide receiver Tim Carter.

As part of a three-year, $12 million contract extension he signed last year, Droughns was due a $1.75 million roster bonus this month. But instead of paying him or releasing the 28-year-old and getting nothing in return, the Browns acquired Carter, a part-time starter who had 22 catches for 253 yards and two touchdowns last season.

The Browns also terminated the contract of cornerback Daylon McCutcheon, one of only two players left from their 1999 expansion team. McCutcheon missed all of last season following microfracture surgery on his knee.

In his first season with Cleveland in 2005, Droughns rushed for 1,232 yards, becoming the first Browns back to eclipse 1,000 yards since Kevin Mack and Earnest Byner did it in 1985. But slowed by injuries and personal problems, Droughns was a big disappointment last season, gaining just 758 yards.

He was arrested but later acquitted on drunken driving charges and had a domestic violence case against him dropped by prosecutors in Denver citing a lack of evidence.

Droughns missed two games with injuries and had only two 100-yard games in 2006. He was running behind an injury-ravaged offensive line that couldn't regroup after losing center LeCharles Bentley to a season-ending knee injury.

The Giants are hoping to get the '05 Droughns, who will likely compete with bruising third-year back Brandon Jacobs to fill Barber's vacant spot. It's also possible the Giants could rotate them, using a similar two-back system to the one employed by Super Bowl champion Indianapolis.

"Reuben rushed for 1,200 yards in '04 and '05 and 750 last year," Giants general manager Jerry Reese said. "We think he gives us a nice veteran presence and compliments Brandon Jacobs and the rest of our running back group nicely."

Droughns also has played fullback, his position in Denver for two years before his breakout season in 2004 when he gained 1,240 yards and scored a career-high six touchdowns.

The Browns were last in the league in rushing last season, and appear ready to let the 27-year-old Lewis, who gained an NFL single-game record 295 yards against them in 2003, be their primary back.

But the addition of Lewis doesn't mean they won't pick Oklahoma's Adrian Peterson with the No. 3 overall selection in next month's draft.

Also, the Browns have signed Bengals defensive tackle Shaun Smith to a four-year offer sheet. The Bengals have seven days to match the deal or they'll lose the restricted free agent, who would follow offensive tackle Eric Steinbach to Cleveland.

The Browns signed Steinbach to a seven-year, $49.5 million free agent deal last week.

While the news on the running back search has cooled over the last few days, the Giants have turned their attention to Wide Receiver Kevin Curtis, formerly of the ST. Louis Rams. According to many of local blogs he will be visiting with the Giants this evening.

Curtis, who went to Utah State has been in the NFL for four years. While the first year he did not play much, he has been a regular contributor for the Rams in the last three seasons. With the signing of Drew Bennett and Tory Holt and Isaac Bruce already in place, there is no place for Curtis to resign with his former team. Early reports in Free Agency had him signing with the Lions to reunite him with his former coach, Mike Martz.

Curtis has already visited the Vikings last week and the Lions over the weekend but left both teams without a contract.

With the lack activity from the Giants maybe tonight will be the night they make some noise and go in a direction that few expected them to go to start free agency. With the many needs on this team, few expected them to be active in the Wide Receiver market, but they have one of the top receivers available coming in for a visit.

With Amani Toomer coming off an injury and getting up their in age, Sinorice Moss contributing very little last year, and Tim Carter being a complete waste, the Giants could use another good receiver. If Curtis was to sign here, I would imagine he would either start alongside Plaxico Burress or be the third receiver if Toomer was fully healthy. Either way, he would be a big part of this offense and really give Eli Manning another weapon.

    Other Giants Notes:

According to the Star Ledger, Amani Toomer restructured his contract slighly but no word of the impact, if any on the salary cap.

  4. to be honest ...there is no point going in straight away and paying way over the market price for greedy mediocre , media hyped , FAs. This year's talent is sparse. Its a shame we didnt get Clements ...but other than him there is a lot of very ordinary , injury prone ,arrogant rubbish out there this year ....with a big price tag on it. (IMO)

FA is only 3 days old ...Reese is playing a long game ...and i think he is doing the right thing

Even Clements got WAY WAY over payed...Highest payed Defender Ever?

Shit, even our Cast off TE who never did anything when shockey was hurt and he had been given a chance got way over payed

  5. I read this some were? ;)

Davis has exceptional size and rare play strength. He stands an impressive 6-foot-7, 375 pounds and is not a fat player. He is a great run blocker who is able to maul and control his opponents with massive power and functional strength, and his huge wingspan makes it difficult for defenders to get around him in both the run and pass games. He is a very athletic player for his size and moves with ease in space, nimble enough to control his body and not become too top-heavy. Davis can also pull and run out in space. He uses his hands very well and has a strong punch and is a knee-bender who uses his leverage well. When he wants to, he can completely dominate opposing defenders. Despite playing at left tackle for many years he is best suited to play at guard. Davis has not been a very consistent player in his six years in the NFL, though, and does not always dominate on every play like he can and. He can be lazy and try to out muscle players over whom he has a size advantage, rather than using technique and feet to keep players at a disadvantage. He could improve both his pass sets and run blocking to be more punishing and dominant, and if Davis would ever get a consistently nasty temper and stop thinking so much he would set a new standard for the guard position. He still has some maturing to do, though when he wants to punish players he can and will. He has all the intangibles to be one of the best to ever play his position and if he is able to improve his control and balance in pass sets as well as in run blocking, he will greatly improve his game. He is a rare combination of talent, size and athletic ability that comes along once in a blue moon. Davis would be an All-Pro if he really went to work to increase his stamina and endurance and become a real student of the game. Overall, he is one of the best young talents in the NFL and will continue be a dominant player inside as a run blocker.

A lot of people are wondering what’s the deal with Nate Clements. Best I can tell, the Giants were watching him prior to the deadline but came to the realization that his price tag was entirely too high. Yahoo Sports is reporting that the Giants will still make a run at Clements but Roderick Hood seems like a more realistic option at this point.

    - Other then that, not much has changed last night. The Giants are scheduled to meet with Dominic Rhodes at some points today and I personally think they’ll come to a deal quickly.

    - The Giants will keep an eye on Ahman Green as an insurance policy. If Rhodes does somehow leave without a deal, I’d expect the Giants to have Green in for a visit in the near future.

    - The Giants have an eye on Leonard Davis. (John Clayton has finally hinted at this. He said Davis is negotiation with “three NFC East teams.”)

    more to come soon.

Here is a Quote on this relatively unknown center

O'Hara is a seven-year veteran that was signed as a free agent by the Cleveland Browns in 2000 out of Rutgers. He signed with the Giants in 2005 and has been a two-year starter. O'Hara is a good athlete with quickness and agility. He is tenacious as a blocker, but not overpowering, strength wise. He understands angles and leverage and does a good job of sustaining his blocks by just staying in the way. He can snap and step simultaneously and get a good fit in his blocks and then bring his feet with him to work the block laterally or downfield. He does a very good job of playing the game on his feet and can recover when he gets into awkward positions. He will struggle against some of the massive nose tackles in the league and require help from one of the guards. He is one of the better knee benders of this group and plays the game with leverage. He is a very good technician and uses his hands to control and steer opponents. He is accurate with the shotgun snap and gets good pace on the ball. There are not many things you can't like about this guy, but ideally you would like him to have a little more bulk

Not bad for a guy none of us have ever heard of

  8. Arrington Part II?By David Syvertsen | February 26th, 2007Print | E-mail

    Adalius Thomas - Fannation.com

With FA just days away, it appears that the Giants strategy is becoming clear. That strategy is to make a splash, a huge splash despite the weak FA market that seems to lose a top tier player to the franchise tag every other day. The two names that are being connected to the Giants from strong and reliable sources are OLB Adalius Thomas and CB Nate Clements. The talk from the combine has escalated to the point where it almost appears as if one of these guys will certainly be a Giant within the upcoming month.

As well all know, Reese has been anything but shy when it comes to talking to the media about the team’s plans. It seems that he gives us something to write about on a daily basis with his talk concerning the targets on top of his board. It appears that from what I read and hear that the front office will opt to choose a DB in round 1, most likely a CB. Therefore I do not see Clements and his probable $8+ million per season salary a viable option when you look at our depth chart at OLB where we currently have Gerris Wilkinson who was deactivated for the playoff game and Reggie Torbor who is a decent special teamer at best. Giants are ready to make a serious offer to the 30 year old Thomas according to reports and with the Ravens showing that they do not want to shell out huge money for him, you have to think it is a legit possibility.

What would Thomas bring to the table? Well, for one he would be the physically imposing presence that was needed down the stretch for us this past season that would take pressure and attention of our Pro Bowler in the middle, Antonio Pierce. Thomas is stout against the run that not only holds his ground against enormous offensive linemen, but he pushes blockers backwards to create space and make plays on the ball. He is also a supreme pass rusher from the OLB position that shows great burst off the ball and can run down almost anyone from behind. So we know he is great in the box, that must mean he would be yet another liability in coverage, correct? Wrong. Thomas is widely regarded as one of the top cover LB’s in the league and reminds me of Brian Urlacher the way he drops into zone and can stick onto a tight end or running back. His ability to do it all will bring this defense to another level and come to think of it, he is exactly what we were hoping Lavar Arrington could be, but even better.

    Id take that

  9. and hope we get the next Sean Alexander? what if we get the next Ron Dayne?

I would rather go for something that has a good running reputation for now. Tatum Bell would be a good pick up .

We dont need a Shaun Alexander ....We need a guy who can catch out of the backfield and pick up the blitz

You know who would be a great fit.... Brian Leonard...Good hands, can block, and can run...And might be around late 2nd round maybe even early 3rd.....

I would rather build from with in then take some one elses trash..If we are going to spend money in F/A spend it on talent that is hard to develop...CB...LB...DT...LT
