  1. Yeah, but we've talked about the lack of "gamers" here before. The fact that there aren't many grinders on this team. I think some players on this team have already quit. You have John Maine unwilling to pitch with a little discomfort. The Carlos' are in no rush to get back and help the team, and neither is Reyes. How many times did we hear that we should be getting these guys back by August 1st, or right after the All Star break? That didn't happen, and I have to wonder why. Are they that slow to heal? Or is something else going on. Could it be that they aren't serious about getting back to this mess of a team?

Beltran and Delgado have both been doing defensive drills and Beltran has been taking batting practice

and I read earlier that Delgado was in the cage yesterday for the first time since his injury. Reyes had to fly back to NY today and he's probably going to be shut down http://www.newsday.com/sports/baseball/mets/reyes-might-be-out-for-the-season-pending-tests-1.1349015

Honestly , at this point I wouldn't be mad if we shut all three of them down.

Bring up some of our young guys. F-Mart after he comes back from the DL (lol), Evans and shit if Josh Thole and Ike Davis keep playing well in AA I wouldn't be mad if we called them up in September. The season's lost, fuck it.

  2. I'm done being embarrassed. We're a mess right now but I love this team too much to stop watching. Not that I expect them to win the wild-card or anything but there aren't many teams that would have success with the injuries we've had. I know it may sound like an excuse but I've NEVER seen anything like this. Perfect example from tonight; Castillo sprains his ankle after slipping on the dugout steps. Seriously?

  3. Slight derail but what does the future hold for Derek Holland? I know he's gone through some growing pains this year but he was dominant in his last start. I picked him up in my keeper league. Is he a top of the rotation guy?

And yeah, Perez was pretty impressive tonight. 21 of his 30 pitches went for strikes.

  4. Apologies if this has been posted. It's an article Garafolo wrote back in June.

I wanted to get this in the Kevin Boss story I wrote Wednesday, but I just spoke to Mark Bavaro Thursday morning. Regardless of the timing, the mutual respect between the past and present Giants tight ends is pretty neat to hear.

There aren't many current tight ends Mark Bavaro enjoys watching. The Cowboys' Jason Witten is one. Also on the short list? Kevin Boss. And not just because the Giants starter plays for Bavaro's former team and wears Bavaro's former number.

"He has a natural feel for the position," Bavaro said. "Jeremy Shockey was kind of like a bull charging through a china shop, but Kevin meanders his way around through open spaces. He doesn't draw a lot of attention to himself, which is an asset as a tight end because you want to sneak up on people. Plus, he has great, soft hands."

That last asset is one way Boss compares to Bavaro, a legendary tight end for the Giants during the era of the first two Super Bowls. Of course, when Boss was first drafted by the Giants in 2007, Bavaro didn't expect those hands would have much chance to contribute on the field, with Shockey the incumbent starter.

But that changed temporarily when Shockey got hurt before the Giants' Super Bowl XLII run and permanently when he was traded the following summer -- making Bavaro's No. 89 relevant again.

"I always watch those guys with a little more interest, but when he was wearing it in the beginning, I didn't think he was ever going to play," Bavaro said. "It was a pleasant surprise to see my number out on the field making a difference. It brought back memories for a lot of people, and it's always nice to be remembered."

Bavaro was a prolific tight end for the Giants, leading the team in receiving with 1,001 yards during the 1986 season. He sees Boss as the kind of player with the potential to do the same, so long as he is a major factor in the offensive game plan.

"I don't think he needs to improve, I think he's very good now," Bavaro said. "If he was back with us, (offensive coordinator) Ron Erhardt and (quarterback) Phil Simms, he would have my numbers and more. But a lot of it depends on the game plan."

When the two met at an event in Secaucus on Saturday, Boss was thrilled to speak with his famed predecessor. But Bavaro had a humble message for him.

"I just wanted to let him know I thought he was very good tight end," Bavaro said. "It wasn't Mark Bavaro to a new guy, it was the perspective of a fan who watched him play, just saying, 'Geeze, you're a good tight end, and I like to watch you play.'"

  5. He doesn't get a lot of pub, but I'm excited about his future. Big redzone target, soft hands and his blocking (which was his weakness) improved leaps and bounds last season. With the offense we run you need a good blocking TE. I think he has the potential to be a probowl caliber TE in a couple years. Homerish? Maybe, but I love this kid. Great guy off the field too.

  6. I think Ibanez would have been realistic had we not had the false sense of comfort in Murphy playing LF.

Him going to the Phils was a huge shift in the balance of power. We've been in a year long platoon in left while the Phillies might have the league's MVP there.

Dude, Albert Pujols is having one of the most amazing seasons I've EVER seen. What he did in the first half of the season was ridiculous; and he did it in a lineup that was definitely worse than the Phillies. He's easily the MVP.

  7. If he isn't fired it's a failure of epic proportions. Then again this is the Wilpon's we're dealing with so I can't say I'd be surprised if they didn't. I wish they could fire themselves.

Everyone hates Bernazard. How do you go and challenge a bunch of 20 year old's in Double A to a fight? WTF is that bullshit? What a nightmare of a season.

  8. Meh, he's younger and has more upside but he's regressed the past couple seasons. Hopefully a change of scenery does him some good and he can produce like he did in '06 and '07 or at least close to it.

    *crosses fingers*
