Mets look for power surge to continue

Cincinnati (38-33) at NY Mets (44-26) 7:10 pm EDT

FLUSHING, New York (Ticker) -- The New York Mets look for their power surge to continue on Wednesday when they host the Cincinnati Reds in the third game of a four-game set.

Paul Lo Duca, Carlos Delgado, pitcher Steve Trachsel and Xavier Nady each homered for the Mets in a 9-2 win on Tuesday after the Reds won the series opener on Monday.

Joe Mays (0-4, 8.22 ERA) takes the hill for Cincinnati in search of his first win of the season. Mays is making his first start since May 3. Since being recalled from the minors, the righthander has made three relief appearances, allowing one run and seven hits in seven frames.

Mays pitched well in middle relief in his last outing on Friday, allowing one earned run and seven hits over four frames against the Chicago White Sox.

The Mets will counter with rookie Alay Soler (2-1, 3.00), who is looking for his third win in a row. The rookie righthander is unbeaten on the road, but has struggled at Shea Stadium. Soler has surrendered 10 runs and 17 hits in 17 innings at home.

In his last outing on Friday against Baltimore, Soler allowed one earned run and four hits in six frames but did not factor in the decision.
