gateb
Okay, say we're in 2007, reflecting upon an amazing super bowl winning season lead by Eli Manning. You're friend goes up for you saying, "So man, where did it all start for Eli?" Well, here's where the debate begins. Just so you guys know, all of this stuff I had was deleted because when you put in a link, it highlights the page and i hit enter by accident . So just read and appreciate Giants vs. Cowboys 2005. The season is almost over. The Giants are 5-10, riding on an 8 game losing streak. Eli is 0-6, looking to get his first taste of victory instead of waiting 9 months. Eli had a great game, not looking at the stats but by his nice management, looking at his support cast and more. He had 3 TD passes (four including his play call change on Barber's game winning TD run). That got him his first win and huge momentum going into the off-season Giants vs. Chargers 2005. We all know the story. Eli didn't want to go to San Diego, demanded a trade, landed with us. But the SD fans aren't so easy to forgive and forget. They gave him everything they got and more. Yelling at him, cursing at him, and anything imaginable. No problem for Eli. Shook it off, lead an excellent first drive that was stalled by the idea of not going for it on fourth and short (which is an issue for later if you disagree). Then it was 21-3 and things were looking terrible. Eli looked okay then, nothing spectacular. However, he lead some nice drives and before you knew it, it was 21-20 going into halftime. We all know what happened from there but you surely cannot put the loss on this kid's shoulders. Giants vs. Rams 2005. This game is self-explanatory. Coming off the Chargers game, Eli was red hot and this time turned it into points. He just had a career day and that's how this game made it onto the list of candidates for his coming out game. Of course, that's what 4 TDs 0 INTs would do for you. Giants vs. Broncos 2005. This IMO is my personal choice. Maybe being there with all the energy and emotion factored into this but still, it has to be considered a top candidate. Down 23-10 with limited time to go, staring right at 3-3 going into a key divisional game against Washington, Eli had a major job to do. Lead a 14 point comeback with limited time against it turns out the second best team in the AFC. No problem for the kid. He smoothly lead a nice crisp drive that cut the lead to six. Then, on his next drive threw an INT that was made by a spectacular catch by Bailey. We got the ball back with 3:36 to go and a long field to cross. Some plays that stuck out was eli's spin move when Gerard Warren was chasing him and he threw a pass to Burress across the field to get a first down on third down. Then, he had that 25 yard strike to Shockey that setup a potential game winning TD pass. And we all know what happened from there Enjoy, post your thoughts and let's have a debate on this. mstrahan22_1/2
i think it's actually been a steady rise (with a few stumbles obvously) since he has been drafted. he never really exploded onto the scene. even before the cowboys game he had solid performances against the steelers and bengals. gateb
Steelers game was a great performance, was actually one of my choices but when it was deleted I felt there was no need to write that again. Didn't see the Bengals game though, heard it was a pretty decent game by Eli, nothing special some nice passes here and there. I agree, it has for the most part been a steady uprising. We just need something else to talk about and I thought this would be an interesting topic.
mstrahan22_1/2
the numbers lied about the bengals game. eli put the team in a position to win despite several key drops. i think it was frank walker that got burned towards the end of the game by housh, for shame. I remember watching the game on NFL.com and being real pissed off when that happened. I remember becoming even more pissed off after Eli threw the INT (which I found out later was tipped) and the bill was sent to my room on the amount of money charged for using the internet. But of course, everything happens for a reason. Without that, the next game wouldn't have been nearly as dramatic for Eli's first win.
mstrahan22_1/2
i'd still take the win anyday, even on a 5 game losing streak, we were only a few games out of the playoffs.

We were done right after we lost to Pittsburgh. If we did win the next three games, we were in the playoffs btw. It's not as if we were going to do anything, just some playoff experience for Eil. Go_Eli
Tiki's drop in the Bengals game was really a heartbreaker. If he makes that catch near the end of the game, the Giants win and Eli gets his first win a week earlier.

Was it a bomb or a short pass and was it like whn we were down and in the third? Sorry for all the questions but I need to know everything I missed.. even if it was two years ago. I remember there were many missed oppurtunities in the red zone also. Boy, I need a life

Boy, I need a life Short pass and he had room to run. He woulda had a first, giving the Giants a 1st and goal inside the like 5. Instead, they settled for a FG and the Bengals won. If I remember correctly...
HOUND
While he didn't have his best numbers game as a pro I'd have to agree that the 4th quarter comeback versus a solid Broncos team was the first time I thought ... "Wow, we're never out of a game with this kid". I'd have to agree that it's his best accomplishment to date. Although my second choice would've been the season finale versus Dallas in '05. If teh Giants lose Eli spends the entire offseason answering for an 0hfer record as a starter. Quite possibly could've ruined his confidence. That win was huge. It was a lot bigger then taken for just like the Broncos game. I wouldn't go as far as saying it would've ruined his confidence but it was a real boost. What a game too. To think that it never could have happened if the Cowboys recovered the Marcellus Rivers fumble One of the nicest parts of that game is, it wasn't even our draft pick we were losing seven spots for. Gspotter
got to agree with Hound, I think the Denver game showed me that he could win under pressure with his arm. I've seen others glimpses too. I'm optimistic about our future. I'm hoping that our coaches have enough vision to create a system that will get us to another level. I doubt I'll ever like Huf, but then again I grew to like Fassel and I hated him in the beginning. Good things are a coming, but it may be 2 years off. gateb
I see it closer then two years. Every team has one flawed position, but it's a shame our guys weren't even average this year. With some nice signings and good drafting, I can see us making a serious push next season.

If you're talking about our season I don't see how anybody could be upset with what we accomplished this year. The last game sucked but I'll take a division title, especially an unexpected one, even if it means a bad loss in round 1 in a season where many didn't predict us to be above .
flyinryan
I actually think that when "it" all started, it wasn't during a game, it was before. I don't have the article but Eli was talking with JohnHufnagel on the train ride home. John told him to talk about what he liked to do if I remember correctly and that led to the offense being simplified for Eli and you know the rest.
