Taylorized56
Not really surprised by this. Delgado to return to Mets in 2009 as team exercises option NEW YORK -- Carlos Delgado's $12 million option for next year has been exercised by the New York Mets. Following a terrible start, the 36-year-old first baseman hit .308 with 27 homers and 80 RBIs in 84 games from June 27 on. That left him with a final average of .271 with 38 homers and 115 RBIs. New York had until Wednesday to exercise the option. If the Mets had declined, they would have owed him a $4 million buyout. Allstarjim
Me neither. I doubt they would've have been successful getting Teixeira and by doing this they are really just trying to get to 2010 and hopefully a Mike Carp or someone will emerge, or there is someone else on the free agent market they can target. I don't expect a big year from Delgado next year but if they shore up the 'pen and get more production from the corner outfield spots, then they don't need it.
