Giants' Burress vs. Pats CBs

Knee and ankle injuries limited Plaxico Burress to just one practice from the middle of September to late December, but he came through on Sundays for the Giants, leading them in receptions (70), yards (1,025) and touchdowns (12). Burress is feeling better, practicing more, and that has to be a big concern for the Patriots.

Green Bay cornerback Al Harris tried to play Burress man-on-man in the NFC Championship Game last week, and Burress beat him repeatedly, catching 11 passes for 154 yards. Whenever the Giants needed a big play, quarterback Eli Manning seemed to find Burress.

"We were throwing some things over the top, we were throwing some things back shoulder. We ran a few curls, we ran a few slants," Burress said after the NFC title game. "We just had any route we wanted."

Burress and Manning have a good chemistry going now. They made some nice adjustments in routes and throws last week in Green Bay.

In the season finale against the Patriots, Burress caught four passes for 84 yards and two touchdowns. Burress set up another score with a 52-yard reception over cornerback Ellis Hobbs.

The Patriots likely will commit resources to prevent Burress from repeating that performance. Patriots cornerback Asante Samuel is regarded as one of the top corners in the NFL. Samuel is due to become an unrestricted free agent and could be playing his last game with the Patriots.

Al Harris was one of the top CB's in the league, how do you think Plax will fare against Samuel? And is Samuel worth taking a shot at like we shoulda last yr?

Like what Dikta said this morning, top teams have the ability to take the opposing teams top threat out of the game. You saw that with Moss only having 2 cathes in the post season, you saw that with what we did with Grant. The important thing is for Amani and Smith to take advantage of the situation. The Pats are't going to let Plax man handle amuel, and if he does early, you can be damned sure they will make the adjustments to counter it. Toomer and Steve have to make the adjustments when the ats do get open for sure completions, move the chains etc.

BTW, isn't it amazing how much Plax seems to have grown up this year? Most of us have been very hard on him, and rightfully so, from attitude to drops, but he has been a man this year. I pray Shock notices.

Absolutley. Its like a 180 degree turn for the better. He's got heart, not makin excuses and shows up for every play. I commend him on his season. But youre right about Smith and Toomer, they REALLY need to step up, cause Im sure Plax is gonna garner some attention.
