  1. At least he got to play alongside a supervillain.
  2. Mike Sweeney is one of the most tragic players in our generation of baseball players. Agree or Disagree? Honestly, the man has immense talent, can hit for average, power, take a walk, and doesn't strike out. Shame he gets stuck on some damn shitty Royals teams and somehow can't escape the injury bug which has burrowed deep into his body and begun laying little injury eggs.
  3. Though last night's game was an amazing one...especially for Sunday Night Baseball. I don't know, they somehow find a way to get the great games. Honestly, what a duel between both Maddux and Bonds and Maddux and Schmidt.
  4. Plow, you can't realistically put the Yankees at top, especially with their middle relief woes. Granted you could slug your way through any series, your number one starter still has a 5 era. 1. Mets 2. Tigers 3. White Sox 4. Yankees 5. Red Sox
  5. He'll never fill in Varitek's shoes in terms of being the captain of the team but Lopez is capable of filling in offensively and with Varitek's role as pretty much a disabled coach, maybe the harm won't be as big as it seems. You know that, Plow, stop trying to pick arguments.
  6. Agreed! This will help the team, there's no doubt about that.
  7. His defense is overrated because he makes a few amazing plays that are on the highlight reels because he's in NY. Not saying he's not okay defensively, just that there are many that are better.
  8. Seriously, this was the best move the Red Sox could make. They're only responsible for his contract for the rest of the season so half of his salary for the year has likely been paid for and we prolly didn't have to give up much consider we were saving the Orioles money. There was no we we could start Mirabelli or Huckaby for 4-6 weeks so Lopez will help. I'll take his lesser defense for a possible decent bat in the lineup. Maybe a happier Lopez and a change of scenery will help him, you never know. The move helps the team, there's no doubting that.
  9. There was a comeback tonight! And I was there! In the Home Street Pavilion Seats. Directly behind home plate. At 195 dollars a pop. Free.
  10. A Mirabelli/Huckaby platoon. In terms of offense, even though Tek was hitting around .240, he still had 50 RBIs and was doing well in the power numbers too. Mirabelli could match him offensively but in terms of handling the pitching staff...we may be in trouble. A positive note is that Varitek is staying around the team basically as a coach now to help Mirabelli, huckaby, and all the young pitchers.
  11. That's quite arguable. His won teammate Reyes is going to give him a run, along with the likes of Albert Pujols and David Wright, though Wright has fallen off of late. Cabrera should get a decent number of votes but not many top ones.
  12. Gold glove SS... I know you think that the sportswriters are being unfair saying he's not as solid defensively as people think, but even so, he's not gold glove quality. I'm not agreeing that he's the worst along with Michael Young, but he's not gold glove quality. Now Mr. Alex Gonzalez, ooh la la.
  13. And Beltran adds a two run shot today...back to back 2 HR 5 RBI days and now another HR. 5 HRs and 12 RBI in his last 3 games.
  14. Well, Jaret Wright has actually been really lucky. He's survived with a .301 BA against and a 1.58 WHIP despite low strikeout rates. His era should be well above the 4.73 it's at now.
  15. Yah, I had the same thoughts. I was discussing with my friend the other day how Schmidt would be the best fit, a number one starter who can lead the team and push Beckett. I honestly don't think Beckett's ready for the number one status yet. I predict that Lester wills tart the eyar in the rotation though, as sort of a reward for what he's done this year. Clement will either be traded in the offseason or kept around as a long reliever type...despite his hefty contract.
  16. Oops...I guess I really wanted to get that point across.
  17. He strikes out a lot because he takes a lot of pitches. He's actually been criticized for taking too many pitches with runners on, trying to get the walk rather than swing the bat. I'd take his strikeouts for his league leading walk total. Plow, wanna trade for Abreu?

  23. I doubt they'd just flip Abreu, especially considering his contract. Abreu's talents fit in perfectly with the Yankees organization, his .427 OBP ranks sixth in the majors and first in the NL in walks...and the Yankees short right field porch should help Abreu improve his power numbers. I'm still fuming a bit over this deal...now I'm gonna have to trade Abreu off my fantasy team.
  24. I think he has "willingly" tried to make more contact than hit the longball. If you look up groundball to flyball ratios, Jeter is leading the majors at 3.86 clip followed by Luis Castillo at 3.17 and Juan Pierre at 2.54. Jeter is able to utilize his plus speed. I do give him kudos for realizing that power isn't his game and aiming more toward becoming the good number 2 hitter he is, but it isn't exactly sacrificing the power, he's just finding new ways to help his team.
