  1. I was following that game on the computer and saw that it was 4th & 1 from the 25 and thought about that, but I really don't think you can go for it in that situation. First of all, I don't know if it was a long yard or a short yard, but if you don't make it, you're basically giving the game away, and a tie, while it sucks, is better than a loss.

  2. Well, I've had Youkilis>Pedroia, but that's me. Why do you think the Yankees threw at him so much? It wasn't to back him off the plate. It was to kill him.

It wasn't the Yankees as much as Joba, who's an idiot. You don't throw at a guy's head once, let alone three times. Listen- Pedro hit many a Yankee, but it was always around the midsection. When he threw at Karim Garcia's head, that was over the line and a bush-league move.

Anyway, yeah, for some reason, every Yankee fan I know hates- hates Kevin Youkilis. I don't understand it. To me, the guy is as hard-nosed as they come, and he's good. Is it the whininess? O'Neill used to be the same way. They just wanna win bad.

  3. If the USC game sucked balls, I hope you caught the Alabama-LSU game earlier that day. I never watch college football until the bowl games usually, but my wife's family all went to Alabama and are rabid Tide fans. They were going nutso.

As for the Gs, glad we won the game, we didn't play particularly well, yet responded every time we needed to. I don't know what all the hurdling shit is all about, but somebody needs to explain to our guys not to leave their feet. Somebody's gonna get hurt, or fumble (again).

I was watching with my wife, and didn't notice the Eagle cheerleaders. ;)

  4. Haha, well, maybe '03-'07. There's a reason we buried him in middle relief this year.

Again, though, I'm talking about the entire span of time. Obviously this year he was garbage.

What do you think about Masterson, rotation or bullpen? Honestly, I like him in the bullpen for now, and I feel like his presence defines everyone else's roles a lot more clearly. Delcarmen, though he can still be better, has settled nicely into a good pitcher. So, Papelbon, Okajima, Masterson, Delcarmen...that's a great way to end a game. We'll need a fifth starter/bullpen Tavarez type though.

Tough call on Masterson. He was pretty good as a starter last year, and you don't want to stunt his growth in that regard by relegating him to the 'pen. But I'd rather go into next year with 5 solid Major League starters (so add a Lowe or someone else through free agency) and let the kids (Buchholz,Masterson, Bowden) continue to develop slowly. At this point, it's easier to find a 4th starter than a reliever of his caliber.

As for Delcarmen, unfortunately, I don't know if I share your enthusiasm. He just seems to be schizo- unhittable for a week, then he can't get anybody out. You would think he'd have it figured out by now. I'm still for keeping him around, but I don't know if he's ever gonna reach his full potential.

  5. Youre wasting your time. Mickeef has a variety of mental illnesses. Most important being he is an energy vampire. he has no reflection and does not think he exists without conflict. He needs attention to prove he is alive and that people can see him. He literally cannot distinguish between positive and negative attention. Basically he is dead until you provide him energy, the more you rail at him, the more excited he gets.

Another illness he has is paranoia. He treats people badly and then gets righteous when they react badly to them; as if they were attacking him from nowhere.

    Theres more but why vother?

You, my friend, are the master of irony. Great job! :TU:

  6. I think the yankees are going to go with Nady in rf. The yankees need to sign or trade for at least 1 outfielder. Id love to have Manny, but he is more of a dh. if they can trade Matsui for Dejesus, I all for it.

That's one negative point I forgot to list above. The Yanks need to get better defensively in the OF, and adding Manny doesn't exactly head you in that direction (However, I still think he's a better option defensively than Matsui or Damon).

  7. I don't want Manny because he played for you guys. It's because, as I stated, he would take the pressure off Arod.

I think you misunderstood what I was saying. I meant that many Yankee fans said they didn't want Damon (right after they signed him) or don't want Manny, because they were on the Sox. I just want good players on my team, who cares where they're from (and hey, if I can tweak my rival in the process, all the better!). Sox fans and Met fans do it, too, but it seems to be much more widespread among Yankee fans.

  8. His age is sure a gamble, even with only a 3 yr contract. On the plus side, it would take a lot of pressure off the big wuss hitting in front of him. I think he would be primarily a DH in NY. The problem there is what to do with Matsui.

I would go for it. Wtf, it ain't my money.

Haha, that's the spirit. Seriously, how could you not want Manny if you were a Yankee fan? Because he played for the Red Sox? I never understood that logic. Anyway, yeah, he would probably have to play out in the field because your other options are Matsui and Damon. Sad to say, I think Manny's a better outfielder than either one of them.

  9. What makes this interesting is that there are so many factors at play here for the Yankees.

-He's probably the greatest right-handed hitter that your main rival has ever had, and he obviously has bitter feelings toward them.

-He just single-handedly carried a team from the middle of the pack to the NLCS.

-His skills seemed to be diminishing before he switched leagues. Was this a result of unhappiness, or pitchers who knew how to get him out?

-Signing him would go against your desire to get younger and build from within.

-You haven't had great luck lately with free agents.

-You need a right fielder, and right field in Yankee Stadium is relatively easy defensively.

    -He's almost 37 years old.

-He has a history of lackadaisical play and attitude, and your manager is a no-nonsense guy.

-He has roots in the city.

-You're moving into a new ballpark, and there's at least a slight need to make a splash after missing the playoffs.

When all is said and done, I just don't think they're gonna be able to resist. I think the thing they'll keep coming back to is what he did for the Dodgers. Blu, I don't think any of the things you said about LA will matter to him if the Dodgers don't write the biggest check.

  10. Interested to hear your take, Yankee fans. The talk about the Yankees signing him has already begun, whether it's true or not. Would you want them to sign him? If so, at what price and for how long would you be willing to go?

You're right. With over 2,000 posts on a message board, I probably wouldn't have time for any meaningful friendships.

  12. Whatever the case may be, if and when the Sox beat the Yankees in an important game next year (playoffs), there will be NO stories of them bringing down the mighty Yankees. It just will not be a big deal because they share the top payroll bracket with 2 or 3 other teams including the Mets.

You don't think that might have just a little to do with the fact that the Yankees aren't mighty anymore?

  13. Keef, contributions were made by the Red Sox' waterboy too. I'm talking in the present. "Contibutions" made by the players you mentioned were merely try-outs for the majors. Didn't help nor hurt the team in any way.

That was Lorf citing those players, not me. However, the Sox did get major contributions this year from 8 players that came up through their system (Lester, Papelbon, Pedroia, Youk, Masterson, Delcarmen, Ellsbury, Lowrie), and more than just a handful of games from from Moss & Hansen (before they were traded), and Buchholz. Their farm system is stocked. Your contention that the Sox payroll is "skyrocketing" (which suggests spiraling out of control), again, couldn't be more wrong. It has held steady now for the last few years, and no matter what they spend this offseason, Manny, Schilling, and at least a big chunk of Varitek's salaries come off the books. As for the rivalry, like Lorf said, I think it is what it is- the regular season games are still big, but they're not like playoff games, and the two teams haven't met there in 4 years.

  14. Fear you? I guess you could look at it that way.

I fear you will stop drinking and popping pills long enough to put together a coherent thought.

I fear you will remove all plaid shorts and tube socks from your wardrobe.

I fear you will lose the man-boobs and get hair plugs.

I fear you will give me a swift whack with your cane.

I fear you will quit Sportswrath again in a whiny hissy fit because people are making fun of you, like you did a few months ago.

I also fear that you're gonna come to my house, boil my pet rabbit, and take my kid on a roller coaster ride, but that just started this morning. :o

  15. Photoshop- the last resort of the humorless.

Plaid shorts and tube socks would've been dorkier.

*Note- the photo below is not photoshopped. The man-boobs, pasty skin, and pocket full of god-knows-what are all 100% real. Definitely a happening look when you're walking (er, gimping) around New York City.
