  1. ND beating PSU doesn't change the fact that they're the most overrated team in the country. PSU's defense looked shitty after the 2st quarter, but they've still got the best linebackers in football. They just have no defensive line other than Alford. It's not the fact that ND put up big points that worries me - they've got an awesome offense, it's the fact that PSU couldn't do shit against a very mediocre ND defense. All I can say about that game is "eeeewwww." And if there has to be a team that PSU loses to, I don't mind it so much being ND. Don't get me wrong, PSU is and always will be my team, but I've always liked ND too.
  2. Well to be fair, I haven't seen Rudi around the board at all in a while, not just that thread.
  3. I absolutely will be, I've always been a PSU fan.
  4. Thursday: Miami at Pittsburgh - 8:30 p.m. - Pittsburgh - Still have an awesome D and running game, Big Ben is incredibly overrated. Sunday: Atlanta at Carolina - 1:00 p.m. - Carolina - If Smith plays. Atlanta if he doesn't. Baltimore at Tampa Bay - 1:00 p.m. - Tampa - Defensive battle, Tampa gets the edge. Buffalo at New England - 1:00 p.m. - New England - No brainer. Cincinnati at Kansas City - 1:00 p.m. - Cincinnati - KC gives them a game, But Cincy is too much. Denver at St. Louis - 1:00 p.m. - Denver - New Orleans at Cleveland - 1:00 p.m. - New Orleans - NO potentially has a good offense this season. N.Y. Jets at Tennessee - 1:00 p.m. - New York - Tough one, but I think NY comes out on top. Philadelphia at Houston - 1:00 p.m. - Philly - Another no brainer Seattle at Detroit - 1:00 p.m. - Seattle A third no brainer Chicago at Green Bay - 4:15 p.m. - Chicago - Defense wins it for them, and Thomas Jones is a good back Dallas at Jacksonville - 4:15 p.m. - Jacksonville - Two very good defenses, but Jax takes it. San Francisco at Arizona - 4:15 p.m. - Arizona - Very good skill positions on Offense, not sold on the O line though. Indianapolis at N.Y. Giants - 8:15 p.m. - I'm not touching this one. Heart says G-Men, gut says Indy. Monday: Minnesota at Washington - 7:00 p.m. - Washington - still have a good D, Minny has Brad Johnson and Todd Pinkston  San Diego at Oakland - 10:15 p.m. - San Diego - Oakland just flat out sucks.
  5. I can't wait for this game, it's gonna be a good one. I think ND is probably the most overrated team in college football right now (well maybe besides Cal), but still a damn good team. PSU is underrated, and have a very good defense, including the best linebacking corps in the country. I'm not sold on Morelli, but I like the receivers in Williams Butler and Norwood. The O line looked pretty bad last week, they're gonna need to get their shit together and open up some holes for Tony Hunt, who's a damn good back. Should be a good one, I'm looking foward to it...JoePa won't be holding anything back this week, he fucking hates ND.
  6. With the improvement both players made in their games just since coming up to the majors, it's hard for me to think that either of them are going to be anything but superstars for years to come. Burrell's big season (the one that got him a big contract) was for 37 homers and about 115 RBIs, which pales in comparison to what Howard is doing right now. I think Hamels has another year (maybe 2) left on his contract, but yeah he does look like he's going to be a stud. I do like the face of this team right now (not necessarily for the playoffs this year, but for the future), guys like Victorino and Utley are just a helluva lot of fun to watch. They just need to get a bat behind Howard, preferably a 3rd baseman, but I'm not sure what the FA market looks like this year, and they'll be in good shape. I like their top 3 starters in Myers, Hamels and Wolfie, and maybe even keep Lieber around, but the bullpen is in shambles with just a few exceptions.
  7. If the Phils don't lock up Howard and Utley, I will swear off being a fan for the rest of my life. Utley's contract is up after this year, and Howard has another year (or maybe two, I forget), but I don't want to see him playing for $390k again next year. I don't think either of them are the Pat Burrel type, they're sure things.
  8. He's already in pinstripes...and he looks pretty damn good.
  9. 77? No, I was 3 years old. I do somewhat remember the 81 season though, when I was a whopping 7 years old. "Who fucking cares!" - Obviously, you do, or else you wouldn't be making such a fuss when people don't spend their days on a message board arguing about whether or not Eli sucks. If only "true fans" do that, then I guess I'm not a true fan. I guess it never occured to you that some of us may have the opportunity to talk football very often face to face with people, and only come on message boards to bullshit and kill some time. 40 years of games would be a difficult feat for me considering that I'm only turning 32 this year.
  10. According to Monty, participating in this thread makes me a "true" Giants fan. Forget the fact that I've seen near every Giants game for aboutt 30 years, posting here makes me a real fan.
  11. Abreu is a damn good player, no doubt about that, but he just had to go. Too goddamn lazy for my taste. Unloading him gave the Phils a chance to play some younger guys everday, and they've worked out great. Lidle always pitches well in the second half of the season - especially now that he's in a contract year. If you guys sign him, don't expect much from him in the future.
  12. With the NL as pathetic as it is, the Phils have a legit shot at the Wild Card. But getting Moyer isn't really pushing for the playoffs, they just want a decent pitcher to fill out the rotation because the young guy they have up now (Mathieson) just isn't ready yet, he's going back down to the farm. Abreu had to go, too much money for the half assed effort. That was a pure salary dump, he's not part of the future of this team, and he shouldn't be. Besides, the Phils have been playing great (and been a hell of a lot of fun to watch) since they unloaded Abreu and co.
  13. That's why a lot of people didn't like him here in Philly...most people more or less tolerated him because he put up good offensive numbers. I've always gotten the impression from Abreu that he doesn't care about team performance, just as long as he has his numbers.
  14. Bobby Abreu's defense is terrible. He won a Gold Glove (which was a complete joke and completely undeserved) because of his good fielding percentage - which he had only because he makes no attempts to go after balls, so he makes no errors. He does have an absolute cannon for an arm though. I'm a Phillies fan, so I like to see any Phillie get awards and individual recognition like that, but Abreu winning a Gold Glove was absolutely ridiculous.
  15. "Cautious optomism." I like that a lot better than the "pessimist asshole" my old man calls me. No inside information for me, but I live in Philly and am constantly exposed to the Eagles whether I like it or not, so I do know a lot about the team itself. The have very good lines on both sides of the ball, and that's where games are won and lost. The only way I see them running the ball though is if Westbrook somehow figures out a way to go through the middle or if they discover a power back who can grind it out - both of which look doubtful. I agree that they're going to end up passing a lot - but even with no name WRs McNabb has proven that he can be successful in that game, just so long as the passes aren't over 10 yards. Either way, predictions don't mean a thing. That's why they play the games.
  16. Hell he only gave up 30 some runs in 120 games over those two years...Plus 25 or so walks. He was solid as they come for us in save situations. It was when he pitched and it wasn't a save situation that he sucked, that's probably where most of those runs came from too.
  17. Yeah, like I said Wags was one of the few players on the team at the time that I had confidence in.
  18. I find it incredibly naive to think that way, but whatever floats yer boat.
  19. It's funny, the Eagles keep on talking about running more...but who are they gonna run? They have those two fast but tiny RBs, they don't have anyone who can pound it down the middle.
  20. He did fine in Philly. 7 blown saves in about 70 save opportunities over two years. Wagner was one of the few spots on the team I had confidence in.
  21. Not dogging me out at all I hope (I'm a Giants fan). I'm also realistic though and not about to give the division to the Giants when there are 3 other very talented teams in the way. The Eagles had an off year - especially the defense which isn't all that old from what I know with the exception of Dawkins - and I see no reason to believe that they're gonna be the pushovers they were last year.
  22. A good draft. A healthy McNabb. An underachieving defense that seemed to have an off year. No more TO drama. Good lines on both sides of the ball. There are plenty of reasons. I'd like nothing more than a clean sweep of the Eagles (and the rest of the NFC East) but the realist in me says otherwise. There is no clear cut "best" in the division right now - though as of right now I'm inclined to believe that the top 2 teams are Big Blue and the Eagles.
  23. The Eagles haven't had a good WR corps in recent memory...except when they had TO...they still managed to do pretty well. I fear people are greatly underestimating them.
