EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) - Eli Manning says he has a good relationship with Plaxico Burress. His No. 1 receiver wasn't talking about it on Wednesday, turning down pleas from the Giants' public relations staff to talk to the media on the opening day of minicamp.

Burress hasn't said anything since the Giants were beaten 23-0 by the Carolina Panthers in the opening round of the playoffs.

Held without a catch, Burress waved his hands in frustration several times during the game when he felt he was open and Manning didn't get him the ball. The receiver, who was signed as a free agent last year, didn't report to the stadium the following day for a season-ending team meeting.

Burress also did not participate in voluntary workouts in the offseason, opting to train in Florida with tight end Jeremy Shockey.

""You don't have to be best friends with everybody," Manning said after a morning workout Wednesday. "As long as everybody is on the same page and has the same goal of working hard and getting better and winning games, then I think that is fine. We're lockermates. We see each other daily. We have a good relationship." quote]

Manning said he has spoken with Burress a few times in recent weeks, addressing nothing specific. He downplayed Burress' onfield antics in the playoff game.

"He was upset. We didn't have a good game," said Manning, who was 10-for-18 for 113 yards and four interceptions against the Panthers. "Everybody on this team is competitive and wants to win and do well. A lot of people were frustrated and that's how he expressed it."

Coach Tom Coughlin said he spoke with Burress about missing the team meeting after the season ended. Coughlin would not comment on what was said.

During the morning workout on Wednesday, Manning found Burress with a pass on a slant route, and he hooked up with Shockey on a couple of plays.

Shockey showed up for the minicamp sporting a black eye. He blamed it on a training accident in Florida last week.

He also said he thought there was plenty of leadership on the team.

"The older people, like Tiki Barber and Michael Strahan, when those guys talk, those are the guys I listen to, the guys who have been here eight, nine, 10, 11 or 12 years," he said. "Those are the leaders on this team."

Center Shaun O'Hara felt too much was being made of Burress.

"We have a lot of things going on," O'Hara said. "No way on the first day of minicamp are we worried about team chemistry."

He also downplayed the absence of Burress and Shockey from the voluntary workouts, saying no one wants to work out with somebody who doesn't want to be there.

O'Hara said the players were more interested in Shockey's black eye.

"I think we were all wondering whether coach gave it to him," O'Hara said.

that quote sounds awfully familiar

  3. since they left, you don't even have users on this section anymore.

i come here to bash the giants and i can't find anyone to listen

the mods need to beg the fab four for forgiveness so we can get things the way they were.......please start a petition asking them to come back

    thanks for listening

  4. we all know that eli isn't on any steroids, creatine, supplements, or even a serious weight-lifting program but what about other giants??

    here's my guess:

strahan, for obvious reasons........he, like barry bonds, seems to get better with age. athletes his age are supposed to regress, but he shows no signs of slowing down

    tiki.....see strahan reasoning

luke petigout. the guy is a machine. he's built top heavy and his head is much larger now than when he came in as a rookie......clear indication of rampant steroid use

lavar arrington--steroids eats away at muscles and cartilage in the neck.....see picture ArringtonLavar2a.jpg

  5. I don't advocate violence, though I am surprised that someone doesn't take a corrective measure with that/those guy(s).

I mean, I would think that someone would throw a whippin' on one of those cats if they introduced themselves at a game.

No mind you, I don't advocate hurting someone, I'm merely stating that it wouldn't shock me.

I live in OHio, so it's not even a possibiliity, however I know plenty of people from back home who aren't nearely as tolerant.

Being a nuisane (even on a message board) could have repercussions with the wrong kind of person. If I was Floyd and co., I expect I'd keep a low profile at tailgates, etc.

man have you gotten sensitive in your old age.......this is an internet messageboard

stop taking yourselves so seriously

  6. yeah, you're right they love their alma mater because of the strong academic program . They like the success they had and the training program, so even pros from different teams share the regimen, it's not like they went to remedial math and 101 Humanities.

I see no difference in sharing the same practices between pros from different teams, same alma mater or not, so Tiki's fine.

Besides, Westbroke is going to be lucky to have Tikis' career.

Paging Andy Reid: Run the ball.

    :LMAO:

are you serious???? of course not

  7. I disagree with the distinction that Bonds was as great then as he is now. I also assert that LT also was punished for breaking the rules.

Whether he did or did not use during games is conjecture, so if you can put an asterisk by maybe sort of's, then do it. Otherwise, it's like another the whole Strahan sack asterisk, hard to prove, never going to happen, not really an issue.

"I'd go through an ounce a day. And at times I'd be standing in the huddle. And instead of thinking what defense we were playing I'd be thinking about smoking crack after the game ."

    read the first sentence..........nuff said

  8. Everyone knows LT did drugs, but no matter how you look at it drugs wouldn't affect his game play in a positive way if anything it would of taken away from his skills. LT was great w/ or without coke. Not being a homer it's common sense, to say coke is what made him great is just plain stupid if that where the case I would be on coke 24/7 and I would be an NFL Superstar.

i never said coke made lawrence a great player.....but bonds was also a great player before the allegations and now it seems to have tarnished his entire career.

    why not taylor

coke is banned for a reason

  9. How is that not being smart wut is wrong with tryin to help some one out it's not like its going to help out the Eagles anyways. You cant just be durable you gotta be good too.

if you haven't noticed, westbrook DESTROYS the Giants when they play.....with tiki's secret recipe, no opponent is safe

  10. Having gone to the same college isn't necessarily a stronger bond than being two of the 33 starters in the same position within an elite league so, I don't see any suprise in the information sharing between two men in the same situation.

I suppose the only question is "why Andy Reid isn't calling other coaches to find out how to use Westrbook more effectively."

haven't you heard the way these guys talk about their school. the love and respect they have for playing at the "U" is rivaled only by notre dame football players. and don't tell me it's because thye have so many players in the NFL because I don't hear FSU guys gushing over their school

too bad pe-li doesn't have any mississippi alumn in the NFL to bond with :cwy:

  11. So why is he not so smart for not trying to help an opponent?

This thread should read, "D4P, is really a good guy, but not so smart."

I fail to see what training tips has to do with good strategy when many standout players from the U all train together in the offseason and it seems to be a strong program....maybe they should all be hush-hush.

all the players from miami share a bond....what bond does tiki and westbrook share??

  12. Link

Accorsi said he has "no problem" with Tiki Barber giving Eagles running back Brian Westbrook workout tips. Westbrook, hoping to gain the durability that Barber has found, recently reached out to the Giants back about his training regime. While Barber did not make direct contact, his business agent, Mark Lepselter, last week called the office of Eagles coach Andy Reid and provided the phone number for Joe Carini, former winner of the New Jersey Strongest Man competition, who is Barber's workout guru.

"I don't think there's any concern about helping out a fellow guy in the league," Lepselter said.

Accorsi said, "Tiki knows what he's doing."

  13. One helps tremendously and one not nearly so much.

Pre-steroid allegation or pre-steroid? You should check his #'s for the later.

how do you know? ever played football high on coke? how much of it did he take? what about crack? he admitted taking it since his 3rd year. i've never seen studies on the effects of cocaine and crack on athletes, but i'm sure there are some effects.

bonds was well on his way to the HOF before the allegations

  14. I'd like to do a rail of the coke that enabled him to do all that. All I can do is play poker for hours on the internet with out blinking.

You make coke out to be more than it is and was he snappin' back lines on the bench to stay fresh? I think he would have keeled over from heart failure. Snorting lines and doing very strenuous things is a killer.

i never said the man wasn't a supreme athlete....he was unquestionably one of the greatest players to ever lace 'em up. however, the same can be said for the pre-steroid allegation barry bonds.

my question is if you're going to knock one man because he took an illegal substance while playing, why not the other?

  15. Bonds gets bigger and stronger with alledged sterios use. I don't recall seeing Taylor getting more frail and whithered.

I'm not sure if it's even close: a performance enhancing drug compared to a highly addictive narcotic that tends to debilitate users over extended perios of time.

The good news is Giants fans know there won't be an asterisk; the bad news is that there is an asterisk every time this comes up and it always will.

not necessarily the point......no it didn't make him bigger or stronger, but did it give him an unfair advantage is the question

when guys would normally miss games because of injury, LT played with pain. Since cocaine numbs the body, did LT have an unfair advantage? When guys would get winded after a few plays and not be able to consistently accelerate to pursue the qb/rb, did cocaine keep him alert and full of adrenaline?

did cocaine allow him to recklessly throw his body into opponents since he couldn't feel it?

    all those are legitimate questions
