  1. Money, I stand behind my belief that if Jackson is available we should draft him. But it seems highly unlikely at this point that he won't be left at #25 so I'm moving on. As I see it, our needs are in roughly this order:

Starting CB, #3 WR, LB, FS, DT, Nickel/4th CB.

I think it's widely accepted that we will sign either Will Allen or a comparable FA to start opposite Webster. Given the quality of LB's in the draft, I think it makes sense to draft one in the first or second round. How important do you think our acquiring a FS is? I think Butler will be fine (maybe he ends up being good) but regardless we need some quality depth and maybe someone that can start over him. But if the Giants really think that he is the long-term answer at FS then the need at FS drops in priority. I'm just not sure about Butler... thoughts?

I think spending a 2nd or 3rd round pick on a WR can be a waste. I think that WR's, once you get out of the first round are very questionable and are hit or miss. If we don't go WR in the first round, I'd rather use the pick on other, safer positions. So this means, acquiring a solid #3 via FA.

What's the latest on the Clancy situation?? IMO, Fred Robbins is not going to cut it and this is an issue that is being overlooked. We need to grab a solid, run stopper in FA b/c I dont see the giants going w/ DT early in the draft.

So I guess this is my breakdown, assuming Jackson, Holmes and Moss will be gone by the time we pick (even if moss is left, not sure if I want him).

#1 CB- sign w.a or FA

LB - Round 2 of the draft

Round 1 Pick - BPA at CB, FS, and even DT. I think we've got lots of flexibility/needs here and shouldnt get caught up on drafting a certain position. I also don't think we should take a LB here unless there is truly a top guy b/c I don't want to take LB rounds 1 and 2... and I think LB in round 2 could be great value pick.

WR - Get a solid guy via FA. Someone who has not been injury prone.

Round 3-4: Take whichever positions we didnt take in round 1, going BPA available first.

Sorry, this ended up longer than I intended. Thoughts? also, money what's your problem w/ emmons? I know he's not a long-term solution, but neither is Toomer. The question is, is he this year's solution? I'd say yes, especially if we draft a backup. I dont have a problem w/ him starting, can you explain why you don't like emmons?

    This is not true...

Todd Pinkston, Koren Robinson, Freddie Mitchell, Peter Warrick, and Peerless Price all were all 1st round drat busts.

On the other hand guys like Andre Reed, T.O. and Issac Bruce were all drafted past round 1.

So I think ANY player drafted is either "hit or miss".

  2. I'd only do it if the Giants got a really good SS (i.e. someone better than Gibril), which is why I brought up Tank Williams (who I like a lot as a player ... great in run support and the type of "intimidator" that Pierce said the secondary has been lacking). Otherwise, I'd prefer to keep Gibril in place and let him continue to develop. He was guilty of quite a few mental mistakes last season, so I'm not sure if burdening him with a position change will be beneficial. Plus, he has a tendency to whiff on a lot of arm tackles, which is not a good quality for the FS ... often the last player between the opponent and the goal line...

What do you think of guys like Greg Blue and Dwayne Slay. I'm just curious because I hear mixed opinions about them and haven't had the time to really get info on these guys (fucking mid-terms :furious: )

  3. I'm still firmly on the Jamaar Taylor bandwagon. He's my boy.

As am I considering he showed us he could make plays when healthy, unlike Tim Carter. If we were to go into the season with him as our 3rd WR (completely healthy I might add) I would not be worried at all.

  4. If the Giants sign Chris Hope or even Ryan Clark or Tank Williams (thereby moving Gibril to FS), I doubt safety will remain a high priority on draft day. I would prefer the Giants look for a short-term solution in free agency and long-term solution in the draft, but I would not be heartbroken if they went for Hope or Williams.

I like the idea of moving Gibril to FS. He is not big enough as a SS and most of his production (rookie year) came at the FS spot.

  5. Somehow I don't think a 3rd WR will help us all that much in the redzone. Do we have room for improvement in the Red Zone? Yes. But we were greatly improved in that area this year as compared to last year. I think Eli growing as a QB is all we need in that area. Burress, Shockey, and Toomer are all very good in the Red Zone. Each of them had 7 TDs last year. But if Stovall is there in the second I would not be opposed to that pick. But then again if there is a defensive guy that is available that fell to us, that could help us, I'd rather us go in that direction.

I agree that we need to improve and that Eli's development will make our red zone offense more productive but if Stovall is there it's almost a sure bet that we should take him because he'd add another dimension to our offense, and also could become Amani's future replacement. This is why I would like us to concentrate on defense for our 1st pick and then choose Stovall in the 2nd round. With all this said we can't forget about Jamaar Taylor. Though injured, this guy has shown what Tim Carter never could when he was on the field: He is a playmaker. A healthy Taylor definately improves our offense because we all saw sparks of great playmaking ability when he was on the field. The way I look at it our WR core would consist of Burress, Toomer, Taylor, Stovall, and Tyree, and after Amani moves on (though I do pray we can get him a ring) Plax, Stovall, and Taylor would be a lethal 1-2-3 combo.

  6. The historical and continued success of the NFL is rooted in the implementation and adherence to a ssalary cap. Anyone who cares about the overall wellfare of the league should be hoping that a new CBA is reached, otherwise a lot of the reasons behind the strength of the NFL are compromised.

Agreed. Look what the lack of a salary cap has done to baseball. I've nearly completely lost interest in the sport.

  7. Well, we need something that'll light a fire under our offenses ass especially in the red zone and hopefully a guy like Stovall can contribute to that. We need someone at WR, whether it's a veteran or a a rookie.

Yeah I agree but I also think Eli's progression will help with that as well. We need to utilize Shockey more in the redzone as well as using more screens to Tiki. I mean we have the weapons, we just need to execute more. Stovall would just be the icing on the cake for our red zone offense.

  8. There is definately the possibility that Alan Zemitas could be converted to FS in the NFL which wouldn't be a bad pickup. Also Dwayne Slay would be available in the later rounds if we were to look towards the draft to find a FS. Chris Hope would be a great FA addition if the price was right.

  9. realisticly speaking, id say in about 3 more years, at about this same time, we will be having this same discussion after the Giants release Eli Manning...

by then we will have 3 more full seasons worth of bad highlights, embarrassing moments, retarded facial expressions, hilariously awful press conferences ect...

lets put this down in writing...

It comes as no surprise that you would bring up Eli Manning in a thread that has nothing to do with him. Lose the obsession. <_<

  10. It cetainly is. The other board is full of silly lil retards that discuss the same things over and over, then say thing are so because they are. Because I said. It's annoying. Anyhow. def good times talking yaks. see ya over there.

Yeah I agree there are a lot of people there who have to clue what they are talking about (hell I might even be one of them) but that's what happens when you have a board the size of the GMB. The more this board grows, the more idiotic posters there will be. Just some food for thought.

  11. Still, I doubt the Steelers planned it this way.

Agreed, Staley hasn't done anything since arriving with the Steelers.

I'm sure it wasn't planned that way lol That wasn't my point. I just think if Jacobs could come in and grind out yards like Bettis did then other teams would have yet another weapon to worry about. The question is can he produce? We'll find out.

  12. Parker wasn't really used as a spark. He was more used as a last resort after Bettis and Staley went down in pre-season.

Yes at first. But afterwards he was the featured back while Bettis was used to spell him. Staley in my opinion has been a non factor in the NFL ever since he left philly.

  13. Very similar role unless we are in need of an offensive spark to start the season if Eli and Tiki are both struggling.

I agree. I think if we used him somewhat like the Steelers used Bettis to spell Parker, teams wouldn't key so much on Tiki because we all saw what happened when Tiki got shut down. As far as our RB of the future I can't tell whether Jacobs will become that but I do believe he deserves more carries to add that spark to our offense.
