Have you played organized football before? Do you know enough to coach? If you do, start with coaching. Go to a High School and see if they are looking for help on the coaching staff. Get experience there and then move on to the college ranks as a coach. Work your way up in the college ranks, do a good job there and then you can apply for a NFL teams scouting department. As crazy as it sounds it's like any other job, you have to work your way from the bottom up. It takes years, you cant just up and say "I'm going to be a NFL scout". It just dont work like that. You should have coaching experience, build up your resume.
Then once you make it that far, you're assigned an area and they send you a list of players in May. You rate the players based on size, speed, and level of the competition. Then you travel to all those colleges, every D-IA school. Sometimes even D-II schools if the player is rated high enough. You scout every player, you watch them practice, lift, and play. You have tape of the game and thats what you grade off of. You talk to all the coaches and trainers to get a good feel for his character and how hard he works. Every thing else is instinct.

Kiwanuka was a top 20 pick until the senior bowl...
Brick Ferguson made him his little bitch that week...in practice, drills, and the game
Funny D'Brick and Kiwanuka both played for the North, how exactly did D'brick make him his little bitch during the game?
Lets not talk out our ass, O.K.?
-
He has a chance to learn from two very talented pass rushing ends. He is a talented DE with great size but didnt perform well at the senior bowl. It was a surprising pick especially with the talent that was on the board at the time but a good pick. Nice post Hound.

He is a one gap DT....Seawright plays the nose and Duckett can play both...In order to make this team he would have to beat out Duckett and I don't see that happening...
Then you're saying he was signed for no reason...
Like I said he was signed to compete for a roster spot. Duckett and even Seawright are far from locks at making the final roster I dont care what DT spot they play.

Here's my list of the top undrafted rookies. I was going to create a new thread but this took a while and before I posted it I seen this thread. I have 5 per position and links to all including wild cards. If anyone wants me to put it in a new thread I can, no biggie.

I got creamed. No excuses.
...magic 8 ball my ass.
-
I dont want him, let someone else take him.
-
B
I agree.
-
Tommy Jackson, Rod Wright, and Le Kevin Smith are other DTs that are suprisingly still available and could be options for our last selection.
-
Sorry...I was off on a TANGENT....anyway, the DT's we had provided depth. I'm just wonderin' where the depth will come from. And can the guys we have on the interior part of the line play nose tackle? Because I feel that we will soon see a lotta 3-4 schemes.
*Going back for a walk* see ya!
Barry Cofield is a perfect replacement for Clancy but I think he has the potential to be much better against the run. Cofield can play nose and so can Robbins. I think we still can sign a vet for the min. and possibly even use our last selection on a DT or get a player as an undrafted free agent to compete with Duckett and Seawright. I think most fans are over reacting on our DT situation. We dont need an allstar tackle we just need role players in the middle who can occupy blockers and get the job done on a rotation. Im actually more worried about our DBs.
-
Thanks for posting that chart. It shows Cofield was among the strongest and most athletic DTs in this draft. He's a perfect fit here. Personally my favorite pick of the draft.
-
There seems to be a lot of mixed emtions about him among some of the "draft experts" on the net. I remember him vaguely in the few games I watched. The players who mostly caught my eye were Mark Anderson, Roman Harper, Freddie Roach, and Demeco Ryans. I got to watch parts of the Florida game and the LSU game. He was apart of one of the toughest defenses in the country. I think I actually remember him going for a big hit one game and he seriously wiffed, not 100% positive on that though.
-
As you can see, there aint a whole lotta DT's in free agency and the G men gave up TWO of them. Can this 'upside' guy spell relief duties for the one DT that we have??? Can he stuff the run???
I'm going for a walk....
Grady Jackson, Brenston Buckner, Jason Fisk, Brandon Noble can all be here at a fair price. When you say "the G men gave up TWO of them", who are you referring to? Kendrick Allen?
Lets be smart, this tackle has limited time at OT and has performed well enough to be drafted in the 4th. Take it for what its worth but Kiper had him as a 2nd or 3rd round prospect. Drafting a guy in the 4th round who can potential start at LT in a few years must be a mistake though... what is EA thinking?
You said "for the one DT we have" . . . . umm last I checked Joseph and Robbins are still on roster. Now we have Cofield and we can still get a FA DT, we can possibly even draft one or sign a undrafted player to compete.
Lets not act as if Clancy and Allen were such a key part to our success last season.
-
I wouldnt be surprised if we went with these guys either.
TE:
Quinn Sypniewski
Cooper Wallace
C:
Greg Eslinger
G:
Fred Mauta
-
Marcus Hudson was a good choice.
Some top players available are
DT:
Rod Wright
Jess Mahelona
Babatunde Oshinowo
LeKevin Smith
Montavious Stanely
Tommy Jackson
LB:
A.J. Nicholson
Kevis Coley
Kai Parham
Dale Robinson
CB:
Dee Webb
Anwar Phillips
One player I like is still there and thats WR Jeff Webb. But I cant see us going WR.
-
Hate that Overused expression for players...*upside*. Fuck an UPSIDE...we needed TWO DT not some project OT.
You're acting as if the draft is over or we cant dip into free agency. Chill out, take a deep breath or go take a quick walk outside and get some fresh air.
-
I was really pulling for LeKevin Smith, and I'm not quite sure why he's gone yet, unles it's off-the field issues. He's got a much different playing style than Cofield, really quick and disruptive off the snap.
Smith could be dropping because of his injuries. I still wouldnt be surprised if we grabbed another.
-
I can't even make any kind of judgement on this pick. I haven't gotten one glimpse of him in action, and I'm just starting to read some of these scouting reports. Seems like he can have more upside than the remaining OT's on the board.
I dont think anyone watched enough to make a sound judgement. I seen one ECU game this season vs WVU I remember the name (it does stand out). Dont remember too much about him though.
-
This is pitiful - next round he will draft a guy named pussy!
You seem more worried about his name then if he can actually play football.
-
Yea I like this pick. I think he is a very good project. Tackles that have quick feet are hard to find. He has a lot of upside.
What does this mean for the development of Justin Tuck?

Nothing, because you can never have enough pass rushers.
