  1. Yea nobody is giving two 1st for JPP but JPP is a top ten DE.

For one, There aren't many DEs that play as many defensive snaps as he does. Keeping him fresher could go a long way in making him a more consistent pass rusher. Besides getting burned by the zone read he's probably the best 4-3 DE against the run. He could also benefit from better LBers behind him as well as a better DC. His stock is going to go up with Spags as DC. His price will be higher at the end of next season so why prolong the inevitable. Hopefully we can get him signed for about 11 a year. I think that's fair for both sides.

  2. +1

I closed my book of judgment on this defense after Dallas ended their season for the 2nd year in a row.

    My defensive takeaways from 2014:

    Fewell needs to be replaced.

JPP is not irreplaceable (but I do think we should make an aggressive, not outlandish, effort to bring him back).

    McClain is a decent linebacker.

Kennard is someone you can build the LB corps around.

    Beason is unreliable

DRC, when healthy, is an impact defender.

    Rolle's stock is sliding

Kiwi's career as a starter is over.

    Hankins can play

    Moore can play

I'd add Ayers to that list. He can play. Prince impressed me as well.

We have the foundation of a good defense just need a new DC and a few more players.

  3. He could be predictable at times but it wasn't all bad under Gilbride. We've had some of our highest scoring offenses in team history while he called the plays. Some fans seem to forget that. McAdoo has done alright so far but it could be better. Beckham certainly has helped thats for sure.

It was time to move on from his system and all but Fewell should've gone as well. He's a year over due.

  4. I don't think he has the power for guard and think the struggles at tackle this year are due to being next to Jerry. I don't want to fill a hole by opening another hole

You might be able to get away with blaming Pughs struggles in the run game on Jerry but in pass blocking you can't. He's getting beat on the edge by subpar pass rushers.. Next year will be his third offseason in an NFL strength program, he'll be fine with the switch to guard especially in this offense.

  5. I'm totally against even the mention of Eli in a trade... Eli should retire a Giant... he can be very good when others around him are doing their freaking jobs...

And therein lies the problem. When a QB is paid as much as Eli is he has to be good enough to elevate the talent around him because his contract limits the supporting cast we can give him.

  6. Don't know why everyone wants OT...we don't need an OT. Also, I don't think one is worth taking in the top ten

I want an OT because I think Pugh will be average at best there but has potential to be a probowl caliber G. Beatty is playing well enough to keep at LT but if we get a guy now he can play RT until we move on from Beatty in a few years then switch to the left side. Pugh and Schwartz at guard and Richburg at C with a legit RT strengthens our line in one move.

  7. No team is stupid enough to give up a 1st rounder for Eli let alone an additional 4th... I'm not Pugh's size is big enough for a guard... I like Patterson and definitely Ayers.

See above post regarding Eli and his trade value. The going rate for a starting QB in this league is quite expensive.

Pugh just needs to get a little stronger. He's struggling at RT. I like Ayers, he's staying. Patterson needs upgraded.

  8. I think we're a year away from the coaches going. More PC to not resign Coughlin than to fire him. Can't say we'd be able to keep McAdoo if the head coach goes. Hiring another head coach and effectively telling them who their OC is going to be...just don't see that being all that attractive for HC prospects.

Trading Eli won't happen. One, no one is going to trade for a guy who has one year remaining and a hefty price tag at that. You'd have to find the team willing to trade for him AND willing to extend him. Further, if the Giants are willing to trade him, they're willing to cut him just the same, meaning a team could get him for free. So I don't think that's really going to happen.

Prioritizing BOTH lines I think is the way to go and enough

Haslet stuck around a few coaching changes in Washington. If I'm the new coach I'd look at McAdoo and consider it. See how it fits the personnel etc. Id want some consistency on O especially if I was a defensive minded coach. It has its advantages.

Remember what Oakland gave for Palmer? How about what Schaub went for when traded to Houston? Now throw in a guy who has two SB rings and the "Manning" last name add that with a few coaches and GMs that may never get another shot (Fisher/Snead for ex.) and who are just a QB away from contending. A team like that it makes a lot of sense. Obviously trade would only be agreed upon if Eli signs an extension. If we don't get what we want we don't trade him. Simple as that.

  9. If I'm Mara I clean house. Reese/Coughlin/Fewell are all gone. McAdoo stays depending on the next HC, I'd like some consistency on O. I'd look at the front office of the 49ers, Seahawks, Ravens, and Patriots for Reese's replacement. I'd interview Joe Lombardi (Lions OC), Greg Schiano, Vic Fangio (49ers DC), Todd Bowels (cards DC) for Coughlins replacemet.

I trade Eli to the highest bidder. He's not/hasn't played to his contract and its crippled us. Rams, Titans, Bills, Jets, Bucs, Texans would all probably be desperate enough to give a 1st and a 4th for him. I'd look at Hoyer or Locker as vets to compete with Nassib as well as a draft pick.

I prioritize fixing the OL. Keep Beatty at LT, slide Pugh In to Guard, draft a T with one of our 1st. Move Richburg to Center. Schwartz stays at Guard. I sign a vet swing tackle and keep Walton and Jerry as backups.

Donnell stays at TE but I find some legit competition for him. I see if a new coach can get more out of Randle before I give up on him, he's still very young and immature. Randle/OBJ/Cruz could be good for us but I'd look at signing/drafting a potential starting X.

Add a vet RB. I like Jennings and Williams with better blocking.

Most of the work would be on D. I resign Rolle, JPP (if he doesn't break the bank), Prince, and Thurmond. I'd gut the LBs besides Kennard and maybe Beason. Move on from Jenkins, Patterson, Kuhn, Kiwi.

  10. "@Patricia_Traina: Scary fact: --WR Victor Cruz has now gone 12 games without catching a touchdown pass. ..."

Scary fact? Simply stating a fact or insinuating more? See I don't understand how Eli gets a pass last season for not throwing TD passes because of a bad OLine but Cruz doesn't get a pass for not catching TDs.. And to be honest I hardly look at Cruz as a TD monger. To me he's the player that makes plays with the ball in his hands, I'm much more concerned with that.

I don't blame Eli solely for this loss at all. Although I'm generally pleased with the progress, the WHOLE team remains inconsistent. Cruz and Eli just aren't on the same page. A few of those passes were just a little too far for Cruz to reach. Donnell made some nice grabs that bailed Eli out but he also has a much wider catch radius then Cruz. Just something to think about.

  11. Profootball focus rated him as the #40 guard out of 81 last season.

Versatile vet can play any position on the line. Stole this from an article from nov. 2013. " Of the 83 career starts in his nine-year career, hes made 28 at right guard, 21 at left tackle, 21 at right tackle, 10 at left guard and three at center"

  12. I didn't think Gaskins or Cox deserved a roster spot. I'm fine with Jennings, Williams, Hillis but I wouldn't mind looking at other teams cuts to upgrade Hillis or for a 4th back. Mikel LeShoure and Daniel Thomas names stood out on the cut list.

  13. The thing is how many LBs have been drafted in the last say 10-15 years in the top 5? I can think of maybe 3 off the top. Now how many from a small school who don't face elite competition? I can't think of any. I honestly think Mack will not be drafted in the top 5. 7-10 is where I think he'll go. OTs, DEs, and QBs hold a lot of value. Then the playmakers like WR and CB. Mack's my favorite prospect this year but with the three tackles, Watkins, Clowney, and at least 1 QB that's the top 6 picks to me. If I was Reese tho I'd move up if he got to 8.
