  1. They have one of the best Power Play units that I have seen. It is scary when Gionta,Elias, and Gomez are on the ice with a man advantage. It is almost like they know what one another are going to do before they do it, it is crazy they are very scary to watch.
  2. I was at the game tonight, they looked real crisp. Henrik made some huge saves, Shanny is amazing and it was nice to see them break the trap and put people infront of marty. Just one of many elts keep in going wensday against the preds
  3. He is the best of all the Molina brothers, or will be when it is all said and done; but the Mets did what they needed to do so congrats on that.
  4. The bad news for the Rangers coming into tonight's game against New Jersey at Madison Square Garden is that the Blueshirts have dropped three in a row. The good news is that it isn't for a lack of offense. In fact, the Rangers are displaying exactly the kind of offensive prowess they lacked at points during last season. For starters, the Rangers boast the NHL's goals co-leader in Brendan Shanahan, the league's points co-leader and assists in captain Jaromir Jagr. Both players are off to strong starts that far exceed what they have achieved this early in recent seasons. Through five games, Shanahan has six goals. That's twice what he had through his first five games last year, when he went on to a 40-goal season with Detroit, and two more than Jagr had at this point, when he went on to set the Rangers record of 54 goals in one season. Jagr, meanwhile, has 10 points in five games -- four more points than he had at this juncture last season, when he went on to shatter Jean Ratelle's 34-year-old single-season points mark. As a team, the Rangers have 21 goals in five games -- an average of one goal per game more than they had a year ago at this time. The Blueshirts rank third in the NHL and are one of only four teams averaging four or more goals per game. It's not just Jagr and Shanahan providing the scoring. Michael Nylander is off to a fantastic start with nine points, giving the Rangers three of the league's top five point-scorers. Newcomers Adam Hall and Matt Cullen are also big factors of offense, with two goals apiece. So, scoring goals is definitely not a problem, and were it not for some recent defensive troubles, the Rangers would likely be one of the most feared teams in the league now. Still looking for the defensive rhythm they enjoyed last season, the Blueshirts have yielded 23 goals in their first five games, which is nine more than they allowed through the first five of 2005-06. If that tide can be turned, the Rangers have more than enough firepower to carry them to even greater heights than last year. One factor that should bolster the defense tonight is the return of Darius Kasparaitis to the lineup. Last season, Kasparaitis played a key role in the Rangers' success. His hard-hitting style will be a welcome addition against a team known for sending slick, speedy forwards into the slot. The Rangers have added incentive to clamp down defensively against tonight's opponent. Last April, the Devils swept the Blueshirts out of the playoffs, with the first-round series ending on the same ice where the rivalry resumes tonight. Just as many members of that Rangers playoff squad are back in blue this season, the vast majority of the New Jersey roster from last spring is also intact. Traditionally, the Devils have based their game on outstanding team defense and goaltending from Martin Brodeur. This season, however, New Jersey has shown a bit offensive flair, putting up four goals against the defending Stanley Cup champion Hurricanes on opening night in Raleigh, N.C., and six in their home opener against Toronto, which the Devils won in an overtime shootout. New Jersey's offensive nucleus includes team scoring leader Brian Gionta, who has four tallies in four games, as well as Zach Parise (3 goals) and Scott Gomez (6 assists). Also in the lineup tonight will be Patrik Elias, the winger who single-handedly sank the Rangers' playoff hopes last April. In that four-game series, Elias had five goals and six assists. In Game 1 in New Jersey, he scored a whopping six points. Several other familiar veteran Devils forwards, including Jamie Langenbrunner, John Madden, Sergei Brylin, and Jay Pandolfo, are no strangers to this cross-river rivalry. Added to the mix this season is 2004 first-round draft pick Travis Zajac, who made the Devils roster as a rookie. On defense, the Devils return Brian Rafalski, Colin White and Paul Martin and Brad Lukowich, who joined the team late in the 2005-06 season and appeared in all four playoff games against the Rangers. Blueshirts goalie Henrik Lundqvist is expected back in the net tonight, following a start by Kevin Weekes in Buffalo on Saturday. Although Lundqvist struggled in the playoff series against the Devils due to a problem with migraine headaches, he went 2-0-1 against them in the regular season and allowed only two goals in his two victories at The Garden, where his save percentage was an eye-popping .953. If Lundqvist displays the Garden magic he showed the Devils in the 2005-06 regular season, look for the pressure to come off the Rangers defense as the spotlight returns to an offense capable of manufacturing goals early and often. STANDINGS: Devils - 6 points, 1st place, Atlantic Division Division. Rangers - 4 points, 2nd place (tied), Atlantic Division. Jagr re-aggravated his shoulder injury just 53 seconds into the game, and although the Rangers took an early lead on a goal by Jed Ortmeyer, they gave up two goals in each of the next two periods -- ending their playoff run. Elias scored twice for New Jersey, which also got goals from Scott Gomez and Brian Gionta.
  5. At one point I felt that in order to get into Yankee stadium people should be required to take a test, to see how much they knew about the Yankees and the sport; but then I realized that if this was true I am sure Georgie boy would not be able to afford the team that he puts on the field every year.
  6. My favorite story of a Yankee fan came when I was a game when they played the mets back two years ago, I was sitting behind the plate in the mezz, and the guy behind me who knew nothing about baseball was sitting with a friend who knew even less about baseball and the Yankees. When they struck a conversation with each other about Alex Rodriguez and Derek Jeter when the guy who was trying to impress his friend with all his baseball knowledge said that he felt that Alex Rodriguez should be playing shortstop. His justifaction for this was because Alex has a stronger arm than Jeter (while this is true you need a better arm to play 3rd)he went on to add that Jeter was overrated and said that he has done very little for the Yankees in the regular season and did not understand why he was considered an elite player.I mean you are talking about the man who has won 4 world series championships for your team and the first player to be named Captain since Thurman Munson(which was very hard for George to do because of how much he loved Thurman). I can't stand it I just go to Yankee games and keep my mouth shut and listen to everyone around me. My new favorite thing is when people boo arod when he gets up but if he hits a home run they want a curtain call. Pick one you like him or not BOO him or Cheer him. I hate this
  7. I don't know that much about him considering that I just started to range out of the hockey section, but I can tell you that out of all my favorite teams(Giants,Yankees,Rangers, and Knicks) the Yankees and Rangers have the worst fans. Most Yankee fans are probably starting to jump back on the bandwagon considering what happened to the mets, but I am sure at the first sign of the mets winning they will jump on.
  8. Yeah not looking too good, we came out strong but than started to play stupid. Men where being caught out of position. Hopefully it will be different come monday against the devs
  9. How quick we change, the game is not over. If anyone's offense can do it in the NL it is the Mets unless their bats decide to become dormant like my Yankees
  10. You can get it on the radio through the internet if you like
  11. 3-2 This is fucking ridiculous Weekes is in net
  12. 2-1, They look really really good.....sloppy goal
  13. Don't forget the Yankee Captain Thurman Munson
  14. I personally have always been a fan of Mota but after what Spezio did I am sure if you should trust him either.
  15. he had 35 hr and shhhhhh don't tell anyone but he led the team in RBI's
  16. Rangers eye a big conference test in Buffalo When the Rangers take the ice in Buffalo at 7 p.m. tonight, their opponents will look a lot like the Sabres of the 1970s -- both literally and figuratively. The literal part involves the Buffalo uniforms. This season, Buffalo has redesigned its uniforms while shifting its colors back to the blue and gold that the team wore from 1970 to 1996. Tonight, however, the Sabres will take it one step further -- wearing the actual 1970s-era uniforms as part of a Retro-Night promotion at HSBC Arena. It's the first of 15 Retro Nights the Sabres have planned this season, and the Rangers have the honor of being the first opponent. The figurative part involves Buffalo's style of play. Back in the 1970s, the Sabres were a high-flying, high-scoring team with exceptional depth at forward and an outstanding goaltending tandem. That would be a good description for today's Sabres as well. Buffalo, off to a 4-0 start with three shootout wins in the young 2006-07 season, is loaded with speedy forwards built to thrive in the new-era NHL. They also have two excellent, interchangeable goaltenders in Ryan Miller and Martin Biron. On a night when the Sabres plan to go retro and turn back the clock by decades, the Rangers would do well to turn it back by just a few games. After two disappointing losses at Madison Square Garden, the Blueshirts are determined to recapture the rhythm that marked their first two wins over Washington and Philadelphia. Beating Buffalo, ranked by many preseason experts as the Eastern Conference's top team, would be a major lift heading into two more games at The Garden. Victory won't come easily, however. Although the Sabres are young and have almost no household names on their roster, they do have an enormously talented lineup that went all the way to Game 7 of last season's conference finals before losing to the eventual Stanley Cup champion Hurricanes. Leading the way on offense for the Sabres are forwards Daniel Briere, Chris Drury, Maxim Afinogenov, Jochen Hecht, Ales Kotalik, and Thomas Vanek. Second-year player Jason Pominville is also off to a fast start with two goals in his first four games. The Sabres' defense is equally capable, led by 38-year-old Teppo Numminen, who is by far the oldest player on the team. Like the Rangers, Buffalo returns a vast majority of players from last season, including goalie Miller, who challenged Henrik Lundqvist as the top rookie netminder for much of the year. Miller had three starts against the Rangers last season, allowing only six goals and picking up a pair of wins. Miller has started three of Buffalo's first three games this season, including Friday night's shootout win in Detroit, and he has stopped 96 of 103 shots. Biron started his team's third game at Ottawa and came away with 34 saves in a 4-3 victory. Last season, the Blueshirts and Rangers played a tight, four-game series that featured two overtime shootouts. The Sabres outscored the Rangers in those games by a slim 11-10 margin, and Jaromir Jagr led all scorers with six points. Perhaps the most entertaining game of the four 2005-06 meetings was the last one on March 27 at Madison Square Garden. In that game, the Rangers scored twice in the third period to overcome a 4-2 deficit en route to a 5-4 shootout win. This season's series between the teams should be even more wide-open, as both clubs appear to have made big strides offensively. The Rangers, in particular, have shown even greater ease at putting the puck in the net. With 16 goals in their first four games, this Rangers team has scored more times at this early stage of the season than any team since the 1993-94 Stanley Cup champions. Half of the Rangers' 16 goals have been scored by players who weren't on the roster last season. Brendan Shanahan, Adam Hall and Matt Cullen have already become major players in the Rangers offense and are three reasons the Sabres can expect to see a very different look -- particularly on the power-play -- than what they saw from the Rangers last year. It all adds up to what should be a very entertaining hockey game in Buffalo – a chance for two of the East's top teams to send a message to the rest of the conference about how they stack up against a fellow conference powerhouse. STANDINGS: Sabres - 8 points, 1st place, Northeast Division. Rangers - 4 points, 1st place (tied), Atlantic Division. TEAM LEADERS: Sabres - Drury, 3 goals and 5 points; Hecht and Briere, 3 assists each; Jiri Novotny, 8 PIM. Rangers – Shanahan, 4 goals; Jagr, 6 assists and 9 points; Jagr, 8 PIM. 2005-06 SEASON SERIES: 2-2. LAST MEETING: March 27; Rangers 5-4 (SO). At New York. The Rangers came back from a 4-2 deficit by scoring twice in the third period. Jaromir Jagr notched the game-tying goal at 10:16, tying Adam Graves' former team record of 52 goals in one season. The Rangers scored the shootout's lone goal for a 5-4 win. ROAD/HOME RECORDS: Sabres -- 1-0 at home; Rangers -- 1-0 on the road.
