  1. I really dont think it's worth going defense now, though...if your the Giants, I think you have to take DeAngelo Williams or one of the WRs.

Jimmy Williams, Daniel Bullocks, DeAngelo Williams, and Winston Justice I would hope come before those WR's, but who knows. Williams and Justice fell because of character issues, and that usually doesn't bode well with the Giants, but we'll see.

  2. With 7 picks to go, there's a fair amount of talent still on the board...

    Antonio Cromartie

    Manny Lawson

    Winston Justice

    DeAngelo Williams

    Santonio Holmes

    Nick Mangold

    Jonathon Joseph

    Jimmy Williams

Hopefully, one of the first 4 will still be there when we pick.

  3. I would not like to see Philly trade up to get Bunkley. They would have an absolutely sick front 4.

Buffalo though, what were they thinking? If they really wanted Whitner, couldn't they have traded down for him?

Interesting though, Winston Justice and Jimmy Williams, both players with character concerns, we haven't heard much of yet.

  4. Most of us know and have heard this is a deep draft class for LB's, and even with the signing of Arrington and Short, I would have to believe that the Giants are going to take at least 1 linebacker at some point today or tommorrow.

Has anyone seen Brian Iwuh(LB, Colorado) play? He's definitily on the smalish side for a LB(and probably knowing the Giants, too small for their standards as well), but the guy hits like a ton of bricks, he would bring a lot of speed to the position, and could be a demon on special teams.

  5. If it is the 18th pick and Justice is around we got to trade up for him no way would he make it past the Bucs at 23

then again there isnt really a chance of this happining so i dont know why i am typing

This is from an article I posted yesterday...

NFL Draft: Prospect and Player News

"Earlier last month we spoke about an insecure attitude by Winston Justice which was being labeled as a "humble personality". We have learned that has changed.

Several franchises were completely turned off by what they called "complete immaturity" on behalf of Justice. Source have labeled him as a "blamer" who does not take personal responsibility. Factor in off-the-field issues which includes an arrest for solicitation and at least two teams in the middle of round one have said they will not select Justice even if he is available."

  6. That trade sucks. Besides, we need Eric Winston more than a 4th and 6th rounder. How exactly is Accorsi planning on drafting SANTANA Moss?

I'm not so high on Eric Winston...I saw a bunch of Miami games last year, and maybe he's not 100% from his knee injury, but I don't see him being an upgrade over Luke Petitgout.

The only way I'd like to see us draft an OT is if Winston Justice somehow falls to #25, or if Darren Colledge or Jon Scott is available in the second round, though those scenario's aren't looking too likely.

NFL Draft: Prospect and Player News

    By: TFY Draft Preview

    Date: Apr 28, 2006

Less than 24 hours before the Houston Texans are officially called to the clock and there is plenty of breaking news. Much of it surrounds the medical status from many of the top prospects as well as players who've been dropping down boards after poor interviews.

It's no secret outside linebacker Ernie Sims of Florida State had concussion issues in the past. Scout.com recently learned Sims actually suffered six concussions in his playing career, one knocking him unconscious. While Sims seems like a rising prospect, in actuality, he could drop quite a bit on draft day due to medical concerns.

After a brilliant start to his senior campaign, Jason Allen suffered a major hip injury last October and despite solid workouts in recent weeks several teams are concerned. Two teams that scout.com talked to this week said they took Allen off of their draft board because of long-term concerns of the injured hip. The thinking is the hip injury suffered last October could be a generative condition. Other franchises are not as concerned and will consider selecting Allen during the first 45-selections.

Antonio Cromartie missed the entire 2005 season due to a knee injury and surprised some when he declared for the draft. Luckily for Cromartie the surgically repaired knee is not an issue as he's been passing team physicals throughout the league.

Offensive tackle Marcus McNeill has been diagnosed with Stenosis which is defined as the narrowing of the spine. While he can play with the condition, teams are concerned with the long-term effects and many have dismissed the notion of taking him in the first round. Two interesting points must be brought out. McNeill was unable to practice this season and for the most part put on the pads once a week on Saturday. His older brother, DeMarco McNeill was at one time a highly rated defensive tackle entering the 2004 draft but was red-flagged and went undrafted with a degenerative knee condition.

While he suffered a major knee injury during the 2004 season, Eric Winston hasn't had any problems passing team physicals. Still, teams feel he was not fully healthy last year at Miami, which resulted in disappointing play. Most teams feel Winston still needs time before breaking into a starting line-up.

Charlie Whitehurst had shoulder surgery late in 2005 but has looked good in private workouts for teams and hasn't had any problems passing physicals.

California tackle Ryan O'Callahan has been red-flagged by several teams after two shoulder surgeries and back problems. Sources have told us certain franchises will not consider using a first day pick on O'Callahan due to the injury history.

While some have Notre Dame tight end Anthony Fasano rising up draft boards his combine medical grade tells a different story altogether. Due to a back injury Fasano was given a grade of 1 (one) by doctors who examined him at the combine, the lowest number possible. He is now considered undraftable by many teams.

A second tier running back, Ryan Gilbert told people he was rehabbing his surgically repaired knee the past three months but sources say the big interior ball handler has actually done nothing at all. As a result Gilbert, previously looked upon as late round consideration, is barely roster fodder.

Two prospects are falling down draft boards after poor interviews, with some teams removing their names from consideration altogether.

Earlier last month we spoke about an insecure attitude by Winston Justice which was being labeled as a "humble personality". We have learned that has changed.

Several franchises were completely turned off by what they called "complete immaturity" on behalf of Justice. Source have labeled him as a "blamer" who does not take personal responsibility. Factor in off-the-field issues which includes an arrest for solicitation and at least two teams in the middle of round one have said they will not select Justice even if he is available.

Another dropping due to poor one-on-one interviews is defensive back Jimmy Williams. At one time considered a top ten choice, Williams has not come off well and source have told us he has asserted no desire to move back to free safety and will only play cornerback.

Character concerns has reared its' ugly head and red-flagged several other defensive players.

Considered first round material coming into the season, a number of teams have tabbed Alan Zemaitis as a character concern citing a bad attitude. While opinions on Zemaitis are split, some teams will not consider using a pick on his services until the third round begins.

Texas defensive lineman Rodrique Wright has also been dropping down draft boards with character concerns. Part of Wright's problem is the fact he's just not liked by a lot of people.

  8. Earlier in this thread, you criticized Jacobs and Ward for their lack of "NFL success," yet you are suggesting that bringing in first day RB will consitute adequate "preparation" for Tiki getting injured.

As far I'm concerned, the Giants are as prepared for Tiki getting hurt in 2006 (not 2006 and beyond) as they possibly can be, short of bringing in a successful pro RB in his prime....

It never hurts to be deep at running back, and adding another running back as insurance for Tiki Barber isn't the worst idea in the world. If Barber happens to get injured this year, I don't think anyone is suggesting that a rookie is going to come in and take over the reigns, but more of a running back by committee.

  9. Just my .02 but having seen a bunch of NC State games live I can tell you that McCargo did very little to stand out when I saw him. Having Lawson and Williams on either side gave him much more opprotunity to shine than the other way around. I'm not high on the guy.

Hey Hound, any opinions on ILB Oliver Hoyte from NC State. I know he didn't have a great combine, and he was able to play in back of that great D-line, but you can't teach a guy to hit like that.

  10. Usually I simply put the TV on mute when Sean Salsbury is about to offer his "expert advice"...but during todays mock draft on ESPN, Sean choose Bobby Carpenter for the Giants at 25...and if got me thinking, why not?

Bobby Carpenter is a big, athletic, nasty linebacker. He plays with tons of energy and passion and could really add something to the defense. Not to mention that the departure of Greisen leaves a big hole that needs filling....the token white guy on defense....

Now, while I am still a strong supporter of Reggie Torbor to be the heir apparant to Emmons on the strong side, a talent like Carpenter's may be too good to pass up at that point of the draft. He seems to have the ability and instincts to come in and contribute on this defense from day one as a situational pass rusher from the linebacker position and would eventually take over Emmons SAM spot. If the Giants happened to select Bobby at 25, I would be very pleased with the pick and would be REAL comfortable with our backers heading into next season.

    Thoughts? :afro:

At this point, I don't see that happening. After Arrington signing, I have believe to believe that the Giants have someone else in mind, and are more than happy to find some LB depth later in the draft.

  11. Really? I think the only pick I included that has less than a 50-50 chance of being available is Colledge. Drew is all over the place. Some mocks have him going 4th round others I've seen him selected in the second. I think he's still there when we pick at 3.

I think Gaither, Jennings and Williams are all available when we pick.

I'm not saying it's not possible, their all good prospects, I just think it would take a bit of luck to land Colledge, Drew, Jennings and Hudson in those respective rounds. Jennings, despite the height, is an underrated prospect, and I think he could easily go in the 3rd or 4th round.

Like I said though, I really like your draft, and although I'm not sold on Watson, I hope the rest goes as you planned.
