  1. I heard that they are taking out Eli, and Brett Favre is gonna play has a Packer it being his final game probably, probably not, probably oh he is also going to play has a Jet against himself and probably some reciever and DB,LB, and DT,DE cause fuck nobody usually goes to this meaningless freaking game who cares? good for Eli but im sure Eli really doesn't care. The two players last year who rocked the league (for 18 weeks) Brady and Moss didn't even show to this thing last year most players don't or really care

Is there a translator in the house?

  2. Not necessarily. Minnesota would still need to beat Atlanta next week for that to even be a possible scenario. Atlanta is no push over team and is the kind of team I think Tarvaris Jackson, if he is starting next week, will have trouble with. That said, I sure as hell don't want to limp into the playoffs. That first round bye is way more important than home field advantage, though.

Gotcha....and agreed about Atlanta. But if Atlanta wins that game in Minny, THEY are a threat...figure they win Week 17 against the Rams, in Atlanta, they are 11-5. Same thing if Tampa Bay wins out (SD & Oak, in Tampa). If we lose out (perish the thought!) and Atl & TB win out, we all finish 11-5. What then?

All this means donkey dick if we win at home next Sunday night against Carolina. And I fully believe we will.

  3. Agreed on the bye being the most important thing. Are you sure about the Giants having the tiebreaker over Tampa if we lose to Dallas & Minny but beat Carolina, and all three teams finish at 12-4? Obviously, we have it over Carolina off head to head but how do we have it over Tampa? If they win out, both the Giants & Tampa would have 3 divisional losses. What's the next tie breaker?

  4. One thing though - the 1st seed, while potentially home for two games, might get the tougher match up in Week 2. Assume for the moment Dallas is the 6 seed. They go to Arizona Week 1 and Tampa, the #5 seed, goes to Minny(or whoever comes out of that cauldron of mediocrity). I see both visitors wining there. That sets up a 3rd Tampa/Carolina game and Dallas comes calling on us. Personally, I'd rather be hosting Tampa that week.....but not more than I'd rather get Carolina here the following week.

  5. I found that the other day, and have been playing with it since. The thing that pisses me off is that there is actually a lot of scenarios that will put Dallas in the playoffs. On the other hand, it looks very good that we'll have the 1st seed.

The way Carolina looked last night and given our schedule, I wouldn't take 1st seed to the bank quite yet. I've been saying for weeks - we'll have to beat Carolina in week 16 to get 1st seed. And unless Tampa losses in Atlanta Sunday, which is possible, we'll also have to win either the Dallas or Minnesota game, if we want 1st seed. If Tampa losses, then winning only the Carolina game will do it. Any way you slice it, the Carolina game will decide if all roads go through East Rutherford in January.

  6. I've said before in one of these carry over threads that I am probably being too picky on a really good team, but I keep seeing the same thing every week, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't, that doesn't mean it doesn't exist. Again, it's being picky, but it's just my belief.

My beef with Gillbride is his penchant for giving up on a working running game to force the passing game in the name of balance when it's not needed. It's not about "running a little more" it's almost completely abandoning the running game WHEN THE OTHER TEAM HAS SHOWN THEY CAN'T STOP IT that gets under my skin. Against the Skins in the rain, less than ideal conditions but they shut down the run so we had to pass, no issues there. Against the Eagles in a hurricane with tyhe running game going well we keep forcing the pass, how many of Eli's passes did we see sailing? Top that off with receivers dropping balls and the fact the game was never a blowout, we didn't need to pass the ball more than 15-20 times tops, we could have controlled the T.O.P (which we did in the first half i believe, or at least the first quarter) and kept the game where we wanted it.

But we only ran 51 plays - 24 runs, 27 passes. Problem was, we had a 3.7 rushing average and too many runs were for little gain, forcing us into tough 3rd downs (I think Jacobs had a 20 yarder and Ward an 11. Outside of those two runs, we had 22 rushes for 57 yards) ...and we were terrible on 3rd down - 3 for 11. I can remember only a few 5 yard plus runs on first down. 2nd & 8 puts you in a tough spot and 3rd and anything was deadly yesterday. Hard to get a running game going under those circumstances.

  7. I was arguing that you implied I have been on the Gillbride bus all year and after one poor game jumped off, thats not true. I accept the fact we have a potent offense, and he gets credit for that, but I am not alone in the thought that he likes to force the passing game in less than ideal situations when the running game is very effective.

OK, let me ask you this: will there ever be an OC that you, me and everyone else agrees with everything he does? I hear you on forcing the pass upon occasion...but it's hard to argue with the results. I'm just saying that the OC does a ton more than call plays - play design, personnel packages, etc - and if the worst you can say about the guy is, "I'd like him to run it a little more", I wonder how many other OCs would draw less criticism?

  8. See, thats a lack of paying attention, there has been a few of us the whole season saying Gillbride might not be as good as advertised. It's not just this one game, I know i started a thread after the Cincy game, and have made comments throughout the season. I'm not necessarily saying he should be fired, but I am pointing out his obvious flaws.

As far as some on this Board are concerned, not being perfect is a "flaw"!

  9. Top 6 offense in yards per game and number one in rushing per game.

Has a bad day and all of a sudden we should let him go.

Exactly. I'd also remind you that Jimmy Johnson draws a paycheck, too and is pretty good at what he does....and on this day, he was a step ahead of Gilbride and Eli at every turn. Did you see them flipping through the pre-snap and post-snap pictures on the sidelines, with a "what the fuck?" look on their faces? Some days, especially against a good, desperate opponent, just go that way. Last time, in Philly, it went the other way. That's life in the NFL.

Given the body of work, which includes last year's playoff run, a Super Bowl Championship, then boasting one of the top scoring teams in the NFL, in route to a 10-1 record, which included 6 straight wins against teams with winning records, you can't over-react to one bad day!

  10. 'Zackly :TU:. Plax isn't a bad person. He strikes as someone who needs help more than anything. I'm rooting for him.. and this case may very well go to the Superme Court. NYC's gun laws are ridiculous and unconstitutional.

Wait a minute. You think it should be legal for anyone to carry a concealed loaded gun into a nightclub while you and everyone around you is drinking? And not even in a holster, but tucked into the waistband of sweatpants? Really?

  11. Maybe it's the ghosts of the past triggering reflexive thinking but I still worry about the Cowboys more than anyone else. Poorly coached as they are and operating in circus-like conditions has slowed the jelling process but there's so much talent there, they can't help but come around eventually......and it's looking to me like "eventually" has arrived. Not saying we can't beat them, especially in our place in January, but they clearly have the most upside of any potential opponent in the NFC

  12. But at this point, I'm greedy - anything less than #1 seed is unacceptable. Though not a mathematical certainty, in all probability, just winning the Carolina game, even if we lost the other three, would do that (Carolina, Tampa & Atlanta all play each other and none of them will run the table). Go 2-2, including a win over Carolina and we'll have the week off and all roads to the Super Bowl run though Giant Stadium.

  13. I heard Carl Banks on FAN and he offered a much wiser option: hire a body guard for the night! He said off duty cops are always looking to make a few bucks and it doesn't even cost that much. Also, he said there is complete confidentiality and players do not have to worry about "big brother" watching. He said he got to know a few guys he felt comfortable with and one of them was always available when he wanted to go out on the town. Probably cost him $300-$400 bucks per night - tip money for these guys. I think that's the way I'd go.

  14. 4th rounder? At this point, the best you can hope for is to not take TOO big a cap hit when you release him. What team would take Plax and that contract right now? Another possibility is that Plax violated terms of contract and the Giants might be able to get out from under that way. But get out they must.

This pains me to say, because I've been a huge Plax fan and I hope to hell that he realizes there's something bigger than football at stake here. He really is at a crossroads and I'm rooting for him. But the Giants have to protect their interests, too.

When he's mentally and physically right, he's damn near unstoppable. Unfortunately, those instances have been far too infrequent. Now he threatens to be a distraction.

While his teammates are fond of him, they have also made clear that he is not above the team and the daily drama is unappreciated. However, he appears unreachable. For the sake of Team and getting out of a cap disaster when we have a chance, the Giants should cut ties now.

  15. Let me 1st start off by saying how much I love Jacobs. I think he instills fear in the opposing team and is a very intense runner. But, I think the Giants should let him go if he starts asking for big money. A couple of reasons why: 1) Let's face it...Bradshaw might be the best RB prospect the Giants have ever had. The guy can flat out run. He makes cuts like Barry Sanders. The kid is going to be an all-pro....mark my words. 2) The big bruising backs like Jacobs have notoriously short careers. Injuries will start to mount and your left with a second string RB and (bradshaw if they have to let him go because of a large Jacobs contract) will be among the league leaders in carries and rushing yards for another team. 3) Let's face it #2...this offensive line is the best in the league. Keep them intact and you could have Pee Wee Herman at RB.

Like I said, If Jacobs wants big time money, it may be time to say goodbye. You can only pay so many players. At some point you have to say sayonara to a great player. I say spend the money in more important areas like 1) keeping the O-Line intact (Diehl will want left tackle money at some point) 2) Re-sign Pierce and any other important Defensive player at all costs. There are certain areas you address and certain areas you don't. With an O-Line like our, it would be foolish to reach and give Jacobs big money when you have Ward and Bradshaw. Depth is a beautiful thing and when you have it...you have to use it to your advantage.

Agreed. I would add to that list that Jacobs will never be a 20+ carry per game guy with the Giants....and he'd be an even greater injury risk if they tried to make him that. I don't want to pay $8M per year for 12-15 carries per game, considering the other options we have (and don't forget Ware, who is on the practice squad - he could fill the 3rd back role).

If it's a matter of priorities, we have to sign Webster first. For us anyway, RB is a hell of a lot easier to fill than CB.

  16. Baltimore is very similar to Pittsburgh and their offense might be playing a little better right now. Did you see the game between those two teams? A savage war, won by Pittsburgh late. Except for the result - and either team could have won - it looked a lot like our game in Pittsburgh. The Giants better buckle up the chin straps and be ready for another pier 6 brawl. Looks like a 20-16 type game to me.

  17. It doesn't really matter - it's all about how WE do in the divisional games. If we beat Philly at home, win in Washington & Dallas and we wouldn't have to win any other games to clinch NFC East. Matter of fact, winning two out of those three, plus one out of division game probably does it.

That would get us #2 seed, at worst. Find a way to 12-4 including winning two out of those three divisional games AND beat Carolina at home in Week 16 and we'll have two home games on the way to the Super Bowl.

All that said, root for dallas to give Washington their 4th loss...then we'll give them both their 5th!

  18. Trade deadline has passed and his contract is up at the end of the season, so he cannot be traded. However, if your next dream is he asked for 5 years/$25+M and the Giants, figuring Ward & Bradshaw could get the job done at a fraction of the cap space, elected not to meet his price, then your dream might be getting all too realistic!
