Smith is Toomer's replacement and Hixon slides into Smith's 3rd receiver role.....with Manningham competing for time, as well. Burris' replacement has yet to be determined....but Housh doesn't fit that mold. Pass.

Bogus rumor or not, I read elsewhere that Ward was looking in the $3M per year neighborhood and if that;s true, he'd be a STEAL!!! Giants would be fools not to resign him for say, 4 years, $12M. I'd do it in a heartbeat.....and certainly I'd do it before signing Jacobs to 7 years, $45M.

I have the same question as boohyah - where did you hear this? Last I heard, Mitchell had a great year in Buffalo and they thought they got a steal. I'd snap him up in a second if they cut him loose....but why the hell would they?

Chad has more gas left in the tank than TO. TO is finding it harder and harder to get off the line when jammed and no longer has the explosive speed to burn a defender if he does beat the jam. And you KNOW he'll be the last to see his own decline and will be a major PIA when he's no longer the focal point.

Chad is worth a gamble. TO is not.

Long term deals make things easier on the cap. We have plenty of room.

Excellent move. This gives them until July 31 to work out a long term deal. Otherwise, we get him for this year at $6.6M.....or the Giants would have the right to match any other offer he gets....and if they don't and he leaves, they get TWO first rounders.

He wants a Marion Barber contract - 6 years, $45M. As I said on another thread, I don't mind the $6.5M per year but no way I'd do 7 years. Apparently Reese agrees, because according to one report I read today, the Giants initial offer was for much less guaranteed and heavy on incentives.

Agreed. Remember too, he's been in one of the circus franchises of the NFL, so no wonder he's played the clown. Get him into our locker room, with a chance to start over with a clean slate and he just might flourish - and don't forget that he was one of the top receivers in the game not long ago.....and he made Hous successful, btw.

And Boldin came back only weeks after his face was broken in multiple places. This guy is a gamer. Price might be too high but please don't confuse him with TO.

Kiwi is a good, solid player who will only get better. He needs to develop another pass rushing move or two, other than the outside speed rush. I got tired of watching the OT easily push him past the QB. But between the position changes - and corresponding weight adjustments - he's seen a lot in a few short years. The Giants will reap the benefits of his development over the next few years.

Well, Gman, I like the way you think, but I think Ward is going to want big bucks, too, and we can easily draft a replacement for him. I think it's time we gave Bradshaw a bigger role in the offense. I think we also need to be very careful about letting Jacobs walk, because he is so critical to our offense. He made the Ravens vaunted defense look silly trying to tackle him. I think he's more of a critical piece so I would be very careful about letting him get away. Obviously, if his demands are too unreasonable he may leave us with no choice... but in that case I think we need to franchise him because this team is poised for another championship run with the team they have right now.

If you believe Jacobs is the only way our offense is effective, the Franchise tag makes sense for a short term arrangement....but I'm not sure Ward isn't just as good and could be had more cheaply. Didn't say cheap, said more cheaply. Bet you could get him for 4 years/$22M...and he makes more yards on his own when blocking breaks down. Yes, Jacobs is more of a battering ram but Ward is 230+ himself - and he's got much more of a wiggle and ability to make people miss.

There's more than one way to get it done and I wouldn't mind a Ward/Bradshaw tandem, if Jacobs wants to break the bank.

Yeah, I think the only way we draft Moreno is if we let Jacobs and Ward both leave. I can't see that happening. They must come to a deal with Jacobs. If they don't, and I know the Giants don't do this as a rule, but I think they should just franchise him.

So we pay him the average of the top 5 running backs for one year. Anyone know what that number would be? I'm not crazy about the huge cap hit for the year but that's better than giving him the SEVEN years he wants - for $45M. The salary amount isn't the killer there - although it's a little high for someone who will never play 16+ games - it's way too many years. Offer the same salary over four years - $26M for four - and we have a deal. If he won't back off the years or he won't accept games played clauses, let him walk and sign Ward for much more reasonable terms. Otherwise, you're almost guaranteed a few years of dead cap money.

We are getting a ton of shit on it here because Warner is an Iowa boy......they have him going into the Hall on a first ballot and Jesus is going to come down and personally do his induction speech.

 

Makes you want to root for Pittsburgh just so you don't have to hear the "And one more thing...thank you Jesus" tripe he is going to roll out with as soon as they hand him the Lombardi Trophy.

The interest and attention last year's SB generated only comes when you have at least one of the major media markets....and last year, we had two. Not having a team from the NE corridor, Chicago or any major west coast city will limit the casual fan draw. To us, it's the Super Bowl, it's a great day and we're into it...but to bring about the super hoopla kind of electricity, you've got to bring in the masses of "holiday fans".

Steelers, 31 - 16. Big Ben finds it a little easier moving the ball against Arizona than he did against Baltimore. Warner makes some plays but has to settle for FGs in the red zone and the Pitt D either gets a TD or sets one up.

Next prediction - what's the over/under on Warner's post game God references?

...and the unsuspecting Giants fans too. We've barely seen this guy on the field all year and now he's some kind of secret weapon?

I'm thinking that Manningham and even (gasp!) Moss surprise all of us by making a few plays Sunday and throughout the playoffs. This would follow last year's pattern of heretofore little used guys emerging down the stretch.

Old man Tooms has plenty left to offer this team. While not a #1 receiver, he can still be a valuable, productive cog in the offense. He'd be a great 3rd receiver, for instance.

But we all understand this is a business. I hope he and the Giants can agree on a one year deal, with incentives. The last thing I want to see is Tooms in another uniform. He is and always will be a Giant, a great Giant.

Back to the question at hand....Cardinals....duh. They are 2-7 against winning teams (500 or better) and have been absolutely decimated in their trips east. And I don't like their chances for an all out air attack on Jan 11, in Giant Stadium.

Philly scares me for the same reason Dallas would have - familiarity. We know each other so well, all the games are going to be close and either side will have a chance to win. Yes, Philly can be wildly inconsistent but I wouldn't count on getting anything less than their best if they come in. Having to play Philly and Carolina again would be the toughest possible road.

That said, against less familiar foes - see Baltimore & Cincy this year - is where Philly seems most prone to off games. I wouldn't be stunned to see Minny beat them. I'm hoping both home underdogs win and the Cards come east.

I don't think there's any doubt we'll be on the market for a linebacker or two, including a MLB. Pierce has gotten as far as his dedicated film study and headiness can take him. Unfortunately, his preparation is much greater than his athleticism.

Good point about him potentially helping us more as a coach. I'm sure he's thinking about going that way - but not yet. He's not worth the cap space in a reduced role, so he's either our starter or he's gone. And emotional and volatile as he can be, you know parting will not be amicable.

I'm rooting Ravens but even if they don't win, I'd like to see them leave Romo pissing blood for a week.
