Waived

5:00 PM, June 21, 2010 ι By PAUL SCHWARTZ It appeared the Giants would go into training camp ready for a two-man battle for the punting job left vacated by the retirement of Jeff Feagles. Matt Dodge, a seventh-round draft pick from East Carolina, and Jy Bond, a former Australian Rules player, kicked against each other during the off-season program, OTAs and recently completed minicamp but the competition won't continue into the summer.

Bond was one of five players waived today by the Giants, moves needed for the inevitable signings of six of their seven picks in the 2010 NFL Draft.

Dodge is now the only punter on the roster, but that doesn't mean the Giants will go into training camp, starting Aug. 1 at the University at Albany, with one punter. They could add a youngster or a veteran to push Dodge.

The others waived were safety Vince Anderson, tight end Carson Butler and linebackers Lee Campbell and Micah Johnson.

Without these moves, the Giants would have had to release a player every time they signed one of their draft picks to stay at the 80-man roster limit. The only draft pick to sign thus far is Chad Jones, a safety from LSU taken in the third round.
