  1. Dude, who would that be? They were talking Wright in NY but I don't think so.

Jimmy Rollins. No way Wright wins it.

Geez, guess what happened? Giants crushed the Egirls big time.

Well I wouldn't really call that a big time crushing, but a wins a win and it made my day just that much better.

  2. Well, welcome to the club, nice first post.

There are a few rules you'll need to follow posting here.

First, you must recognize that I am, by far, the sexiest man on this message board. You'll here the name Boohyah in arguments on this subject, don't buy it though.

Second, you will likely, at some point in time, have to prove you're actually a woman, we have a bit of history here, and as a result, suspicion runs deep. Thick skin is sometimes essential here.

Above all, don't be scared, don't be run off, don't be intimidated, just remember to recognize my sexiness. And my insane comma use ability.

I like the subtlety, VG. Tread carefully.

  3. The Mets suck, and I never really liked them. The Phillies are the best team I have ever seen and will win the division.

    Go Phillies.

    Yay.

    You've finally learned...

But in all honesty, I'm pretty much still fully expecting a last week Phillies collapse - just because I've become so accustomed to it. They keep it close till the very end (usually just the WC though) then in the last 5 or so games they just fold under the pressure. BUT, with the way the two teams are playing, I wouldn't be entirely shocked if the Phils slipped in. I'd love to see it, but I can't say I'm counting on it.

  4. Weren't they (Aikman and that other guy) saying that a Senior official told them that it was ruled as if the play was over? I could be wrong, but I swear that's what I heard. Also if I'm correct, then why don't senior officials know the rules?

That's what Aikman was saying at first...something along the lines of "I was lead to believe..." But then a little later he said that the call on the field was in line with the rule. They must have checked it out in the meantime.

  5. congrats on the division. You guys really played your asses off and deserve it. We have shown no heart this year and you guys have stayed in there. You guys have more heart than we do and good luck the rest of the way. At least we can both agree is go Giants!!

Don't be so quick to give up...if history is any indicator, the Phils will blow it. They do this every year, get close to the playoffs (though always the WC), then go on a skid and miss out by a game or two. I'd love to see them in the playoffs, lord knows it's been long enough, but I'm not counting on it. All I've come to expect of them is to keep things interesting until football season...anything else is just gravy.

  6. Like I said, I really doubt it was intentional. It was the kids first major league start, I think the ball just got away from him with Utley, then he got shook up and nervous and it happened again with Howard.

But that doesn't mean that the next Nationals batter shouldn't get a fastball high and tight.

  7. Having an MVP caliber season (after signing a 7 year contract mind you) and this shit happens to him. That's the Phils for you.

And what the fuck has happened to baseball? This guys hits the Phillies two star players (he also hit Howard in the very next at bat) and there's no retaliation? Considering the pitcher, I doubt it was on purpose, but a message should have been sent.

  8. Poz is nothing, and will turn out that way. Trus'

Poz is a beast, he's gonna anchor whatever defense he's on. He may not be flashy, but he gets the job done. He just needs to get a little beefier and work on his pass coverage.

I think the knee injury he suffered (as per ESPN) made him a bit of a gamble.

His knee injury was two years ago and he proved last year that he made a full recovery. The partially torn ligaments were able to heal on their own and didn't require surgery, which is a big plus. He had an outstanding year even after switching to a new position last season.

When Jack Ham names you the best linebacker to ever play at Penn State, that's saying something. We missed out on this kid, big time.

  9. I think I would splooge in my pants if I saw Poz in Giant blue. I've been following this guy since his freshman year at Penn State, and he's just a helluva football player.

  10. I really don't understand what is so good about the Phillies' rotation. Besides Myers and Hamels being young players with a lot of upside, there is Freddy Garcia who is usually consistant which leaves you with two open spots.

I don't know much about Eaton, but from what I know about him, if he's healthy he's gonna be a decent back end starter, nothing more. But then you don't need your 4th or 5th starter to be an ace. As for Moyer, he's sure not gonna overpower hitters or knock your socks off with anything fancy, but he gets guys out and he wins ballgames. It's not always pretty, but he gets the job done. I don't know that I would call the back end of the rotation "open slots" though. It's not like these guys belong in AAA ball or anything. They're capable pitchers, and with the Phillies offensive ability, none of these guys are really gonna be needing to 6 or 7 shutout innings every night.

  11. On general principle, I disagree with Jimmy. Until you beat the team that won the division last year, you're not the team to beat. I don't care how great you look on paper. But, I do like the confidence. It's refreshing not to see Phillies players getting interviewed before the season and basically saying "Uh, we'll see how things go." What they've needed is a big swift kick in the ass, and now they've got the players to do it. They've got most of the pieces in place (I really think you guys are ridiculously downplaying the strength of the starting rotation), now they need bullpen help, which they'll get before the season starts.

But for fucks sake, everyone relax. Take a deep breath and go rub one out or something. It's not like the guys up there saying that no one else in the division has a chance (which oddly enough, is what I've heard from most Mets fans over the past few seasons). The guy's got confidence in his teammates, so sue him.

  12. Rollins had 6 more homeruns and 2 more RBI than Reyes. Such a glaring disparity.

That's not the point. You're the one who brought up the HR and RBI stats for leadoff hitters. Personally, I'd trade all those homers in for a few more base hits and a few less strikeouts, he's got good hitters behind him to knock him in, he just needs to get on base more. I was just pointing out that it's pretty goofy to say that Rollins couldn't hold a candle to Reyes then citing those numbers when Rollins is not only close to him, but above him. Reyes is a damn good player, but shit you guys are acting like he's the greatest shortstop to ever play the game.

  13. So? Reyes was more dynamic, more clutch, more consistent then Rollins. RBIs and HRs do NOT determine the leadoff hitter's ability. You know that.

Never said they do...just showing that golfkids assertation that Rollins couldn't hold a candle to Reyes then citing Reyes' HR and RBI totals from last season is pretty silly since Rollins had him beat in both categories. And I keep hearing this "more dynamic" thing, what's that about? Serious question, what exactly is that supposed to refer to?

Last season was actually atypical for Rollins. He usually hits about 15 homers and knocks in around 60 runs, which he was about on pace to do until he went on that tear after the all star break.

except if you are a Phillies fan who are btw only 50 some loses to become the only sports team ever to have 10,000 loses.

:flex: That's what happens when you're around for 125 years. It's sad when you come to expect mediocrity and late season disappointments like I have. What a pathetic franchise...but I can't help but love em.

  14. Carlos Delgado is a bad 1Bmen and Ryan Howard makes him look like Keith Hernandez. I saw him make PLENTY of mistakes and his fielding% and error totals prove that point. 1B defense is very underrated, especially with a 2Bmen with limited range. Howards best position is DH.

A .991 FP and a dozen errors makes him horrible? Like I said, he won't be winning any gold gloves anytime soon, but he's not the bumbling stumbling retard out there you're making him out to be.

I am sorry we can disagree on Burrell, his arm is not geat, I have seen him misjudge plenty of balls over the years and IMO his best position is 1B or DH, positions he both played before becoming a pro.

Are we even talking about the same player here? Burrell has an absolute cannon for an arm. He's a solid fielder, that's about it. But he doesn't need to be great with Rowand and Victorino out there. Again, he's not the disaster you're trying to make him look like.

  15. I don`t agree with this at all, I do agree with the rest of it.

Jose Reyes is the most dynamic player in the Major Leagues today. Has the ability to hit over 20 homers and had 81 RBIs for a lead off hitter in the National

League. Jimmy Rollins couldn`t hold a candle to Jose Reyes

Rollins had more homers and more ribbies...as a leadoff hitter.

Do not forget pitching wins with a good defense behind it, the Phils with Helms and Howard at the corner are putrid, Utley is average at best. Rollins is the only decent fielder in that infield. Remember the Met teams of the late 80's early 90's? Gooden, Viola, Cone, Darling, Fernandez, Ojeda, 6 above average starters, yet the team could not win. WHy? Because the defense behind them was utter trash, the Phils defense is not good, factor in that they play in a hitters park and it even lessens their percieved starting pitching strengths.

EVer seen Burrel play LF? He makes Roger Cedeno look like Jim Edmonds.

Utley has improved dramatically in the field over the past season and a half, he's making some nice plays out there. I don't really know about Helms, but Howard really isn't all that bad. He's not gonna make too many highlite reel shows with his glove, but he doesn't make mistakes out there either. That's all you really need from your first baseman.

As for Burrell, he's a suprisingly good fielder...when he's healthy. The past two seasons he's had nagging leg and knee injuries that have slowed him down. He's not fast, but he seems to make great reads on the ball when its hit. He doesn't need to cover all that much ground anymore anyway. Rowand can cheat over to left a bit because Shane Victorino can cover a ridiculous amount of field he's so damn fast.

The Phillies defense isn't bad at all, I don't know where you're getting that from.

  16. Um, Rollins saus they are the team to beat and that they now have a good pitching staff, and Wright somehow hears nobody else has a chance? Sorry guys, but thats reaching, thats looking for a reason to get up.

Thing is, Rollins is right, the Phills have a good team, and they are gonna win the NL east.

Now VG, don't be stupid. As long as the Mets are around, no one else in the division has a snowball's chance in hell at winning it.
