  1. if the browns want to unload anderson and replace edwards, they would need 2 players in return. all denver has that they want is marshall-and apparently all denver wants is anderson. so there needs to be a 3rd team to take edwards and allow the browns to get fair value.

that's why i'm assuming the giants would be involved.

    word....wink.gif

  2. So what is your guys take on them shutting down Port St. Lucie and moving to the DR?

They have not shut down St Lucie, they withdrew a team from the Arizona fall instructional league and plan on conducting these type things in the DR at some baseball academy that by the looks of the minor league system was a work out center for potential NBAers

  3. The Wilpons have to sell this team not because they do not spend money, they have the 2nd highes payroll in the game, but because they chinse everywhere else. The bad luck in terms of injuries to key players is unprecedented and you cannot blame them, but the masking of "we have the 2nd highest payroll" but in turn spending like a small market club on scouting and draft picks is comical. Its almost like we never knew this as the high payroll teams of 2005 to 2008 masked this fact. Its a joke IMO and the Wilpons OF ALL PEOPLE should harken back to the 80's when they were half owners with Doubleday and along with GM Frank Cashen put an emphasis on scouting and development and had such home grown players as Gooden, Strawberry, Dykstra, Backman and made trades for young talent they scouted out in Hojo, Darling, Fernandez, etc.

Its a joke, again I told anyone that would listen that the collapse of 2007 would resonate for a long time, my question now is have we hit rock bottom?sleep.gif

  4. my early returns of Sheridan are not great. I think Mike Waufle is key here as the D line loves him and he needs to be that buffer between Sheridan and the most important part of this defense. Oddly Sheridan was the coach of what has been the weakest link the past few seasons. Anyway this is not a good start to what should be a good season in terms of distractions.

  5. Want to put a stop to the wildcat offense? Here is what I would do. As soon as the opposing reams qb lines up out wide I would put my most physical player on him and completely maul the shit out of him within the 5 yard allowance.

  6. haha well it certainly wasn't a cap adjustment- accounts i'm hearing today lead me to believe it was a FU to the fans. oh well, should make these next 2 games interesting, what with santana going 1 for 2 on plunks. sanchez is pitching today and he's not the best at hitting his target....

I read today where Cain was very concerned and planned to call Wright, so IMO thats a dead issue. If he was doing a FU to the fans thats just stupid, a profesional has to know better because all he did is add fuel to the fire of an already testy situation as far as the fans go. You hit another teams best player, the fan favorite, knock him out for 2 minutes you have to expect to get booed. Cains a young guy though so I guess its not a big deal and his posr game comments sort of help his defense.

  7. i think there was a big contingent of giant fans behind the dugout - fox mentioned that. If it makes you feel better to connect the 2, go ahead.

You know Cain isn't like that.

blu I have no idea how Cain is or is not..I just know what I saw. I also heard the announcer use the words "appears to not care". Again whatever the scenario I have no problem with, but you can see the issue. Again, no problem with what Cain did, he just has to handle that better IMO. NY fans and Met fans are like that and that was a scary scene. He is our guy, our one guy who seems to care. I for one would not have booed Cain, but place 10 beers and an already angry about the season fan there and you know the deal.

btw does any team AL or NL want to see that team in a short series? Talk about pitching and defense, that teams built for Citifield

  8. I for one have no problem with Matt Cain hitting David Wright as he did. Its an 0-2 count and it was an accident. Not intentional at all. Now we all know fans and we know Met fans particularly this year are a bit testy when it comes to injuries. Matt Cain has to know this too because tipping your cap to the crowd who was booing because thats what opposing fans do to players that plunk and lay out their best player do, intentional or not is just not cool. Makes it appear he does not care about Wright because at that point he like no one else knew the severity of the injury. Like I said no problem with the pitch, but the tip of the cap makes it seem like he could care less.

  9. his contract is as foreboding as Zito-

Rios gets $5.9 million in 2009, $9.7 million in 2010, $12 million each in 2011 and 2012 and $12.5 million apiece in 2013 and 2014.

toronto will have to eat some of that to move him. his decline this year suggests other things too.

The Wilpons feel that Bernie Madoff would be a much cheaper and more cost effective option in RF in 2010

  10. 1)anything having to do with Plaxico Burress. Have a nice life, don't drop the soap and I wish it worked out better for you and the Giants.

2)anything having to do with Antonio Pierce and Burress' stupid antics.

3)any thoughts that Pirece is not the starting MLB on opening day, barring injury.

Training camps here, these issues are dead!

  11. Think about this. Leonoard Little KILLED a woman while driving a vehicle legally drunk. He served a minimal league suspension pre the personal conduct policy and AGAIN was arrested for operrating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol a few years later. Imagine if somehow Vick were found to be an ivestor in a dog fighting ring again? Essentially thats what it would take for him to be Leonard Little.

With Vick all we can do is hope he learned his lesson. I will say this at least the man served a sentence and he did not kill a human(not that that lessens the heineous crimes he committed) like Little did and had so little regard for what he did he did it again.

  12. I think Ibanez would have been realistic had we not had the false sense of comfort in Murphy playing LF.

Him going to the Phils was a huge shift in the balance of power. We've been in a year long platoon in left while the Phillies might have the league's MVP there.

GAteB a case can be made that we have not had a legitimate run producing corner outfielder since Bernard Gilkey in 1996. When we had a catcher and 2nd basemen that put up 30 100 and 100 we could compensate for the lousy corner spots. We do not have that anymore. The neglect of the corner OF spots goes back to the Philips days, only then it was made up for elsewhere in spots that usually did not produce those numbers. I overesitimated Murphy as well, I think his lack of defense hurt him offensively if that makes sense. I know he can hit.

Bottom line is the Phillies are much better, have been for a while. Now, with our 100% healthy team minus Delgado we were 28-21 and 1.5 games ahead in the division, so I suspect we would have competed with them had things remained equal, but ultimately they are better, have been for a while.

  13. I wanted Orlando Hudson and Lowe. Even if we made those acquisitions, this team would still not be in first place, but I bet they would be at least a few games closer than 10 games back.

Hudson was not in the cards because of Omars awful signing of Castillo, who honestly has been pretty good and if all things are equal would have been a help this year. I wanted Lowe over Perez as well, but he has not been great either, certainly better than Ollie, but a case can be made that shitty Tim Redding has been better or at least as good as Ollie.

This team needed another consistent run producer to bat behind Wright and Delgado and Beltran. Bobby Abreu IMO was the obvious choice, would have taken pitches, get on base, steal bases and drive in runs. In all honesty if you told me we could have gotten Franceour like we did as a right handed bat and put Abreu in left I would be fine with that. His line drive swing may have worked well in the cavern that is CitiField.

Nonetheless the situation is very bleak. Decisons have to be made as to what this team needs to do to get better. The Carlos' are not getting any younger and with the lack of infusion of anything earth shattering from the minors one has to wonder if its time to start dealing some tradeable chips who may be on the decline when this team starts to compete again, hopefully in 2010. I must say I do like what I have seen in Niese and Parnell, so there is hope.

  14. I think its clear that this team was way too reliant of the 4some of beltran, reyes, wright and delgado. It was discussed ad naseum all off season how this team needed more than just this to compete. Some were convinced that they could survive with the Tatis', Murphys', Pagans' and Churchs' of the world, while some felt that this team needed reinforcements and that none of the aforementioned should be relied upon that much. Where you as a fan fell is irrelevant, facts are facts, they needed more.

What most Met fans should realize now is that this franchise is an absolute joke top to bottom. The Wilpons want to hide the fact they are cash strapped(not their fault), Omar is an absolute abomination as a GM aside from when it comes to outspending others and Tony Bernazard is a complete joke, both as a human being and with the minor league system he is in charge of, that of which his AA and AAA squads are a combined 70 games under .500 and have produced such little reinforcements to the big league clubs the 150 million dollar Mets employ the likes if Angel Berroa, Argenis Reyes, Cory Sullivan and Elmer Dessens.

Its a shame, but this is what our team is. Hopefully at some point they get it right, recent Wilpon history tells us no and now they have no cash to bail themselves out.

  15. I rest my case on my theory of how the 2007 collapse will be felt through this organization for years to come.

In any case, does it really matter? Same shit, different regime. Since the Wilpons have had 100% ownership the franchise has had 3 gm's and its been one embrassing mess after another. So who and what are the common denominator?

The real shame in all of this is that Bernie Madoff did not steal all the Wilpons money and force them to sell, instead we have an ownership, short on cash and even shorter on brains.

  16. .......Sir you have to decide, do you want your Mets to die now or continue this misery?

If it aint over its pretty damn close. Bye Bye Omar, thuglife and bernazard, time for a house cleaning.

  17. Although I think that Kerry Collins has carved out a very nice career, he does not have that "IT" that a real winning QB has. That "IT" cannot be explained entirely, although EA talked about it when he drafted ELI and its usually something that when you ask if a QB has "IT", it invokes a one word quick simple 'Yes' or 'NO', not much thought needed.

ELI has "IT", cannot explain "IT", dont really know what "IT" is he just has "IT".

One person whom we will never even ask if he could have had "IT" was Jesse Palmer, that much is a given.

  18. winning teams have guys like Blackburn that from time to time when called upon play well, much like a 4th outfielder who plays some when your starter is hurt, or gets some huge pinch hits they are very valuable commodities. When you call on them more than you should though, the shortcomings show. Chas is a very good backup/ST player, very valuable to a good team. I do not want him starting more than needed, simple at that.

  19. Really the bottom line is this.....take 3 All stars out of a lineup for an extended period of time, a former All star closer and a middle of the rotation guy like Maine and it does not matter what Omar does, the team is fucked.

What I will say is this, in a healthy lineup with Delgado, Beltran and Reyes and Wright with some spot starts for Sheff I like what Franceour could possibly do with that supporting cast as opposed to Church. When Franceour hit in good lineups in 06 and 07 he did drive in 100 runs.

With that said, none of this matters until the above can actually happen.
