With about 4:30 to play in the game, up 3 touchdowns, Rodgers threw a 40 yard pass to Nelson from midfield to right around the 5 yard line. It was like he was trying to get 400 yards passing. Now, I've always had a lot of respect for the Packers from the Holmgren/Favre days and it has continued into the McCarthy/Rodgers era. But that just seemed low class to me, given the score and as pathetically bad the Giants looked all game.

 

My sister and brother in law was at the house and we had the volume down low and I was like, "did they really just throw a 40 yard bomb to the goalline with that lead at the end of the game? Classy"

They did that because the Giants were calling time outs at that time like they were going to make a come back. The Packers then heaved it down field to basically put a dagger in the heart. If we are going to call time outs down 3 TDs with 4 minutes to go, they have every right to throw a bomb and put the game away.

Bradshaw had a pair hit him as well. And there was the one to Boss that went right through his hands and plugged him in the facemask.

 

So many things went wrong tonight that it is hard to blame the refs. As I have said in a number of threads now the Giants deserved to lose. But damned if the refs didn't give every close call to those fucks from the south.

 

Oh and I can't wait for the day that some defender lights up Bryant. His behavior post-play was above cockiness. Bryant is definitely the latest manifestation of the diva WR and if there is any hope to ending that plague a couple good shots to Bryant will be a good start.

Too bad the opening in his facemask wasn't a little wider or the ball would have stuck in it. That was a perfect strike by Eli.

Oh, And If I see Jacobs number called on 4th and inches just to watch him not get it one more fucking time I am going to kill gilbride. I knew that fucking play was coming all the way down here in tampa

Even though I think Jacobs should get 2 yards when he needs 1, I still think that was a horrible spot by the ref. It definitely looked like he had the ball at the marker before any part of his body hit the ground. TC won't ever challenge those again though because you never win a challenge like that.

Tynes was excellent today. Drilled every FG chance he got and put every kick off on the 5. Tyree isn't even playing football any more!!!!!!!!!!!

The main credit I give to Eli is how well the 2 minute offense runs. I assume Eli is calling the plays and running the show in that situation.

He had 9 grabs for 103 yards today. He's just so unassuming that you don't recognize when he is putting up numbers.

Steve Young was horrid. He was making uncomfortable statements followed by uncomfortable pauses and kept talking over Berman when he needed to thow it to commercial or an interview. That guy sucks. Did you see Gruden look over at Mel and roll his eyes when Young was saying that Favre proved what he wanted to prove (by not winning a super bowl).

That is the the new possible rules and the receiving team only wins about 40% of the time. Win it in regulation and if you play for OT then you take your chances.

I like the rule change. Teams definately play for FGs in OT. It's much more exciting when teams are taking shots in the endzone and this rule change would make that happen. There is no reward for a TD in OT right now. I just wish they would do it for the regular season also. Baby steps I guess.

Just make it first team to score 6. This eliminates the "cheap field goal" win but still rewards the team that scores a TD first.

Isn't this pretty much the rule change they are voting on? If a TD is scored the game is over. If the first team kicks a FG, they have to kick off. If the second team scores a TD, game over. If it's a FG the OT reverts to sudden death. That's the way I understand it.

You're fooling yourself if you think the reason we played poorly is solely Bill Sheridan. He can't rush the passer and he can't cover wide receivers.

 

Bill Sheridan will be out, but we still need some upgrades on the defense. And it starts with the linebackers and safeties.

Yes players do play, and this team had a lot of injuries. You can't deny that bad DCs make the players on the field look bad. This defense needs upgrades in the LBs and safeties, but a good DC would be able to cover some deficiencies in personnel with the scheme and Sheridan certainly does not do that. If they bring in a high energy guy, like Fox and Spags were, this D will instantly get better. Everyone got that Tim Lewis feeling once BS said he wanted to sit in the booth during the games, and he definately did his best impression of him.

Say what you will about Osi but the one glaring difference this year is Sheridan.

And players not playing well.

The same basic D personnel that Tim Lewis shit the bed with Spags won a Superbowl with and the same basic D personnel that Spags took to the playoffs with some big injuries, Sheridan allowed 4 or 5 40+ point games with. Bad DCs and players not playing well go hand in hand.

Those 3rd and 2 bombs and delay of game penalties make you want to kill somebody.

I hated that play also, but - I think that was more of a read on Eli's part than where the play was designed to go based on TCs comment after the game that that "was one option". Either way, I consider that a second TD drop on Manningham because that ball hit him in the left elbow. I don't care if a defender is jumping in front of you, a professional receiver has to make that catch. MM is terribly inconsistent. I think if MM made those catches this thread has a completely different tone. There were a ton of missed plays and mistakes on the field and those lie only with the players.

There are different rules between a ball carrier maintaining possession and a receiver making a catch. I don't agree with the rules 100%, but I believe, as did my unbiased friend watching the game with me, that it was the correct call. It didn't make much of a difference in the outcome anyway. But Hochuli's explanation that the ball was pinned against the guy's chest when his knee hit the ground was accurate. You must differentiate between that kind of possession, where in essence the Saints player is a ball carrier that has already established possession, than a receiver attempting to make a catch and establish possession.

You are right. The rules should be defined between the two, but if you listen to the clip, he says that the words "ball was moving" should be removed from replays for both fumbles and catches. I've seen many catches overturned because the ball moves a tiny little bit in the receivers hand as he is pulling it in, and half the time it's just him shifting it into his body. If a receiver catches a ball, gets hit, falls to the ground, bounces off the turf and THEN gets separated from the ball, it's not a catch because he has to maintain possession throughout. When is possession gained or lost? The refs now have to make a judgement call as to when the ball has separated enough from the carrier's hand and or body for a loss of possession.

I'm not even arguing this because of last Sunday at this point. I want to know how these things are going to be called on the field, because I like to look at the footage and decide for myself what happened. That has been made impossible by this explanation because there is no definitive rule for possession as far as I can tell.

(BTW, a 10 point deficit at half time is much different than17, not that I think the D ever would have stopped that offense in the second half anyway.)

That is a bullshit explanation. It will be interesting to see if this explanation effects catches, normally if the player does not maintain control of the ball it is incomplete, this guy basically just said that is no longer the case.

Absolutely that is bullshit because in the Bears game that night the refs ruled that a catch along the sideline was no good because it was moving. They just rephrase it to say he was "bobbling" it. I didn't even think it was a question that the guy caught the ball, but the ref saw a bobble. Bunch of crap.

Reece was the #2 guy in the front office for that draft, he had tremendous influence on the Giants draft picks...in particular, its rumored, in drafting Sin Moss.

That's fine, but it certainly seems that JR gets all the credit for the picks taken while he has been the GM. The GM has the final say on who is drafted as far as I can tell. I understand that they are heavily influenced by the scouts, but in the end it's the GMs final decision right?

Either way, I've been holding out hope for Moss as I think I've seen flashes of a good receiver from him, but I'm finally done. I may be the last man jumping off the wagon, but holy shit. I'm not sure I've seen a player with such little football smarts continue to keep his job. He just looked aweful yesterday. He is constantly second guessing the running lane he chose. Always looking for the cut back lane rather than making the decision, and hitting the whole as hard as possible. That's what Hixon does, and that's why he is a great return man.

I hear ya. My personal rule of thumb is who ever is at the top gets the credit or the blame. JR has had great drafts and I'm sure he had a ton of input with EA, but he doesn't get credit for anything before he was actually GM in my book.

The only thing that makes me skeptical about that picture is that Eli's signature looks a little blurry and the writing underneath looks very clear. He is pretty funny, so he might have done it, but I don't really think he did. I think it's a sham.
