  1. I think he's grown a lot. He came to grips with his mental and emotional problems and got the help he needed....and he talked about it openly. I respected that a great deal. I also think last year's Jet locker room was a disaster, with malcontents and guys who checked out when things went bad. Marshall tried to show fight and leadership and it blew up in his face. My guess is, he'd be fine in the Giant environment. And with a cap friendly deal, you could still address other needs. Fair point that he's probably a two year solution but then again, that's about what we're counting on for Eli, too, right? Yes, we must upgrade the OL, so Eli can throw without somebody in his grill all the time but Brandon Marshall would give Eli and the passing game a huge, dare I even say dramatic, upgrade.

  2. Heard on NFL radio the Giants hope to work out a long term deal for less than the $16.5M he'd get on the tag deal......but it isn't going to be much less. Supposedly, there are other teams lurking. Jags (and TC) have $71M to spend and DE is one of their most glaring needs.

  3. Tough call on JPP. The guy is still a force, absolutely dominating a few games and he makes Vernon even more dangerous on the other side. But with Okwara and Odiggy showing a lot of potential, you don't go $15+M per year for four or five years. If you can get him closer to $10M, I think I'd do it.

  4. This from Rotoworld.....

NFL Network's Mike Garafolo reports the Giants will "make a legitimate run" at impending free agent DE Jason Pierre-Paul "in the coming days and weeks."

"They will try and get a deal done before he can potentially hit the free agent market," Garafolo continued. The Giants created $10 million in cap space by cutting Victor Cruz and Rashad Jennings on Monday, and they can create even more by getting rid of J.T. Thomas and Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie. The Giants have already invested a significant chunk of cap space in a defensive line which boasts big-money free agents Olivier Vernon and Damon Harrison, but they should have the money to re-sign JPP if they so choose.

  5. Root Pats? You gotta be kidding. Pats are right up there with the Cowboys, a little ahead of the Jets, for teams that could NEVER lose enough or feel enough pain to suit me. Plus, it's the whole NFC/AFC thing. Go Falcons!

  6. Consider OBJ's workload, too. He's on the field for almost every offensive play. No matter how well conditioned he is, that will take a toll....and when you're fatigued, injury risk increases. And injury possibilities aside, you want him as fresh as possible when he goes out to his WR position. Once in a while, picking spots for him to return is fine. Making him the full time return guy could be a case of diminishing returns.

  7.

Doesn't sound like it's going to happen willingly, unfortunately. It will take a midseason shake-up from the higher-ups to strip him of playcalling duties. By then, it will be too late. I'm willing to give it another shot with some more offensive talent but at what point will we have to say that we have to get the job done with the guys provided? We pay these coaches to gameplan to mask weaknesses and Mcadoo, thus far, hasn't really been able to do it...

Heard much the same thing about Spags and the defense last year. Amazing how much smarter he got this year, with an infusion of talent. Not saying some of the complaints about McAdoo's offense are without merit but getting upgrades at the positions we've been talking about all year - OL, TE, a blocking FB and another outside WR - would make him look a lot smarter, too. For my money, OL is #1 priority. Pugh and Richburg are fine. All the other spots along the OL, including TE, need some new blood in camp come July.

  8. If the fan can predict the play, what do you think the defenses who study this shit daily can do? I've said it before, McAdoo was/is expected to bring that Green Bay playbook to New York. Watch Green Bay...just fucking watch them. There are play designs that specifically get a WR wide open. Sometimes its for 5 yards, other times 15. Doesn't matter. Whether it's setting a pick to get their WRs running free or whether it's just knowledge of the defensive lineup...it's just crazy to see how Rodgers has guys finding the open spots in a defense all game, regardless of who they're going up against. THAT was the excitement behind the McAdoo hiring. To date, though, it hasn't shown up. The actual plays don't look a whole lot different than what we've seen from the Giants dating back pre-McAdoo. There absolutely needs to be some originality, some creativity, something defenses haven't seen before brought to the table.

Ordinarily, I'd give McAdoo another year to get his offensive head out of his offensive ass...but given we overachieved this year, I'll give him two more years. By that point, Eli will essentially be done or damn near done. Beckham will be at or damn near at the end of his rookie contract looking for big money...point being, if we don't improve, there's a logical break there for a new coach to step in.

Are those the plays where Rodgers has 8, 9 and 10 seconds back there? But again, we're talking play design as opposed to play calling. There's a difference.

  9. Well, that's unfortunate because they've invested a lot of resources to those guys.

I don't really understand what you guys want to happen. I guess we could just keep tossing high draft picks at the offensive line...but then our defense will eventually wane. Wait a second...

The line is league average and serviceable. However, Mcadoo did nothing with the design of the offense to mitigate the pressure or lack of run game. Not sure why our run offense revolved around sending our backs up the ass of the nearest lineman instead of maybe running off tackle, pulling guards, counters, etc.

    No.

  10. Maybe I'm splitting hairs here but I don't think it's the play calling as much as the play designs. Opposing defenses, I believe, were getting tipped off to what was being run by personnel groupings, formations and down and distance...and especially on running plays, as the article mentions. That's why SO many of our runs were buried before they got started. Also think the route trees our receivers ran were pedestrian and yes, vanilla. It's harder to beat your man in any assignment - blocking, running a route, whatever - if he has a pretty good idea, presnap, what you're doing.

Of course, a subpar OL will limit how "creative" you can get. Let's not forget that factor.

  11. In the last few years, Reese has drafted OBJ, traded up to draft Collins and stole Free Agent DRC out from under the Jets nose and signed FA's Jenkins, Vernon and Snacks this year....and every one of them is All Pro. Add to that the drafting of Shephard, Goodson and Perkins this year and you'd have to say he's had a pretty good run....just when many were calling for his scalp.

  12. Having three stud CBs is amazing. Won't last though, enjoy it while you can!

We have DRC under contract for two more years. He's a UFA in 2019, when he's 32 years old. Jackrabbit has another four years and will be a UFA in 2021, when he's 32. Apple's rookie contract runs another 3 years, with a 4th year club option....when he'll be 24. Better save some cap space for that contract! But for the next two years, sit back and enjoy having three stud DBs, when the rest of the league struggles to find two, or even one in some cases.
