jranieli Posted August 2, 2006 Share Posted August 2, 2006 link The New York Mets today recalled lefthanded pitcher Royce Ring from Norfolk (AAA) of the International League and optioned righthanded pitcher Mike Pelfrey to the Tides. Ring will wear uniform #43 and will be available for tonight's game at Florida. Ring, 25, was 2-1 with 10 saves and a 2.97 ERA in 34 games for Norfolk. In 36.1 innings, he allowed 28 hits, 13 runs, 12 earned, with 15 walks and 37 strikeouts. Opponents were batting .212 against him. Royce compiled a Tides franchise record with a 26.2 scoreless innings streak from April 19th-July 8th. During that stretch he went 2-0, was eight-for-eight in save opportunities, allowing eight hits, while issuing 11 walks and fanning 28. The 6-0, 220-pounder was also named to the Triple-A All-Star Game and pitched a scoreless inning on July 12th at Toledo, OH. Ring was 0-2 with a 5.06 ERA in 15 games for New York in 2005. In 10.2 innings, he yielded 10 hits, six runs, earned, with 10 walks and eight strikeouts. Pelfrey, 22, went 2-1 with a 5.48 ERA in four starts with the Mets. In 21.1 innings, he surrendered 25 hits, 14 runs, 13 earned, with 12 walks and 13 strikeouts. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
