Former Broncos defensive tackle Marcus Thomas to visit Giants, report says

The Giants' search for help at defensive tackle apparently didn't stop with the signings of Carlton Powell and Oren Wilson.

The team will host former Denver Broncos lineman Marcus Thomas on Thursday, according to ESPN's Josina Anderson.

Thomas (6-3, 316 pounds) was a fourth-round pick for Denver in 2007. He has 34 career starts in five seasons, including 11 in 2011, but struggled in the 3-4 scheme under Josh McDaniels' staff before rebounding a bit in John Fox's 4-3 defense. Still, the Broncos were only interested in retaining him on a one-year deal this offseason. Thomas resisted and tried to find a more lucrative contract elsewhere.

Thomas is a better fit in the 4-3 and, in fact, there was rumblings two years ago he was trying to maneuver his way out of Denver. One of the teams that intrigued him was the Giants. Perhaps he'll finally get his wish.

As for what this means in regard to Marvin Austin, there is still no official word on what tests revealed about his back issues. Again, the initial belief and hope was he wasn't battling any major, debilitating injuries and would be back to work shortly. We'll get more definitive news on Thursday when the team returns to practice in East Rutherford.
